  1. Sort of on the same topic; there are a few caches within 10 miles of my house that have been disabled for at least 6 months with no attempts by the owners to replace, repair, or update them. I was just wondering how long is a reasonable time that these should sit disabled before asking they be archived?
  2. My newest cache, The World's Lamest Micro, still has not been found. And no, it's not hidden in Nashville. OK, now that I got those "three words" into my post, I'm safe for 30 days! Happy holidays!!
  3. I like having parking info also, especially for caches that are located near businesses. There are several caches in my area that have parking coords at businesses that were placed with the business owner's permission. One thing I would like to see is the first name of the person who gave permission for the cache just in case someone from that business comes out to ask what you're doing there. You could then tell them that "Dave gave so and so permission to geocache here."
  4. I discovered this one listed about a month ago and decided that's where my newest TB is headed. Impossible? Maybe, but it woud be way too cool to actually have my TB get there. I am going to do this virtual someday before I leave this world!
  5. His log states: He didn't find it, period. I would change or ask that it be changed to a DNF and leave it at that.
  6. Maybe if someone left real honest constructive criticism regarding the lameness of a cache in their log instead of the common TNLN or TFTC, maybe, just maybe the cache owner would try to improve his/her hide and it would improve the quality of their next hide. Granted, some might take offense to comments meant to improve the quality of their caches, but it might help too. Then again, some probably don't know any better when hiding a lame cache because they only have their previous lame finds to use as an example of how to hide a new cache.
  7. Only once. The hiders archived the cache within hours of my finding it then moved it to a new location and renamed it. I had just placed my first TB in that cache. All ended well. I eventually found the new cache hide but it would have been fun to be FTF on the new one.
  8. All the caches 'round here are the same. Every one of them is just so lame. I don't mean to nag. But I hate the cheap swag. So I just might get out of the game!
  9. The only place I ever saw one of these was in South Africa. A cool idea. Actually there are some real palm trees that the city of Mishawaka, Indiana has planted along the street near one of the busy retail centers. They are supposed to be dug up in the fall and taken to a warmer area, but last I checked they are still there. Maybe they are fake!
  10. Mine: The Andromeda Galaxy So far only one person has done the virtual part.
  11. You could always make a "nail" out of a small wooden dowel and pound it into a natural hole already in the tree. Not sure if this would be acceptable?
  12. That's easy. My newest cache The World's Lamest Micro
  13. Mine too. We need to celebrate. I turned 40 the day geocaching was born. Woo hoo!
  14. Somebody's Worthless Awful Garbage
  15. Something must be wrong with me, I'm not addicted to caching (yet).
  16. I'm the biggest tightwad around these parts. I too, don't like paying to get into a park just to geocache, so I usually wait till I have a reason to go to the park (maybe a picnic or camping, etc) before paying to get in. It cost me $4 to get into a local state park here where 7 caches were hidden. I went for a picnic but decided to look for a few of the caches. It took me all day to find them (ended up doing all 7) and by the time I got done I realized that I had so much fun I forgot about the money. So don't do them unless you're planning to be there anyway. Of course, you could sneak in (just kidding!!)
  17. With the severe geomagnetic storminess of the last few days, how has or has your reception been affected? The K index is still at 6 as of 1500 UTC on the 9th (today) and it looks like there is still a good chance for this to continue for the next few days. I have not had my GPS on in a few days. Any thoughts?
  18. Cool! May 3, 2000 was my 40th birthday! Now I can celebrate two things on that day.
  19. Check out http://www.getagps.com. I bought the MapSend Topo for the USA for about $54 plus am getting a $20 rebate. The maps look good on my SportTrack Map.
  20. I too am looking forward to Four More Years of geocaching. I like looking for all that neat stuff that people like to Putin their caches!
  21. I would rather find a well-placed, cleverly hidden micro than just another tupperware container, empty peanut butter jar, or whatever gets used, filled with junk. To each his own. If you don't like doing micros, don't. If you like regular caches, do them. If you like both, do both. Micros, as well as regular sized are here to stay.
  22. Hopefully the upcoming article in Parade Magazine will put Geocaching in a good light and introduce more people to the fun. I saw the CNN piece and thought it did an overall good job.
  23. The first cache I found was a micro with a tiny logbook and not much room to sign. I had never thought of what to use for my handle so I decided to use my amateur radio callsign since it is unique to me and reflects one of my other hobbies and is easy to write in small logbooks. I'd thought of changing it at times but with almost 90 logs it wouldn't make sense at this point.
  24. Bought my GPS in April; only because I thought it would be a neat toy to have. I had no real use for it other than another high-tech gadget to play with. I saw the word "geocaching" in the user's manual and decided to type the word into Google. Of course it took me to the geocaching.com web site. At first I thought about trying to find benchmarks cuz they have always intrigued me but started reading about geocaching and noticed that there was one hidden very close to my workplace. Found it the next day and was hooked instantly. I'm not sure what the coming Winter will bring in terms of my caching activity, but I'm sure by Spring there will be many more new ones hidden around here. It will also be interesting to see what this "game" will evolve into in the coming years.
  25. Just curious. What is the smallest micro you have found? What is the smallest micro known? Is there a lower size limit to micros that would be approved? The smallest I have found so far is about the size of a postage stamp hidden in one of those "Listerine" breath strips containers (I think that's what it was).
