  1. As the poster states GARMIN use a proprietary software Maps to download to a GPSr. NO other software but GARMIN will work on you Etrex. Mapsource is just the software to load maps and transfer them to your GPSr it is FREE but the MAPS are NOT free. I would look for a used version of MapSource, which comes with the maps, for not to much. cheers
  2. It is only a game so does it really matter????? I have lots of folks post found it after the 4 or 5th visit did they log a DNF, NO. One group was logging DNFs saying the cache(s) were not there when it was just it was a hard cache to reconize. Only if an experianced cacher seems to have a problem will I do any thing and even then it depends upon the cache. cheers
  3. If someone puts a cache in a really public area then just "dadgum the torpedoes" and find the cache that is the final conclusion I have come to. If you want a cache in the middle of Grand Central station then I'll find it. Besides a memeory charm always works. cheers
  4. I know you can send gpx/loc waypoints from a PC but is there a program that will allow you to do it from a PDA. It would beat carrying a Laptop on a trip. I have a IPAQ 3850 and a Dell X5 and a GPSMAP76 and Foretrex 101 GPS. Both the GPS use a serial connection. I would really like to hear from folks that have done. cheers
  5. Come to the meeting just had on on the 10th next one is in Sept. cheers
  6. I had the first stage of one of my cache, a film cannister burried under 10 feet of dirt by a road crew. I guess it just upped the difficulity factor, LOL. cheers
  7. A friend gave me a list of cache on a trip I was going to take. I had dome spot gpx files along the route but it seemed every cache I stoped to do I did not have any info on. Need to say it was a blast to hunt a cache with no info. But one was a multi so that was a pain as I didn't know what it was and thought it was a virtual. Any was it can be done. cheers
  8. Not unless you place it some place there is NO topo map for that area or a very inaccurate map. But NO. cheers
  9. It is NOT a cache in any sense of the way as already stated. The only option you might have is to put the Lat coords on one and the Long coords on the othen and then put a cache out that the by using the two you could go find. But you might not get nay hits if one is in the US and the other in Europe. cheers
  10. I agree. Also you have to understand GC.com is NOT a regulatory agancy for geocaching. They have some guidelinees that they adhere to but I do not think they should or want to say what you can and can't do as far as when you can hide a cache. You also don't know if a cache is being hidden by a person(s) using an alternate account or by an experianced cacher helping his spouse/children etc.... hid a cache. I have seen experanced cachers make LAME caches so NO you should not rugulate when you can hide a cache. cheers
  11. how much is shipping to colorado 80005 I'll take it if it is not to much or shipping is free.
  12. I am not abosutely sure but I think you need the Mapsourse not City Select as if I am correct the Vista is a NON routing GPSr and City Select is ment primarly for Autorouting GPSr. I have a GPSMAP76 and a 1620 Que GPSR and the City select would not work with the nonrouting GPSMAP76. Just my thought. cheers
  13. From your home corrdinates to the central point of that zipcode. It is a straight line NOT any road milage etc.....
  14. I would NOT rely on tupperware or even an ammobox being water PROOF. If you really want to do use a nalgen bottle or if your independently rich a pelican box but NOT tupperware or ammobox etc..... There are underwater caches I have dove on one in Colorado, the ammobox was full of water. So think about what you want for a container. cheers
  15. It isn't the GPSr that is running you in circle but your understanding of using the GPSr. I would bet that no matter what GHSr you have your do the same thing. They all do basically the same thing and have the same accuracery etc... but it is most likely your misunderstanding that is causing you to run in circles. Thought I know satellite configuration can casue problems but it is not the GPSr but the whole GPS system so no matter what GPSr you have there will be inaccuraceries. I would suggest you evaluate you hunting methodlolgy. cheers
  16. I personally have NEVER bitten the head off of a chicken so I guess I am a nerd and not a geek. Boy you all are a strange lot. But eating chicken heads uck.... cheers
  17. Some tiems you got to think out side of the box. Where to look some caches are clever others are just well a pain. A micro in a stick in a pile of stick is just a pain. But a clever camo is a good thing when you can stare at it and still not see it that is a good job, and evil. cheers
  18. It is amazing how many poeple post that are no help at all, I have a Palm so cant help you UGH. Anyway I have a IPAQ 3850 and a Dell Axim X5 that had Win2002 on it and it would NOT run latest version of GPSSonar, I thought I read that GPXSonar only ran on Win2003. I upgraded the 3850 to Win 2003 and it ran GPXSonar but the Axim would not as it had Win2002 on it. Now I have upgraded the Axim to Win2003 and GPXSonar runs fine. I did use GPSView on the Axim and it works fine with Win2002. SO maybe you need to trie GPSView I actually kind of liked it better at one time. cheers
  19. Yes, but do you think all cache FINDS are logged?? Obviously, I'm referring to online logs. Only a small minority of us refuse to log DNFs. LOL well I guess folks are differant in your neck of the woods. It is very typically to not log a DNF here. I get lots of log with "it took 4 tries to find this one", but NOT one DNF was posted. So I guess it is still IMPOSSIBLE to tell. cheers
  20. your never know as not all DNFs are logged. So it is like asking how long is a piece of string? cheers
  21. and you assume it is a geocache why?????
  22. Dive Master and Certified Cave diver. Yes there are underwater caches. I have done on that is in an airplane in Colorado. There is one other I know of at some dam, not sure where. But there are a few. cheers
  23. When you do a login to Groundspeak and you put your cursor over the login name a dropdown list appears, if you have more then one account which I have on my PC because my kids have memberships. In the list there is a couple of errors of names because of typos how do I delete these extra names? I hope this is clear and I know this is probable the wrong forum but I couldn't find the general GC.com questions. cheers
  24. Okay sorry I guess I stubbed my toe this morning so I was limping around for a couple of hours does that make me a lame cacher???? cheers
  25. hummmmm But it happens. do you feel compeled to buy coffee. cheers
