  1. Now that I figured out the correct coordinates, and have had them verified by the cache owner, I can share their way of determining zip code coordinates. He did like the method I used to learn the information. Surprisingly enough it is all on the GC.com site. Step 1- From My Geocaching home page, click on update home coordinates. Step 2- Put in zip code and click locate. Do not save these coordinates as your home coordinates, just write them down. Thanks to all who assisted me in my efforts. Enjoy
  2. I was thinking more like they'd run out and sign the log for them .... After spending a lot of time and money driving around and trying to do this the hard way, I thought I would ask if there was an easier way. Not that you deserve it, but I drove out there (24 miles one way) and took coordinates at the Post office, we did the math computation and looked for the cache with no luck (middle of a river with no boat). Then I looked at the map it, saw where the crosshairs were centered, drove back out and took another reading, that didn't work either. So for those counting, that is over 100 miles driving, and probably 3 hours of head scratching over 2 days, before I asked for assistance. So NO I don't want it on a Silver Platter, and NO I don't want someone to sign for me. I want to learn and help my daughter learn how to use her GPS and have fun spending time on something we both enjoy doing. Thanks Again
  3. Basically, I input the GC coordinates and drive until I am close, then we get out and walk until we get within 100 feet, and start searching. The only coordinates we ever used were the ones posted on the cache page. I saw the UTM listed below the main coordinates, but since we could always find the cache with the other coordinates, I didn't explore further. I have been told by other cachers, that they sometimes cache without a GPS, using Google Map or something like it. Now I think I understand how they found them. I will know better when I test it out and see if I can pinpoint one of my caches from a satellite view. Most things we learn as we need them. I learned something new today. Thanks
  4. Thanks to those who have tried to teach me the difference between different coordinate systems. I think I now know where to find 4 different methods for plotting coordinates. That coordinate conversion link did give me the answer, but it also showed me there were more ways than I previously thought to use coordinates. Maybe now I can use some of the mapping tools. I never understood why the coordinates I put in didn't match up with what I should be seeing on the map. Now I know. Now, when my 9 yr old gets home, I can guide her through the process of coordinate conversion and we can begin to solve the puzzle. Thanks again for your guidance.
  5. Which brings up another question Those coordinates don't look anything like the ones I put in my GPS. I found these coords in the address bar. lat=43.8103&lon=-76.0236 I have seen somewhere that you can convert coordinates, but I don't know where, or what the GC.com coordinates are called and what the mapping coordinates are called.
  6. Where can I find how to determine the actual search coordinates used when you do a search by zipcode? Yes, I am working on a Puzzle Cache, and No I don't want you to give me the answer to the puzzle. I do want to know how I can solve the puzzle myself, but I don't know where to start looking. When I search by the zip code, it only shows the zip code at the top of the page. I assumed it was the coordinates for the Post Office, but I am told that is incorrect. When I do a search for caches from my home, it shows the coords, probably because I entered them a long time ago. The owner gave me a hint that I could reach it from the GC.com homepage, but I have clicked everything I thought might lead me to this solution and now I am in the forums asking for a class on Zip Code Coordinates. Any one know how to do this? Thanks
  7. Thanks Eartha I tried to log that I had the TB, without the jeep, and it came up no match. So I am going to assume that the tag belongs to the other owner. I will grab it from the last holder and drop it off. I wonder where Jarrett went? The same person who picked up this tag, was at both caches, and no WJ in either. You can close this one now.
  8. I am using the 6 digit number on the TB dogtag. I don't remember any code starting with JP when I logged the WJ before. Who would know if there was a duplicate tag issued? This tag does not say copy, and I know the WJTB last year was not a copy tag.
  9. I have been watching WJTB Jarrett since I received it at a WJTB event last year. I recently discovered that the jeep had gone missing, but the tag was still circulating. I retrieved the tag from the current holder and said I would try and find a White Jeep to reattach to the tag and keep it going. Today I did a TB search of the number, and it came up with someone else's name as the owner of the tag. I went to the WJTB Jarrett page, and posted a note, using the same number, it worked there also. I want to keep the WJTB going, but could this number have been issued to more than one TB dog tag? It appears to be a new release by the 2nd (?) owner, and over a year since Jarrett was released. Any suggestions??

