  1. Post pics of the kids....no problem... But, no way will I post pics of my dogs, in case the dog nappers read the forum. I guess I could disguise them, put dark glasses on them, but it is probably better just to not post the dog's pics. You never know who is out there !
  2. When bugs are biting and someone is looking for gators, while you log, usually, I prefer, a simple sticker and a TN/LN/SL, close it up and get out of there.. I do my creative logging at home on the computer logging into the geocache site, it is much easier with a cold beer in your hand than dodging the wild life. Rick
  3. Hey.. I did too. I'm a PADI Master Instructor...
  4. Hehehehe yeah, a pic so we know what they look like....click.... just kidding of course !
  5. I was told the same thing. No virtuals are allowed in Texas, since 2003. I was also told that there was nothing spectacular about a 350 y/o tree. Maybe that is true in northern Calif. But, how many 350 y/o trees has this reviewer seen in the Gulf Coast ?
  6. You mean there is terrain ratings ????? Just remember, when dealing with bears and gators; you don't have to outrun them, just outrun the person you are with !
  7. I know that this changes the subject a bit, but here is how I did a multi. Thorolfur's Treasure Oh, BTW, I think I'll drop the idea, of the surprise 2nd leg... Thanks for the feedback.
  8. I don't want to give a lot away, but I have an idea and I am wondering if it would work, or piss people off. I would set up a regular multi cache. After the cachers decoded the puzzle and get the coordinates, they arrive at a location and find the cache, open it (remember, there were told it was a multi) and inside is just the lats/longs of the next leg, along with the instruction: "Oh, by the way, we forgot to tell you, the second leg can only be done at night. It is not possible to follow the firetacks during the day. The lats/longs given here are the starting point of the night trek" In other words, we did not tell them the second leg was a night-only cache until they found the first cache. Would you laugh or would it piss you off ?????? Rick
  9. The problem as I see it and I have 4 caches out, 1 Multi, 1 park and grab, and 1 what I thought was a puzzle (but now, after reading on the forum) I consider a "trivia" cache.. This is it: Oil ! I have tried the specialized knowledge caches and ran into some road blocks. A couple I have done, are from people whose job is specialized in Navigation or Oil exploration. These type made specialized puzzles are very difficult for someone without that particular knowledge. I have even run into "jargon" which was used in the puzzle cache, that only the people having particular knowledge of that job would know. Years ago, we used to do the Treasure Hunt, Road Rally games three or four times a year. I made many of the clues and realized you had to use different pes so no one would have an advantage. If you look at my cache above, about 1/2 hour with Google and "Ask Jeeves" gets you all the answers. But you can't do it in the field. I am currently working on another Puzzle or Trivia cache. So I guess with all of this, is IMHO to be careful with the puzzle or trivia requiring specialized knowledge.. Rick
  10. Thanks for all the encouragement. Even we, who live in paradise, (Texas!) get down-hearted once in awhile...
  11. To quote the old Smothers Brothers skit; "there were pumas in the crevices" (cravises)
  12. Of course, my daughter, one of " Two of the Texas Vikings" went out this morning and found one of the one's that were DNF on Sunday. When I got up, in the afternoon (I work nights) There was a "na-na-na, I found it !" on my answering machine... Now I have to go back out and find it, or I will never hear the end of it...
  13. After a long day, Sunday, geocaching with Two of the Texas Vikings and one of Two Other of the Texas Vikings. We found three and DNF three. I wondering, do you get frustrated when you try your hardest to find them, not knowing if they have been "muggled" or not. Then find out they were there. Of the three we tried to find. One was "muggled", one is still there, and we haven't heard from the owner on the third. So do you get frustrated when you find out, it wasn't muggled ?
  14. I, in my fishing vest, have tape, wire, and imitation leatherman (naugahydeman) string, etc. for fixing caches. So far have only had to do a little mopping out. Rick
  15. I have eight MobilPlay Vikings, headed for Iceland. I put them in a cache in the Houston Area. Check them out here Viking TB's Rick
  16. I had a tough time, finding one... finally added a DNF. But, while looking, found this camo ammo box..!
  17. The answer is ammo can and a thick chain or aircraft cable lag bolted to a tree or stump.....
  18. Oh, simple, huh ? What if both my partner and I have accounts and he/she spots it first, can I log it ? I didn't find it. (Well, I did, but it was in their hands.) If I find it first, can they log it ? Do we have to stay step by step together or race into the woods to be first ? Or maybe 1/2 for each ???? very confusing...... Maybe we could have a tribunal which, would look at each logging individually and decided whether they are "legal" finds or "shared" finds or what ever... Then of course, we would have to have an appeallant divison, in case of an appeal.... hmmmm Probably wouldn't need a Supreme type court, unless of course, someone started the American Geoocaching Liberties Union, then we would need a supreme group to maybe decide for everyone, which could be logged and which shouldn't. Hmmmmm...... Jeremy ???
  19. I always log. But, I read logs on my caches with great interest. I have spend a lot of time and money making these caches and I like to see other people's comments, good or bad and I feel much better when they see what it was done for, why it was hidden in the first place. I really appreciate it when others log. I have 8 TBs out now, representing the 8 Texas Vikings. They are racing toward Iceland, with the first one there winning. Those logs are also very interesting to read, so don't forget to log a little infor when you place a TB... Rick
  20. Scairt me......woooo thought that said revenewer....!!! "Billy Bob.. no, it was Re-viewer !!!"
  21. I don't.... I take cache one and leave it where cache two was and then put two where three was and so at the end of the day, I'm left with one, I dump it out and use it the next time I go out. !!!! Sorry, couldn't resist... I have had a few problems like that, but, not to the degree you have....
  22. Amen !!!! I am tired of some of the low quality hides. Any Bozo can throw a micro over his left shoulder with his right hand and call it placed.. Within 50 miles of my house are over 2,000 caches, but there is plenty of room for more. BTW. 50 miles is still in the city of Houston. So, instead of how many against how many, why not find some and see what others have done, then use that knowledge to create a similar one, or maybe to get a better idea... Forget the complaining about the quality of SWAG, lets spend some time looking at the Quality of Caches, not the quantity.... Rick
