  1. Is orientation still a badge or did it get eliminated? Map reading skills are a good place to start, not just for geocaching but for anyone.
  2. If there is an app for it, then it is good for finding. I don't know enough about it to make any judgment call on it specifically.
  3. Temp caches aren't published on this site, please do a forum search to see other issues related to showing young folks (Boy Scouts) other people's caches.
  4. What would be the geology or earth science lesson in that?
  5. http://coord.info/GC1F414 Uh that one has an uncleared NM log, which is one of the things that community supported caches can't have fixed. Volunteer reviewers have the ability to clear NM logs. But do they? Again curious not attacking.

  7. I see it more of a way to offer ideas in a positive manner, not just "I HATE it, change it back". I'd love to see a poll done by GS using these things, you know rate these things in order of what you'd like to see changed the most. But that is unlikely. I've been interested to see what are issues still, and what seems to have dropped off the want list. I've also been interested to see how many cachers can't pick just one.
  8. Let the owner know, over the years I've had a few stolen by trolls, if they turn up that's great, if not I can reuse the code.
  9. What about that's reasonable? What matters is the condition of the cache. It's completely irrelevant whether the owner logs in. Can you find an example of a cache that is acceptable condition that the cache owner hasn't logged in for that amount of time? I'm not picking a fight, just curious since it seemed fairly reasonable to me. almost 6 years : http://coord.info/GC1644H Well color me impressed. A kid cacher with 12 finds places an ammo can with decent coords and it is still going 7 years later (6 years after the CO stopped logging in).

  11. You should already be able to see all active caches that you've found. Do you mean a map that includes ALL your finds everywhere regardless of status?
  12. I'd be annoyed if someone put that clear of a spoiler on one of my caches, of course I'd have to remember to check the gallery once in a while.
  13. That is rated a 3 on difficulty and is a micro, probably not the best cache to start with. It also looks like it needs maintenance on a frequent basis. You really should contact the Cache Owner in the same you contacted me (you can click on their name at the top of the cache page) for hints. We can (and should) only give you general hints.
  14. Do you know how to send a link? Link the cache page. Or more information, like the address/coordinates of the cache.
  15. I can only find one cache in Michigan with Ramada in the title, it is aPremium Cache and since you're a basic member this link won't help too much. Do you mean a cache at a Ramada? If you use tabbed browsing it is at the start of the tab, you're looking for a code on the cache page that starts with GC
  16. Well this is a global game and there are a number of Ramada caches. Can you give us the GC code? The unique identifier in the upper right of the cache page.
  17. Geocaching started May 3rd, 2000 by Dave Ulmer in Oregon, or at least the idea that became geocaching. In September of that same year Jeremy Irish started his website (hint, we're using it now). What is your budget for a GPS? Do you have a smartphone?
  18. That's why we drink, I like trying to start a family every night but I am far far away from my car. It would be interesting to know how many people that did the pub thing at the block party drank and how much. I'd bet most people drove to the event, I'm sure some drove home when they shouldn't have. On a more somber note, how many were destroyed by it? My parents went last year, they drink but were so put off by the crowds that all they did was get close enough to get the code and move on. I'm guessing this wasn't that uncommon of a reaction to the crowds.
  19. I've brought my kids up to the pub many times. I bring the baby if I'm only going in to say hi to people and not planning to stay. I bring my teenagers if there's a band playing that they like. On the weekends during football season my husband may bring up one of our kids to watch the game and have some lunch. Nobody has ever seemed to find this strange. On the contrary, I find it strange to think that alcohol is somehow so evil or dangerous that kids can't even go into a building where it is being produced, sold, or consumed. As for liability, who is usually liable when someone drinks too much and acts foolish? Why does the connection to geocaching make any difference? How many pubs or bars have been sued successfully after a patron left drunk and got into an accident? Quite a few. Do you honestly believe that in the US people are actually accountable for their actions when a lawyer can come in and sue a business for lots of money? Exclude the US and you've got far fewer issues. True, but that's where GS is. No that is where the company is headquartered. There is a distinction.

  21. And a good number of brew pubs also make their own rootbeer. Or at least in Colorado a number of them do. Most of the world doesn't have an issue with children of any age in a pub.
  22. I think the assumption that all places that serve alcohol are family unfriendly is a false assumption, so I don't personally see the issue of a winery. Also remember that while this is a family friendly activity, it is not an activity aimed at children.
  23. Go for it. They can also get a free PM to use to keep an eye on things. My home town the local Fire Department has a cache on their back porch, the police don't but new chief and all that jazz.
  24. Maybe it is time for the cache to be archived...
  25. But what constitutes "abandoned"? If people are finding it, and it's not in bad shape (conditions which would eventually lead to it's archival by an astute reviewer anyway), why archive it for the sake of archiving it? There are plenty of places I'd like to put caches that are already occupied... should I request that they be archived simply because those cache owners starting caching before I did? After all, it's "not fair" that there's already a cache in the area I wanted to place one. Maybe they only check on the cache every few months, or once a year, or once every other year... does that really effect the quality of the cache? If it's a good container, and a good hide, and a good location... theoretically you should NEVER have to check on it again. Unless, of course, there's several DNF or "Needs Maintenance" logs... which would go unheeded... which will lead to it's eventual archival ANYWAY. In another thread the suggestion was caches who's owners haven't logged into the site in 3 years should have their caches disabled then archived in 6 months. Seems fairly reasonable to me.
