  1. I guess I'll jump in and be counted. Currently own: Garmin GPSMap 76S - Love this one for geocaching Garmin Quest - Just purchased online yesterday for an upcoming vacation, haven't even gotten it yet Previously owned: Garmin etrex Vista - Great GPS capabilities, poor durability Garmin GPS 12 - Still a classic, the guy I gave it to still uses it frequently
  2. I have used my Garmin 76S on many Southwest flights, but I also keep it somewhat concealed. I also have an external antenna that fits nicely up between the window and the visor and gives me a great signal!
  3. Being a surveyor, I search for benchmarks quite often, many times with no results. It would be nice if more surveyors would report their findings (or lack thereof) to the NGS, but most don't (including the company I work for unfortunately) so the benchmark I looked for last week, and didn't find, may have been 'not found' by 20 other people. Therefore I find benchmark hunting rather frustrating. Besides, I like actually finding a cache and seeing what kind of stuff is in it! PS - I have considered reporting my benchmark finds the the NGS under the GEOCAC agency code, but I haven't done that yet. If anyone else wants to do this, just note that the NGS has very specific standards for benchmark reporting.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Tiggr:1. How long have you been actively using a GPS? 2. What got you started? 3.What keeps you currently using it? 1. Not sure when, bought a Garmin GPS12 back when they were new, have since upgraded twice, first to a Vista (and was very disappointed in how rugged it was NOT, after using the GPS12), then to a GPSMAP 76S (no complaints so far). 2. Originally just something to play with. 3. Mainly for Geocaching (of course!), but also use Trimble units at work for land surveying. (I'll have to get one of those to hide my first cache and nail the coords to within a fraction of an inch!)

It also allows you to put in obstacles such as ridgelines and mountains or high buildings. I don't know if this is the software you are talking about, but it does the same thing. It is from Trimble. 6. I would highly recommend premium membership, even if you are only an occasional cacher. It is relatively inexpensive, and the custom queries are great! I can't get out to cache every week, but when I want to the file is right there in my email waiting to be uploaded. As for the pda files, I would stay away from Mobipocket. Just use Spinner and a document viewer (I prefer iSilo to Plucker, but that's just me) and you are ready to go.
