  1. Yes, of course, but it is only 3 feet radial error. i.e. you can only be a maximum of 3 feet from the actual position as they are 6 feet apart. The GPS does, however, record waypoints using a higher accuracy method. I beleiev the Garmin units record in DD.DDDDD format which gets you to around 3.6' between points or 1.8' worst case error. Not "to put too fine a point on it" this is truncation error not rounding error. Truncation error results in a loss of the entire digit (6 feet) rounding error results in the loss of 1/2 a digit (3 feet). I guess this means that your are at most 6 feet away in longitude and 6 feet in latitude. I don't think it's possible to get any more digits from Geocaching.com for waypoints, right?
  2. A note about accuracy: I did the math and found that, at the equator, the resolution of 1/1000th of a minute that you can enter for longitude and latitude results in a truncation error of almost exactly 6 feet. That's the best you can do with the DD MM.MMM format. You only have so many decimals. So your minimum error to start with is 6 feet East/West and 6 feet North/South. Here's the calculation: 25,000 mi x 5280 ft/mi / (360 deg) / (60 min/deg) / (1000 parts/min) = 6.111 feet Now, the farther north or south you are from the equator the smaller the truncation error is for longitude. For example at 45 degrees north the truncation error is: cos(45 deg) x (equator value from above: 6.111)= 4.321 feet At the poles it's zero. Note: the latitude error is always about 6 feet - it does not dimish as either latitude or longitude change.
  3. I have a CS with firmware version 4.1. When I hold down the enter at start I get the test page. How do I reset the unit? Thanks
  4. It would be far harder but we don't want to make it that hard! Vinny actually mentioned today that it would be even more extreme if he had attached the cache to the top of the pylon, so you had to get up there to sign it. Sue Vinny & Sue Team Then he would of had to find another way to place it
  5. I'm looking into buying a used palm for paperless caching off of ebay. The problem is there are hundreds for sale. I would like a color display. I would also like to pay less than $60 for it. What's the best unit to bid on? I've seen a few Palm Tungstens that look nice. Is that more Palm than I need? Thanks in advance.
  6. It's not a hoax. The cache is there. Also I know how he placed it. The cache will be logged shortly in a lot easier way than it was placed. El Diablo Well, it's obvious from his hints how HE did it. It's so obvious I won't even mention it. The real questions is can anybody else do it? Either his way or some other way. Vinny, can someone place anchors in the side of the pylons? Either driven in or via wedges or cams?
  7. PM sent. I am willing to make the climb, I just do not have enough climbing gear to make the climb. There is no need to climb. No need for RC aircraft, or real aircraft. All you need are a few simple items along with a boat. I do have one question though.....if this cache hits the water will it float? El Diablo I don't think it will with those weights attached. They are there to keep the cache from blowing off the pylon.
  8. Really - I though maybe I was the only one there in the last 30 years (since the interchange was built). Were you up to no good?
  9. Here is the path to the original location (Google Earth image) - The cache has been moved so any covert attempts to find it will be in vain The path runs along the river trail under the northbound lanes of I-95, then up between the lanes of I-95. Then under the Route 32 bridge adjacent to I-95 south. This is the only way in without crossing or stopping on any of the roadways. For some reason (intentional or not) the areas just adjacent to the interchange are heavily overgrown with very thick brush. It keeps people and animals from wandering onto the interchange. The thorns were so bad that I was scratched though my jeans. Any path that I was able to find through the brush was only 2 feet tall, basically a game trail. There were a number of deer in the areas just outside the oval center. I didn't get very far into the center but I suspect there are deer in there also. This was a Difficulty 3/Terrain 4 cache. I think the new location will be a 3/3 or less.
  10. I think that shift of responsibility is important. When you go out to look for a cache (or to do anything), you are responsible for your actions. Certainly, if I hide an urban micro, I should not have to put a note on the cache page explaining that double parking or jaywalking is illegal. For the record. I supplied a parking waypoint which would have been a big hint as to where to start. I also described the full path to the cache in the hint. I wanted cachers to have the option of figuring it out themselves. If they got stuck (figuratively and/or literally) they could use the hint to get them to the cache.
  11. Update: Cache placement was not approved. Two reasons were given - the first was that the cache was too close to the bridge - a potential terrorist target - there's a rule against that. I knew this might be a problem but I didn't know how close was too close - still don't. I could still have moved the cache closer to the center of the interchange - with a lot of effort the, brush was incredibly thick. However the second reason the cache was rejected is that the land is not "public" property - probaly owned by the highway administration. Basically I can't locate it inside the interchange. I am in the process of moving the cache outside the highway land in the park next to the interchange. Not as clean as I would have liked. Also the new area is a lot more open - no real bushwacking - off trail but no thorns. I'll post a path to the original location later.
  12. Yeah - I have a similar image of the real Wyatt - I just thought Val played an incredible Doc in Tombstone.
  13. Very good. Your paying attention. I just couldn't put up "The Computer That Wore Tennis Shoes" as Wyatt.
  14. Like there's really a guy named BrainSnot! Please read the Forum Guidelines on respect. No disrespect intended, at all. When I first read the post that's what I thought his handle was - just thought it was funny that I missread it - I guess I was too subtle.
  15. Wyatt, don't let a bit of bushwhacking run you off. Go deep! Post script: Ain't that a picture of Val Kilmer playing Doc Holliday in your avatar? Bushwacking is one thing, brush clearing a path is another. Yes that's Val doing Doc. I just can't put up the guy from "The Computer that Wore Tennis Shoes" as Wyatt. Wyatt, I am rolling. Hey I refrained from any comments about bushwacking and going deep I know this is a family forum!

  18. X marks the sopt The "X" is where I had to put it. Where I wanted to put it was dead center. The brush was way to thick to get any closer.
  19. I agree. The hint describes the route to the cache via a county park. I really would like to get it closer to the center of the intercahnge - for symetry.
  20. [stirring of the pot]Please tell me this is not a micro.[/stirring of the pot] No, it's an ammo can in plain sight.
  21. Because it's a unique location. And it's a bear to get to. So you are saying that DOT did give permission for this hide, or were you answer the question above about why it is an interesting hide. [stirring of the pot]Please tell me this is not a micro.[/stirring of the pot] Wrong post. I did not ask permission
  22. Replied to the wrong post Because it's a unique location. And it's a bear to get to.

  24. There is one way in without crossing any roads - that's the beauty of this cache.
