  1. I find that when I am in a crowd, if I wear my aluminum foil hat and mutter under my breath, "there's one, there's another !" no one asks me

Actually, I keep it out and if someone asks, I tell them, if not, let them stare...

    I'm having fun ! :anibad:

  2. The first person to cause me some grief was a student!   He thought it would be cute to say that he was going to "geosmash" my caches, in word only of course. He was jealous that I was giving more attantion to another student that was getting into geocaching a lot.

    Not a smart move.

    I would think that appropriate way to handle this is to take the young man aside;

    explain the benefits of geocaching and the great outdoors;

    explain about the property of others and why it is important;

Then hit him in the head with an ammo can !

  3. Funny, I bought a GPSr (Vista) for flying a PPG and on reading on the web about it,

someone mentioned "geocaching" I wondered what it was and further researched it. I haven't been the same since.

Unfortunately, I had to sell the PPG because of medical reasons, after wanting to fly an ultralight for about 50 years. Now, I'm earthbound, but I did get to fly some, about 50 hours.....

Sorry to hear that, just started flying ultralights myself - very addicting (and cold!) Any chance of flying again at all?

No, I don't think so... At age 59, I was diagnosed with a form of MS.

It not only affects my feet, but my balance as well.

Dr. said, get rid of the PPG and get a boat... But, it sure is fun to look down between your knees from 2,800 feet !:unsure:

  4. I think I disagree.

I can see where a church parking lot, would be a 1/1, but because of a deeper trench down the middle to let water run off, would not be wheelchair accessible, or maybe parking bumpers. You would not want someone in a wheelchair going to this location to fetch a cache, because it is a 1/1 and then finding out it was not available to them because of a series of parking bumpers, which an ambulatory person could walk over and not think about it.

So a 1/1 may be wheelchair accessible, but it also may not. Why rate an open parking lot as described 1.5/1 for walking cachers. ?

"An elephant may have fleas, but a flea cannot have elephants"

A 1/1 may be wheelchair accessibile, but it does not have to be, therefore a wheelchair accessibile is a 1/1, but a 1/1 is not "automatically" wheelchair accessibile.

Besides, if you are not wheelchair bound, how would you know ?

    Just my .02 cents

I have since introduced geocaching to my whole family, 3-4 people at work,

a couple of people I have met in parks, etc....

  6. Here is how I did my latest one.

With a "junk" tool kit from Walmart. But the real thing I was after was the tube. Of course, I can always use extra screw drivers around the house.

1.throw the tools in my junk drawer.

2.glue on a hole support to hold the aircraft cable and then spray with plastic krylon paint, dark green

3.glue on camo burlap from walmart

4.find the right area, wrap the thin cable around a tree

    and you have a cache.

I am looking into buying more of these tubes. 2" x 10" about $1.30

and air tight and water proof...

  7. i just picked up a safari vest from cabelas and it's awesome for geocaching. i can fit both of my gpsr's, compass, gloves, tb's, and all the other stuff i take with me. check it out.

I went cheaper and got a fishing vest. All kinds of pockets .Plus it has a large pocket in the back, to put my camel bak in, with ice in it to keep me cool.

My partners laugh and hum the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" theme, everytime we go out.

But, I do like the vest, keep all my gear in it. Grab my staff, my hat and vest and I'm ready go (but no whip...)

  8. You know what?  I don't care if this is off-topic.  I'm absolutely astounded.  I hope none of you "bum-haters" dare to call yourselves "Christian".  After all, Jesus and his followers were bums too, weren't they?

Imagine yourselves without work, without resources, without family, maybe with health or addiction problems or mental illness; imagine yourselves living on the street because you have nowhere else to go, having to steal or sell your bodies in order to survive, day after day after day.  Life on the street is hell on the body and the soul.  It extracts a massive toll, so have a little compassion and try to imagine that these "bums" were once innocents, too - but somewhere along the line they were dealt a very bad hand.  Maybe "hallowed ground" and "good manners" mean different things to people who are sick, hungry, and haven't showered in weeks, than to those of us who are fortunate and affluent enough to be able to engage in the pastime of geocaching.  I'm so disgusted with you people I could puke.

Except the woman, who had her three year old on the median of the highway, with her and a sign wanting good people to help.. She was making $250. a day, tax free !!!!

God helps those who help themselves, like El Diablo did.

You did the right thing with the cache

  9. To heck with the rock, did you deface the penny?  That could net you some time in the pokey:

    United States Code

    TITLE 18 PART I CHAPTER 17

§ 331. Mutilation, diminution, and falsification of coins

“Whoever fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates, impairs, diminishes,

falsifies, scales, or lightens any of the coins coined at the mints of

the United States [...] — Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than

    five years, or both.”

This only applies if the coin is going to be used as legal tender or spent. Otherwise, you could not use a penny or quarter smasher at Walt Disney World.

  10. There are slob hunters as well as slob geocachers.  Probably the same percentage of drunks in both crowds, too.

Yes, but a "Slob Geocacher" is not likely to kill anyone with his GPSr

I worry about the "Bozo" on his first hunting trip, with a doe permit and a

.44magnum, ready to shoot anything that moved ! B)

Last year I took my ex-wife, gave her a fur coat and Rudolph hat and everything. ;)

Anyway, I confine my walks in the woods this time of year to woods in the city.

    Tb

Anyone know how I can get in touch with "AmishHacker" he has had my TB since May, that's 5 months. I would like him to mail it to me...

    Thanks....

  11. Wish these reporters would check their facts, it's really easy to do.

GPS satellites do not orbit in 'geostationary' orbits at 22,240 miles.  According to the U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center*, they orbit with a 12-hour period at 22,200 kilometers, which equates to 10,900 nautical miles.

Does this really matter, if you are not, in fact, a satellite !

"way up thar and yonder" would even do.....
