  1. I love this little device, but don't have time to cache right now. This item is worth 400. Asking for 200. It has hardly been used and comes with everything needed to get up and get caching. Interested parties please email me Cmargheim@gmail.com
  2. ONly had this unit a few weeks. Selling to make ends meet this month. Unit works great! interested parties email cmargheim@gmail.com Asking 200
  3. Looking to get back into caching again with a decent gps model. Must be in decent condition. I'm looking for something on the newer side, but certainly doesn't need to be paperless. I have cables, but prefer not to use usb interface. email cmargheim@gmail.com if interested!
  4. I recently purchased an Etrex H, which has a different cable output than my previous etrex hcx I owned. I'm trying to figure out the name of the cable I'd need. http://tinyurl.com/5vrkabu
  5. I ordered this from amazon, and meant to order a slightly different model. Came in the mail from amazon yesterday, includes batteries, manual. If seller will not honor refund then i would like to sell this item starting at 80 USD. Interested parties contact me at cmargheim@gmail.com for more info or check here for the amazon listing.
  6. ------------- Do you still have the Garmin Etrex, and what is your approximate location (City, State/Prov)? ------------- Still have it! I live in Blacksburg, VA US.
  7. I have a nice garmin extrex venture hc I can give you for 60 dollars:)

  9. Seeking a decent deal on a paperless GPS unit. Send emails to cmargheim@gmail.com! Currently looking at garmin colorado and oregon series but am open to others as long as they're paperless!
  10. I'm aware of the models and what they can do. I posted this so someone could possibly sell me one. Thanks.
  11. Looking to make an upgrade to a better gps with paperless geocaching. I'll make you a decent offer! Item should be in good shape! New or used is okay. I'm looking to spend no more than 250 on this item. Currently considering pn 40 and Dakota series.
  12. So I'm nearing my 150th cache this weekend, and I've decided to go for an upgrade. I'm currently using a garmin etrex hc which I got for 67 dollars through these forums, and it's worked beautifully, I only wish it had some more useful features. Specifically, I'd really like paperless caching! Without spending an arm and a leg. I could go up to about 300 maybe. I'd like to be able to find parking and hints in my unit without having to try and remember that as well as cache size. Any suggestions?
  13. I am getting ready to place my second cache. It's a really cool container and I wanted to be sure coordinates were accurate, or else nobody is ever going to find it! My first cache I placed had everyone off by about 40 feet and it wasn't in any real tree cover. What is the best method? And do I really need to take 3 days to place a cache? I am thinking that an average of 10 coord readings is sufficient, I'm not sure how to average them on my gps unit (if it even does it...I have an etrex hc). Thanks!
  14. My friend and I cache together on weekends. I have an etrex venture hc and he has an oregon. The last time we went out with both gps units, all of mine dissappeared and transferred to his device. Neither of us did anything manually for this to happen. Later on, my cache list reappeared on my unit. I was just wondering...whats up with that?
  15. This is true. A couple of the nanos were not that hard to find, just easily overlooked. I found one today the size of a watch battery! But when it looks like a nail or a screw it's pretty tough to notice (which is the point.) By the way HHH, I lived in Greensboro for a year, not far from you! Some friends turned me onto it there. I actually found your geocaching youtube posts before finding you on here. Very informative for a beginner like me. Thanks!
  16. Okay, so first of all, this is ridiculously addictive. I started on friday and have found nearly 20 caches. I really enjoy challenging myself with nanos, but am still working on my honing skills. Just curious, any tips for finding nanos? It seems that the majority of caches in my area are nanos and I would like to become more successful with them!
  17. My area has had heavy rains recently and many of the logs I am finding in caches are soaked! I'd like to leave a small piece of paper for future cachers...is this acceptable? Maybe I'm just walking on eggshells unnecessarily here, but, I figured I should at least ask.
  18. Thanks, guys! Thanks for the great advice. What is the best way to triple check my coords? I'm using a Garmin Venture HC if that helps.
  19. By chance does anyone know if it is Vista compatible? I bought a new laptop over the winter and just realized that my trusty Belkin RS232 to USB adapter isn't Vista compatible. So as far as I can see - my options are: 1) Use a computer that's running XP - which means $$$ since all three of ours run Vista 2) Buy a new GPS - although tempting is just not what I really want to do 3) Go back to printing out everything instead of downloading coordinates into my eTrex Legend 4) Figure out what cable is going to work the first time around that doesn't cost more than a GPS that comes with a Vista compatible cable. Yep! I just got an Etrex Venture HC that works perfectly with my Vista machine!
  20. Hey cachers! Today was my first day of caching and I had a lot of fun finding 5/6 caches I set out to today. I'm planning more tomorrow and wanted to get in on the fun of hiding a cache myself. I have a few questions. I have taken time to read the guidelines on the site but wanted some additional input. I would like to place a cache with enough size to it to see some cool stuff in there, maybe even some coins and such. Obviously, I want to place it somewhere where people will not accidentally find it, or where people searching for it may get in trouble. Other than that, are there any rules of thumb you stick to not mentioned on the forum guidelines? Thanks in advance!
  21. Hey guys, I posted this in another forum also... I'm new to geocaching and purchased a garmin etrex h recently. The coordinates seem to be way off on the device. I have checked them with the site and with my other gps unit and they are miles off, literally. I don't yet have the cable to load waypoints, but my other gps units still get me within the proximity of the cache. Is there any trou bleshooting I can do....or should I just exchange the item?
  22. Hey guys, I'm new to geocaching and decided to grab a basic gps model, so I nabbed an etrex h yesterday. I took it for a spin today and found it to be very inaccurate. The coordinates on the site are nowhere close to the coordinates I get on my etrex h. Matter of fact, when using my TOM TOM to drive to the general area of the site, they match up pretty closely with the site coordinates. I am wondering if this is a faulty unit or if I need to look into another option like getting the cable. Thanks! Chance
