  1. Jeremy, I asked this once before in this thread, but haven’t gotten a response from you yet, so I will ask once more, politely and respectfully. Are you still thinking about adding “MICRO” to the Cache Type definitions or does adding the Size Bar Icon to the search results cover this. The reason I am asking is because of Clyde England’s stance on adding “Small” to the size choices in GSAK. Thanks for your attention to this question and Thanks for the Great Site. Cache Well
  2. The purposes of the User Flags are many, but I use them mainly to identify specific caches in a filter that I want to download, if I decide I don’t want to download all in the filter. Just after deciding that a cache is to be included, I set the User Flag for that cache. Once I have checked all that I want to download, I filter for User Flag Set, and download the results. Hope this Helps Cache Well
  3. First, you may have your GPSr set to “Follow Road”. Geocache mode only works when in the direct route mode. This is set on the Menu/Setup/Routing page. I set both “Guidance Method” and “Follow Road” options to “Prompted” This way when I want auto routine I can select “Follow Road” and when I get to the search location I can Select “Direct”. With “Direct” mode selected when you press “GOTO” with on the Waypoint Page it will open the Geocache Mode Page, which has a button “FOUND” when you select this it changes you Icon to what ever you have set for GEOCACHE FOUND. Hope this helps Cache Well.
  4. Ditto . I just had to back out of Netscape and reboot with IE. Using the new system is pretty neat. Nice Job. thumbs up over here! Now if we can import it to the pda and gps! SF1 Using GSAK and the smartcode feature I get the Type and Size into my waypoint names for downloading to the GPSr and the PDA, That way I can tell at a glance what I am looking for. Cache Well.
  5. I think that was a typo. He meant urbane caches - you know, ones that are polished and sophisticated. Caches that hold out their pinkie finger when they drink a cup of tea, while wearing an ascot. Thank you, I'm still laughing so hard I can't type. Cache Well
  6. GSAK hasn't been ported to the Pocket PCs. I use GPXSonar. It does a job similar to GSAK and you can log finds and export them to a txt file for importing into GSAK later. Cache Well
  7. Jeremy, Can we now assume that there will be no change to the "Type" of caches? Thanks for a job well done. Cache Well
  8. Having perused these forums for a while now, trying to assist where I can, I have seen a lot of requests for different types of new features. While a very few of these requests are of interest to a wide variety of cachers, most seem to be directed towards the desires of individuals that while they could be of some benefit a large majority of the users of this site, the majority have wouldn’t really use them. These changes and additions seem to the requestor to be simple, of great use and probably to have little impact on the site, but each one increases the processing required, the amount of data stored, or both of these items. This would only negatively impact the problems we have been having lately during times of high usage. I would prefer that for the near term, the employees and volunteers working on the programming and database aspects of this site concentrate on making it less susceptible to lockup and slowdowns during extreme usage times. With this in mind, I would like to ask all those that have new features that they would like to see implemented to analyze that request very carefully before making the request. Some of the questions to be asked during this analysis are listed below: 1. What percentage of the average user does this feature address? 2. Will it make caching easier for the majority of users or does it only address a limited number of users? 3. Will it add to the page processing time for each page load? 4. Will it impact the amount of data stored on each page? 5. Is there a simple way I can do this on my own, with separate software and/or batch file processing? 6. Will this request make caching a more enjoyable experience? These are not by any means the only questions you need to ask yourself but just serve as an example. If after performing this analysis you still feel that your request makes sense in that it makes caching easier for the majority of the cachers that use the site. Then feel free to request it. Thanks for taking time to read my rant and please don’t take it wrong. I just want the website to function efficiently for the majority of cachers before we add bells and whistles that only impact a small portion off the users. Cache Well
  9. Curious, in my browser they did have hover text. At least for Micro, Regular and Not Chosen. Cache Well
  10. Yes, thanks. This won't break GSAK, it just means for the moment you would not be able to to a filter on size small. They are also talking about making micro anther cache type. I want to wait for the smoke to settle on all this before I rush into any changes for GSAK. As I read through all of the topics on this, I get the impression that Jeremy's response to making micros a type instead of a size is "AINT GONNA HAPPEN". I think his solution of adding the size icon to the seach results will stop the requests for the type change. Anyway, as it stands, I don't think you can add "SMALL" to the cache page yet, it doesn't matter if I can't filter for it in GSAK yet either. Thanks for everything. Cache Well
  11. First off, what is the make and model of your GPSr, and what OS you are using on your PC. If you use Windows, I would download Geocaching Swiss Army Knife and install it. Downloading from the website to GSAK to your GPSr is really easy after that. Try reading through the GSAK topic on the GPS and Software Forum. Cache Well
  12. Clyde, Are you aware of the new cache size that is being added to the pages. They now have a size of small, somewhere between micro and regular. Just wanted to make sure that you were aware of this? Cache Well
