  1. I think if you go on HP you go to settings\system\asset viewer (at least that's what it's called on my 2215) then click on the "+" beside VERSION you will find that the OS version is Windows CE 4.xx or later. Pocket PC is Windows CE. Hope this helps. I don't connect my GPS to my IPAQ yet, Cable problems and worries about battery drain. May try sometime just to see.
  2. This brings up another question ( I’m still a newbee also), if it’s not logged in to the cache where you found it, and you grab it, do you log a drop and retrieve in that cache, in order to keep it mileage correct? I am thinking of a situation where you plan on placing it in another cache soon, in order to help the bug on it’s quest. Cache Well
  3. Fair? Definitly, also MEWBAN. I will studying this for a while. BTW, MEWBAN is Mean, Evil, Wicked, Bad and Nasty, all complementary adjectives.
  4. Just a random thought Clyde, but please pay attention to priority when programing the color choices for DNF and FOUND boxes. I don't think anyone will log a DNF after a FIND, so the FOUND color needs to have priority. Or am I the ony one that makes this type of mistake? Maybe this just needs a DUH.
  5. I would assume (Yeah, I know what that spells) that the 60 is similar to the 76 so, here goes, Get to the menu page and select "SETUP", in the SETUP page Select "ROUTING" go down to each of the first two options and press "ENTER". Then select the option for each one you want. Personally, I like to keep my options for Guidance Method and Follow Route Method as PROMPTED, this allows me to use FOLLOW ROAD to get to the area of the cache, then chose "OFF ROAD" when I get out of the Cachemobile. Also, until I learn more about the autorouting I can switch between FASTEST and SHORTEST to experiment. Hope this helps. Cache Well.
  6. Today, it appears to be working better. I just logged two caches and a travel bug with log edits with no delays or blank screens. I did not do anything to my system between yesterday and today. Oh well, the mysteries of the internet.
  7. The calculations you need to project a new waypoint from a known waypoint based on distance and bearing involve transformation of spherical coordinates and a lot of trigonometry. BUT there is hope, I googled this and found a Calculator for Distances between Geographical Locations Fill in the form on the right. Don't know how accurate it is, but it should be close. Cache Well
  8. Yes, I am using IE, this problem only appears on certain pages. All the forums work fine. It's just after I hit submit on the items I mentioned in my previous post. All the other sites I visit regularly still have the normal load time. Only the follow up to a submit button click. I can't believe that GC.com is IE challenged to be politically correct.
  9. For the last few days I have been having problems of the next screen load taking an extremely long time to load after hitting the submit button on PQ, Log entries, Log Updates, and Sending Email through gc.com. Is anyone else having a similar problem or is it just me. The only thing I can think that I might have done to cause this is to install a couple of Windows Critical Updates from Microsoft. Thanks,
  10. I think that the purpose of travel bugs is to travel. To travel from cache to cache. Some Bugs have a specific purpose such as to travel to certain places, certain types of caches, to as many caches as possible or a number of other specific goals. IMHO, if the cacher in question is not going against the specific purpose of any of the bugs he is moving, then he is just helping out. I would prefer this to having my bug sit in a cache for a long time, I get worried about that. My first Travel Bug just got picked up by a cacher that sometimes does this and dropped it for now. I don't know if he plans to retrieve it again or not and I don't care as long as it's moving regularly. Plus, he increased the mileage by more than an order of magnitude, admittedly it was low to start with, but it's now picking up speed. Just my personal feelings but here they are.
  11. Maybe this is a dumb question, but wouldn't it get more attention (With who counts) on the Website forum? I like the idea. I picked up a YJTB at an event cache that wasn't dropped there, so I had to grab it. Alright, I should have dropped it and retrieved it, but as a newbe, didn't know better. Also lost the paper I wrote the code on so I can't go back and post a note for it. Now it's milage is a little short.
  12. You need to post this to the Geocaching.com Web Site Forum, fourth forum listed. That's where TPTB listen to problems like this.
  13. another test Test Link
  14. This will require a custom cable as most PDAs use custom connectors for their "USB" sync cable, and the Garmin USB connector is definitly custom. I have been looking for one for the IPAQ 2200 series to my 76C without luck. I think I have a solution, but haven't tried it yet. I am going to get a IPAQ 2200 series sync cable (one that doesn't use the cradle) and a USB male to male Gender changer to connect that to my 76's USB Cable. This is on schedule for tomorrow, unless Frys is open today. I'll let you know if it works. The Garmin USB cable is the same cable as the Sony Clie PDA cable and a Sony Digital Camera Cable, its a USB mini-B Connector at the small end. Thanks, GOT GPS?, I was at the electronics store today for the gender changer and a sync cable and saw a USB to Camera cable that looked exactly like the Garmin USB Cable, wasn't sure if the wiring was the same. Found the gender cable but no sync cable ofor the 2215 that I have. Used the gender cable and the cradle, but didn't get it to work yet. Only tried it with Street Atlas 2004 Hand Held so haven't given up yet.
  15. From a neophite geocacher, I usually try to take pictures of my (few) caching attemps, and if they aren't spoilers, I will post in the logs sometime, if they turn out allright. On virtuals, if others haven't posted pics, I will email the owner to ask permission before, just to make sure he doesn't mind. Also pics taken at event caches are a good idea, others seem to enjoy seeing themselves at the event.

  17. I wasn't aware that GSAK worked on PDAs, What type of PDA do you have?
  18. Are you sure your radius is set to a high enough distance to get all 200 of your Non-finds? Corrected dropped word.
  19. Just Trying to figure out how this signature thing works. Appears sometimes, sometimes not.
  20. I too have this problem, plus another. My Sony laptop has no serial (Read EIE-232 BUS) port, only USB which is also a serial bus. Street Atlas 2004 and GSAK do not yet have the option for USB, and my MapSource program refuses to regester properly. Currently trying to get this last solved with Garmin, but unsuccessful so far. Luckly, I have found another freeware program that does communicate with my GPSMAP 76C using the USB cable. This program is g7towin. What I have ended up having to do is Import the Export GPX files from GSAK, properly filtered, Edit the file (replace <desc>xxx</desc> with <cmt>xxx</cmt> in order to get the cache name, into the proper field for downloading into the 76C. Then I load this into g7towin and from their it's a simple couple of mouse click to download into the GPSr. Then after marking my finds in the GPSr. I have to reverse the procedure to get them back to GSAK. Actually for this I just log them directly into GSAK by editing each waypoint. This isn't too bad as I am a newbee to Geocaching and don't do many caches per day. Hope this helps. I am waiting until Delorme and GSAK decide to implement the USB option for Garmin. May even decide to make a donation to GPSBabel to hurry up the process.
  21. This is a test to see if my updates are correct