    Replacing Tb

I have a TB, Papa Bear James V, that went missing last year in Indiana when a cache was muggled. Today, I found an identical bear in a cache. I want to use the copy tag to send him back out. How do I do this without messing up mileage? (not a big deal, just wondering) Do I have to rename the TB? Do I just attach the copy tag, and claim it from an unknown location and drop it in a cache? Thanks
  11. Got mine. Can't wait for the next coins.
  12. Is there a list of names of who is on the show, or do we actually have to watch the show?
  13. Mine is all fixed now. Thanks for all your efforts.
  14. Same problem. Paid for all my coins, some are still seeking, some are marked paid.
  15. I didn't get an e-mail yet, I just happened to log on and look at the forums. Otherwise I would have missed out.
  16. I agree with some kind of limit. I had originally asked for 6 sets of each coin. 2 for my collection, 4 for gifts and caches. I was only able to get 3 of each LE, at the last moment (by the looks of it) so I only got 3 of the regulars to keep the sets equal. I will have to think about getting more for caches. But if the code goes to everyone that ordered this time around, the person who ordered a lot will get the same code.
  17. Nice Coin I hope I got some of each. If I didn't, can I? I know I ordered some, just not sure which ones.
  18. I got South Carolina last week. The rest, I can't help you.
  19. First things first. This is my 100th post Nearly 2 years, and only 100 posts. I guess I don't have much to say after all. Thanks for your help. I have a sheet that has Coin Name, Coin Number, Trackable (yes/no), Track at, and Icon columns. All 74 of my coins are listed, 46 are GC.com trackable. The coins are in 2 books. They are placed, so you can see both sides of the coin by turning pages, so there should be no need to handle them. I will probably bring one book to this event. That way you would have to meet me at another event and get the next set. Of course if you come to my event in October (you know who you are ), you could log the whole set.
  20. I am taking my coins to their first event. I know I can easily drop all of them into the cache, but it looks like I have to pick them all up individually? Is there a way to pick them all back up at once, or maybe in groups to reduce logs? I have about 50 coins. I may have to take a partial set to the event if I don't see an easier way. Also: To log the coin, they will have to see the coin, copy the number, and then log it out of the cache. Then the next person grabs it from them, and so on until I reclaim them after (I am thinking) 2 weeks, to allow everyone the opportunity to log their find. I have heard that making a sheet for them to take home, is generally appreciated, but (IMO), you wouldn't necessarily have to see any coins, you would just have to get the sheets. So I am opting (this time) for them to look at those tiny numbers. Then I know they actually saw the coin. Any other constructive suggestions from coin owners, or loggers to improve my thinking? Thanks
  21. Another set I gotta have. At least 3 combo sets.
  22. I got 2 of 5 coins. None were attached to the card, and the whole end of the envelope was missing. The Post Office was nice enough to put the envelope in a bag and send their apologies for damaging the package. As others, I sent an e-mail to the sender. Looks like I will have to be more careful when sending out coins to others.
  23. Ordered mine with the combo option. Worked well. Thanks
  24. I could use them by placing a different coin in 20 different caches. Either my own as an incentive to be FTF or to restart interest after it has been in service, or I could put some in those memorable caches I find from other hiders. Then the challenge would be for you to get a complete set by following me around to those great caches or being first to mine. Of course I would have to set up a lot more caches. Just an idea. I already drop coins in memorable caches. Most I have activated, but a few were just dropped for trade purpose and thanks for the memories.
  25. I would love to buy 5 of each (at least). 1 for my collection, 1 for my daughters, and 3 (at least) to caches. Edit Make that 6, my brother-in-law is a big Civil War enthusiast. I can give them as presents.