  13. They indicate Cache Size.
  14. Anybody checked out the search results pages lately? Cache Well

One quick question. Is this feature going to be part of the database, I.E. a bunch of check-off fields, or will it be something like the TXGA Selector that adds HTML to the description? In other words, how much will it impact the database processing load during peak usage periods? I guess that's more than one question, but I think it's all related. Thanks for the consideration of these questions. Cache Well
  16. Nice Quick Work, Jememy. This is an excellent solution. And I like the look. Thanks Cache Well.
  17. Well, I got it approved because I know a couple of people who have agreed to check on it for me. It's a bit of a hassle for them to do so (most Israelis don't actually live in the desert , at least not since Moses). However, the cache is near a couple of pretty neat resorts on the Dead Sea, and it's not too far from the highway to Eilat, which is a popular resort as well. So I can dispatch someone without too much trouble, and TPTB felt that was adequate. Whether it actually IS adequate remains to be seen. In that case, you have done an excellent job. This really helps the goal of the TB and you are to be congratulated for going above and beyond the call of duty. Cache Well
  18. I believe that it was archieved, as it should be, because it was muggled. The NASA muggles took it. Now, given that this is started as a geek hobby, were any of the NASA Engineers on the recovery team Cachers? Cache Well Edit: Read this with a grin. If you can't see the humor in this, sorry. Again Cache Well
  19. I have only one question. If you don't live in the area, how did you get this cache approved? I would like for any of my bugs to travel to foriegn lands but if an cacher places a cache in an unlikely place, just so he can leave a travel bug, I question this. It probably would have been more appropriate to drop and retrieve the bug in all the caches you visited, and then leave it in a cache where it is more likely to be picked up. That being said, if it rests too long in this cache, you might want to consider picking it up, the next time you go to do cache maintenance. Cache Well
  20. I have used Street Atlas by Delorme to do this. I am sure the current versions will do it but the last time I did it was 1996 or so. Tracked a trip through New Mexico just fine. Haven't needed to do it lately. Cache Well
  21. First, Did you get a CDRom with MapSource Trips and Waypoint manager with you GPSr? If so, install this, then use GSAK to export you waypoints to a .mps file and load them into Mapsource T&WM and from there to your GPSr over the USB. Additionally after you install Mapsource, you might want to download the latest version from the Garmin website, unless yours is the latest. Next, wait a little while and GSAK will have the USB Comms to your Garmin, should be soon. See this Post. Cache Well
  22. Yeah, and some bug owners respectfully request that if you find their bug in a cache like this and can help it move, but don’t have a bug to trade, that you ignore the cache owner and take the bug anyway. Caches like this can stifle a bug’s movement. And that you not place their bug in a cache with this restriction, in the first place. Cache Well
  23. But why couldn’t we just slap a Geocaching.com Stencil and call it a Traditional. Gotto be some interesting swag that’s broken loose inside that. ‘Course tradin’ up’s gonna be a real problem. Cache Well
  24. You might want to check out the latest posts on the Geocaching Swiss Army Knife topic in this forum and this post Click Here about the results of my beta testing of the USB download. Cache Well
