  1. I just bowed to the inevitable and got the PCMobile reradiator. It acquires satellites much faster than the builtin antenna on my Legend and also brings in a few more as well.
  2. And in San Diego of all places.
  3. Gee, I bought myself a tee shirt for the entity's birtday. Thanks prefect!
  4. Geocaching Handbook Falcon Guide Ser. by Layne Cameron is pretty good and you can get it at Borders for 10.95 +.
  5. Muggles are geocachers who have not yet personified their real identity.
  6. I like it. I am totally without any artistic capabilities but I also like the retro idea.
  7. You might also want to read the previos cachers finds and look at the hint. This has helped me immensely.
  8. I must admit to becoming sarcastic at times and being a little too quick to answer what I percieve as a personal attack. I enjoy the forums and the semi freedom we have to place our ideas and opinions out where a diverse group can see them. Coming from a strongly agressive and combative background it is sometimes hard to deal with the enertia and " act nice. " But I am trying my best and I also wish to apologize to those I have flamed and the innocent bystanders.
  9. I disagree. It is certainly true that there is a comparitively high mortality rate among infants, but there is also a high death rate among teenagers and young adults. The mortality rate is fairly low during the childhood years, and then rises sharply in the teenage and early adult years. It's not infancy that you need to survive--it's early adulthood. I'm afraid the bad news doesn't end there, however. The mortality rate rises very steadily throughout middle age. the rate among those in their late forties is about three and a half times the rate for those in their early thirties. And from early forties to early fifties, the rate doubles (that's you, Auntie). You are seven times more likely to die in your late fifties than you were in your early thirties. I did not look for statistics correlating mortality to obesity--reading them might give me a heart attack! Statistics are from the CDC web site. Can you also state the confidence levels that these numbers exist at, the three sigma levels and the populations they were taken from? As a statistical process control person and a sixsigma certified professional I am very certain that statistics alone are rather useless unless you can truly reject the null hypothesis at each level of constellation. As an example, I am 5'9'' and 203 pounds and I have a floating body fat weight of approximately 10 pounds. Statistically I am obese. According to the US Army percentage of fat to muscle mass I am just fine. We can choose how far into fantasy land we wish to venture but luring others either willfully or wantonly is not nice.
  10. When I right click I don't get that on the popup menu.
  11. "I need to eat excessively to even keep at a healthy weight." WHAT?!!??!! Is it flaming to say that I HATE you? I can't run 3.1k in 23 hours much less minutes. . .I want that kind of metabolism. . .if I walk by a Krispy Cream I gain weight from the calories in the air. UGH! but I am still cute. . .no self esteem issues here. . .ROFLMBO! Just take good care of those ankles and knees all you runners. Personally I would rather be a little bit fat and still able to perambulate.
  12. As a native Californian from San Diego I would say it is not a great idea to take a vehicle into Mexico because if you get into even a fender bender odds are that your vehicle will be impounded. If you just want to check out Brownsville or Tijuana the bus is a good idea. You also will get through Customs a lot easier. With the Patriot Act you can be detained for quite a while and any disassembly of your stuff is on you.
  13. you can attach an antenna to the legend?!? Yes and no. You cannot DIRECTLY use an external antenna with an etrex, but they wsell reradiating antennas that receive a signal and retransmit it at low power (signal only goes a few feet) so you can hold the GPSr any which way and get good accuracy. I attach the reradiating loop to the front of the Legend with a rubber band. It also lets the GPSr acquire more satellites a heckofa lot faster. Sometimes I put the magnetic back antenna/sensor on my hat. No problems with muggles then.
  14. I use T-Mobile and it works at lots of hotels, some book stores and, more importantly, Starbucks.
  15. Speaking as a SixSigma guy I think we need to run a Cusum chart on this.
  16. Same thing with Digital Fish.
  17. I use the Rayovac 15 minute NIMH and they work fine. I personally don't think there is any real difference other than how long the cell will last under load.
  18. Amazing what a little research reveals.
  19. In my pocket when walking and in my hand when approaching a cache. Since I use an Etrex Legend it has to be parallel to the ground and face up if the internal antenna is being used. When I use the reradiating antenna I can carry it any old way I please.
  20. Try going in from a forum subscription. It works for me. OOPS! No it doesn't.
