  1. "Please log in your bugs and trade evenly." is not a violation of the guidelines. It's phrased as a request and not a demand.

    TB hotel?

Some travelbugs have "rooms" based on what direction the bugs want to travel.
  3. You can't. You need the owner to initiate the adoption procedure.
  4. You might want to keep away from 4chan then.
  5. I've posted this before, but I think it bears repeating: These general categories should encompass most scenarios. Feel free to take from my list anything you find valuable. Edit: To add to this... If I'm sure the cache is missing or destroyed I will still log a DNF, but with the addition of a Needs Maintenance log.
  6. While at the same time were encouraging people to get out of the house and exercise thier brains and bodies... Yeah, I think it's worth it.
  7. I posted a needs maintenance on a cache is now at the center of an earth-moving project (thus, not accessible, etc). The CO cleared the flag without disabling the cache. Ugg.
  8. I think it's real - the person was added on via black sticker. I know I saw a whole series of these on a website somewhere a while back, but I can't find it now.
  9. I found (also though trial and error) that my GPS holds 1000 caches. I know a lot of people are going to recommend fancy tools (like GSAK) but mostly I just design my PQs around my needs and just load a new set each time I'm caching in a different area or when my data gets stale. So far adding another layer of complexity on top of that just hasn't been worthwhile to me. My usual work-flow is... * Decide where (I/we) are going to cache at. * Set up PQs to grab ~900 caches * Wipe the memory of my GPSr * Load PQs into GPSr's software * Load from the GPSr's software into the GPSr * Go Geocache * Use my blackberry's software if I wander outside of my PQ's area.
  10. Yeah, we wouldn't want people to use geocaching as an educational experience.
  11. I think the most graceful way to handle this (from a user-experience perspective) would be the ability for users to add private waypoints to a cache page. Then, whenever you run a PQ that includes that cache have those private waypoints be pulled like any other additional waypoint for a cache. The caveat being that a user can only see his or her own private waypoints. I know I could be totally missing something in terms of back-end stuff, but it seems to me the logic and interface for this kind of system would be very simple to implement and the database structure already exists to store waypoints. Trying to use bookmark lists to handle this... seems like a clunky non-intuitive way to implement it.
  12. The_bell_dingers, e-mails are usually considered private correspondences. Posting them in a public location is often considered rude. I would recommenced paraphrasing in the future to avoid stepping on toes.
  13. I don't disagree... but Groundspeak has been notified, so that's the end of the road as far as I know.
  14. This is also how we feel & what we do. The 'discovery' option would mean more time at a cache to write down the numbers... thus the possiblity of muggles seeing you the longer you are at the location. Probably some people like to do it just to add more numbers to their TB list, or icons in the case of GCs. Another personal preference. A quick picture with the camera on my phone is all that I do. Altho, I try to help out bugs, so I usually don't leave them in the cache.
  15. I suspect that feature is broken, however I have no real evidence.
  16. Yeah, I have an idea... This is offensive to you because you are choosing to let it become offensive. You've done as much as is reasonable to fix the situation and asside from archiving your cache in a petulant fit there isn't anything left you can do. So... Chill out and let it go. Don't let it impact your own enjoyment of geocaching.
  17. I don't know about the newer models, but my Triton 400 gives me some paperless caching features. Oddly enough it doesn't give me logs, GC-code or cache size... but it does give most everything else.
  18. huh? if you take something in ROT13 and put it in ROT13, you get plaintext. so his hint was already decoded? or just backwards? It would look plaintext on the cache page if you didn't have it decodded... but it would be codded on the GPS or when you use the "decode" link.
  19. It had a log. I would consider that to be an invite for a signature.
  20. Have you tried using BlackStar Nav with bcaching.com? It has some of the same features as Cacheberry but seems to be less polished. If you have data access BlackStar can pull a PQ of the 20 nearest caches from bcaching.com.

  22. One thing I might recommend would be to paint the can with the lid closed. Paint on the o-ring or the surface where the o-ring contacts can compromise the water-tightness. You can mask it with tape, but just painting with the lid closed is usually quicker. As far as camouflaging goes... the goal is the break up the straight lines and to use colors that match the surroundings. Alternating (flat) brown and green blobs is a good start... after that you can take a few leaves from the area, set them on the surface and hit them with a few shots of flat black paint. The over-spray with create great shadows and further break up the outline. Here's an example created by briansnat of what i'm talking about: http://img.Groundspeak.com/track/ac6ec50c-...55820d952c4.jpg (warning, may be a spoiler)
