  1. Cabelas has the Oregon on sale starting on the 23rd of Nov for $200. In store and online.
  2. It is all personal preference. I use a Garmin 200 and that is fine for what I do, so I think that is the best. Look at each of the brands, look at the features and design, and make a choice.
  3. I have an Oregon 200 and it is very nice. I don't worry about memory too much because you can put what you need on a SD card. It is very accurate and very easy to use. I have used it through out the great state of Minnesota without a problem while fishing, ice fishing, trail hiking, geocaching, and many other adventures.
  4. Go into the 'latest' folder and click on the 4000mb file. It is 2.9GB. It will take a little while to download.
  5. I agree with the smartphone deal. I don't want to use any smartphone for my GPS because they are not that rugged, waterproof, and I don't find them as accurate. It maybe good enough for some situations but not all.
  6. I second that about the Garmin Oregon wiki pages. I have learned so much from that site.
  7. Start doing some research. There is loads of info on the web and you should be able to find what you are looking for, even if it is used.
  8. I am still using my computer that I built 6-7 years ago since I don't have the money to upgrade all the hardware. I put Windows 7 on it and it worked awesome. Computers are part of my job and I am going to school for Computer Science so I know a little about it. Anyone that does upgrade from XP will have to verify that their hardware will be compatible and that the OS will not bog down the system (ie, RAM memory). Other than that I find that Windows 7 is a great OS and I like it better than XP.
  9. I run Windows 7 at home on both computers that I use with my Garmin. Both 64 and 32 bit. It runs without issues and I really like Windows 7. Way nicer than Vista and better than XP(which I still use at work). If you can upgrade to 7 then do so. There will be so much software that will not be able to work on XP coming out.
  10. I found this out this morning on 3.85 for the x00 Oregons. I was trying to edit my waypoints, not the Geocaches. I emailed Garmin about it. Anyone else see this?
  11. I have the Oregon 200 and I love it. For me the screen is just fine. It could be better, but it is viewable in bright sunlight. It is in bright overcast days that it is harder to read, but it is still viewable. I think that the Oregon is a good deal in that price range. Plus you can find a lot of free topo maps for the Oregon (Garmin).
  12. Your link sent me to the Magellans site map. Magellan's New Gps Try this.
  13. I have the Oregon 200 and really don't have much of an issue with the screen. Would I like it to be brighter, yes, but I still can read it when ever I want to.
  14. I'd call it confrontational. Or both!
  15. and, yeah, you are acting pretentious.
  16. That's not "pretension." That's maybe "presumption" -- and sure as hell sticks the ball in their court. You're aware . . . I PRESUME . . . That the chronology in the transcript runs from bottom (oldest) to top (newest)? The headers include dates, times . . . Maybe a close reading, eh? ALL OF YOU ! ! ! RE-READ THE TRANSCRIPTS . . . BOTTOM TO TOP, OLDEST TO NEWEST. [Potty language removed by moderator.] I read the transcript. I also read your really nice language on a family friendly forum. Again, what you posted was a 5 day transcript which you prematurely terminated by returning the unit. It's not Garmin's fault that you 1) decided to stop working with them and returned the unit and 2) bought the software from a retailer instead of from their website. Since you purchased from a retailer, then you will have to take up the refund with the retailer. I second this.
  17. I own two Garmins and have talked to customer support a few times. No problems what so ever. One thing I don't understand. Are you really expecting good support when you say the phrase "Let's see some "Customer Service" here . . . Do you stand behind your products or not?" Acting a little pretentious?
  18. It is one thing to voice opinions about the government, but another to call people of a forum what you did because you don't take the same stance. Who is more wrong? Perhaps you, CLF?
  19. I used to use the standard "dumb" chargers for a long time also. But since I got my LaCrosse BC-700 "smart" charger my batteries are lasting longer in the devices that I use them in. For $30 it can't be beat. It will extend the life of the batteries and charge them to their full potential.
  20. They are not the low-self discharge batteries. Best to get the low-self discharge batteries with the 2100 mAh.
  21. I had the same issue between the Oregon 200 and the Dakota 20. Even though the memory would have been nice, a microSD card will remedy that. I like the screen size of the Oregon and the ability to have my own background pictures on the main screens. Just for that personal touch. I can't comment on the outdoor visibility of the Dakota, but I have not had too much of a problem with the Oregon. The 3-axis compass would be nice, but it was not a deal breaker for me.
  22. Does anyone know what the differences between the Oregon 200 and 300 basemaps are? I know the 300's basemap is twice the size but I don't know what the main differences are.
  23. I have the Oregon 200 and I love it. That being said, if you have a few extra bucks to spend I would go for the 450. It is newer, better updates from Garmin, and a better screen.
