  1. Well put and probable true. They guy I cache with has close to 4000 cache snd usually leaves them in better then when we find it. cheers
  2. As many or as few as he wants. I only want to hunt inspired caches, not one someone had to put out. agree
  3. NO THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY MORE GUIDELINES< SHEEEEEEEEE we have someone like that here too with over 1000 finds and NO hides but you can not make people hide a cache any more then you can well I dkont know but it is well........ cheers
  4. Yes it would be BAD form for you to spray the wasp nest. It would be like moving a bear because it set up camp near you cache. There is one here where about 6 homeless folks have set up camp almost on top of, amanzint hey havent found it but it is a MICRO, LOL. So would you move them out for the sake of you cache????? cheers
  5. Topos are good if you in the woods but I think impractical for most urban caches. Yes youcan get Topos of urban areas but with the way I cache it would be impractical. The whole point of geocaching is using a GPSr to find an object. Yes you can do it with a map and compuss. I have found many a cache with only a map just for fun or moslty for practicality of no GPS signal. But like staated most geocachers are not two days out. Map and compass skills are good but I think are less accurte then GPS. cheers
  6. Would someone please see that Brian is still taking his medicine. Kind of like the old viking joke where the captian is addressing his men before they go in to sack the village....... cheers
  7. I beg to differ seeing as how earthquakes are caused by plate tectonics & continental drift. Thanks BFM...that was the info I was talking about. Ok..so I was off by 99 meters (somedays that is a regular occurrance) True but the OP was refering to normal plate drift. cheers
  8. Ignorance must be bliss must be bliss. cheers
  9. That is well and good bigfurry and valid but what your talking about does NOT have anything to do with plate tectonics it has to do with actually changes in the earths structire as the article states. But in the long run doe it matter the GPS is NOT that accurate any ways. So lets just put our plates away. cheers
  10. Been doing that since I started doing LC caches. Glad you found out how to do a search on a webpage. cheers
  11. The problem is, is there software for the PDA to transfer data to the GPSr. I ahve benn looking and havent found any. What is your idea????? cheers
  12. It all depends wha you want if you want a GPSr to find caches then the Garmin Yellow or an Etrex will do fine even a Geko 201, it can download waypoints. If you want something tha can autorout then one of the autorouting gpsr like the V or the 60series or even a 76CS. It all depends on what you want to do with the GPSr. cheers
  13. By your Own defination the equator WILL NOT change as it is the half way point betwwwn the NORTH and SOUTH poles. The PRIME MARIDIAN is not a fixed point either but an arbertray assigned one. cheers Yes, but the equator is not a point fixed on one of the earth's tectonic plates. A cache hiding place is. If North America is drifting with respect to the global datum (WGS84) then the actual coordinates of caches are drifting with it. However, the rate of displacement is so slow that it makes no practical difference for geocaching. But this has NOTHING to do with accuracery of your GPSr. Yes the cache will move but that only effects the location of the cache not the GPS coordinates system. And the Poles reversing is the MAGNETIC poles NOT the axial poles on which the earth spin. The euator will always be in the same spot. cheers
  14. I might start it but if it was LAME then I would just bag it. Or might finish it just to get it off my list but then that is what IGNORE is for. cheers
  15. By your Own defination the equator WILL NOT change as it is the half way point betwwwn the NORTH and SOUTH poles. The PRIME MARIDIAN is not a fixed point either but an arbertray assigned one. cheers
  16. The legend is not calibrated as it does not have a electronic compass. And all the calibration does is set the compass it DOES NOT calibrate nor in any way increase the accuracy or precision of the GPSr. cheers
  17. The Equator will NEVER change and I think that only Greenwich was an old referance point not an absolute. So you will NEVER have a change in the Latitude. The Longitude I'll have to check I know historically that zero longitude has changed depending up on the current ruling naval power. It was not till 1884 that it was set in Greenwich as the standerd. But this is only a construct it is not abosulte and can remain the same even if England moved a 100 miles east. It is not absolute but a referance system based upon man drawing a grid system around the world. You could redefine the Prime Maridian as being New York, or even Las Angelas. It would really depend upon what new standard we established. But the plats moving under is imiganary grid will not affect the GPS accuracy. cheers
  18. What is a RAM Cradle???????? I may be interest if your come down on the price. I have all the cable from as my kids lost a Geko201. cheers
  19. Just a caveat UV paint will degrade if it is exposed to SUNLIGHT so you will need to plan on a regular maintenance schedule of refreshing the paint if it is on a surface exposed to sunlight. If it is not exposed to sunlight then there should be no problem. Just a thought found this out when I was playing with the same idea. cheers
  20. I would recommend a headlamp that uses a regular light bulb over a LED as LED, most with the exception of the Inova light, do not have the power to find reflector if they are very far apart. I know I'll get argument to this point but that is my experiance. We have on local night caceh that uses BIG reflectors that my LED head lamp, a Black Diamond Moonlight 5 LEDS, would not pick up the reflectors but the Petzel head lamp with a .5 watt bulb my son had did fine. So if you want a LED head lamp which I think are GREAT then carry a minimag double AA light for shinging on the distance. cheers
  21. The actual location NEVER change just the location of the object. Say you have a benchmark at lat 30.00000 long 90.0000 well in say 5 year with a drift of 15 cm per year you might now have a location of 30.0001 90.0001, okay it is just an rought example but you get the idea I hope. The concept of Lat/Long is just a construct that is NOT depend upon what under lies i.e. land masses. So bassically NO contential drift will NOT affect the GPS. But it will affect the location of your cache, LOL. cheers
  22. What are you talking about. I have a RERADIATING ANTENNA that I use with my cab over camper. It has an external antenna that I sit on the front fender, it has a very strong magnet. Then I plugin the anntenna into the readiating antenna in the car and this into the cigarette lighter. The reradiator then broadcast a GPS signal in the cab of the truck and it works great. That is what your topic title made referance to but most the other post I don't know. cheers
  23. I know the cache owner owns the cache and all but to log the cache on GC.com can they ask for, sometimes rediculous, requirements. I mean I can go find their cache and log in the log book and put the cache back and be happy but why is it required to log on GC.com do do some extra tequirement. It almost makes one want to be a ghost cacher. It just seems well....... cheers
  24. solving it mathmatically using the associative property you get N 40° 07.6 W 020° 20.144 but if they imply and it is very POOR form to do this then you may get whatever. cheers
  25. Agreed! If a newbie comes along and has grand ideas for caches, why spoil it by exposing him to bunch of guardrail micros? I placed my first cache after only 1 find and the only thing I learned since was that I didn't have to put so much thought into the location, container and contents. I agree as well. It doesnt matter the number of finds it depends upon the desire to make a good cache. Some folks just want to hide a cache without giveing it any thought and that is what makes a LAME cache. cheers
