  1. Just found it nice to see that the sun may be starting to shine on the horizon.... "Bring Back Virtuals"
  2. Simply put, fulfill the "logging requirements", after looking at both pic plus questions be answered. Without it, people may try "armchair logging". My personal opinion... ALL Earthcaches should have a PHOTO REQUIRED to log them, but that is an entire different argument.
  3. I immediately recognized the menitoning of the Grassy Knoll and had to go look it up both on gc.com and on the Waymarking. After looking there, I looked around my home area too. It is a bit odd to have the exact same place listed multiple times. I personally havent got into the waymarks myself either, and I FULLY support the bringing back of "Virtuals" or to do a new category as you mentioned. Simply Put... I think this is a GREAT IDEA!!!!. I know others may complain saying this may be a dead horse, etc etc... But if it keeps being mentioned, maybe it is time to give it some SERIOUS consideration to bring back the virtuals. Put a poll out on Facebook, send out a survey to all registered users of gc.com, etc. See what the people think and if they would like to see the virtuals come out of hibernation. Just had to drop my 2 cents worth. Maybe, just maybe.. I can start submitting some of my own virtuals in the near future.
  4. Here is the site that I use as my cheat guide for writing a cache in html... http://www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk/resources/htmlcodes.html For the coordinate checker, the two that I use are, the first below is my preferred; http://geocheck.org/index.php or http://www.geochecker.com/ .............................................................. To get a feel of how it is looking, you will have to "edit listing", and checking the 2 boxes at the bottom multiple times until you get it just right. It will take some practice, but once you do a few, it is a breeze from there.
  5. Saw this in the forums and figured I would check it out. As an active USAF member stationed in South Dakota, I made my way with the majority of these rather easily. We were having a base exercise, So I decided this was a perfect project while in the command center in MOPP 4 (wearing gas mask, etc). K and N took a bit more searching as I was not familiar with either. For O, I questioned whether it was operational or not. But quickly deciphered that one. I think your difficulty is right on, and it is a very well designed cache. If I was to change anything at all, I would adjust K and N to American aircraft to keep the theme of it together. Too bad I am in SD, or else I would surely have grab this one as a nice find. Great Job!!.

    Harney Peak

Moderate hike is the best description. We hiked it a few weeks back with 14 people in our group, to include my 15 and 9 y/o's. So, they 9 y/o would be just fine. There is a few big drops, but as long as everyone basically sticks together it isnt an issue. Just be mindful of them once up near the fire tower as there are more drops up there. Of course there are other nice trails out here to enjoy, but if you are here, hike Harney, do the Earthcache up there and enjoy the hike. From the Sylvan trail head was roughly 7.2 miles. Make sure you have plenty of water (Camelbak), and there are no "official" bathrooms once you leave Sylvan. Total hike time is roughly 5 hrs. Hope this info helps.
  7. As a cacher of 85+ hides, I have done this once before, lol. It varies significantly on the review process because the publishers are volunteers. A few weeks back I submitted a new cache, and it took 4 days to get published. Yesterday morning, I submitted a cache, and it was published within 15-20 minutes, I was shocked, yet pleased. Just make sure the "cache active" button is checked and you include a reviewer note that may answer any questions they may have. If it is a multi or puzzle, make sure you include the waypoints (only make them visible to everyone if you want) as that is something the Reviewer will ask about. When you place a "sneaky", maybe raise the difficulty level a little bit. Ensure you honestly answer the "guide" questions, that should put you on base to what you should rate the cache at. If you want to use "html" in your listings, this is the generic site I use as a reference... HTML Quick Reference It surely is a wonderful and fun "Sport/Game" that we enjoy as well. Hope this information helps you.
  8. Of course there is nothing wrong with what you did to it as a listing. I would agree, keep the purple part in the synopsis. See how close of attention people pay to the listing as a whole. If you get more DNF's, maybe raise the difficulty a little. Great job!!.
  9. This one surely violated the rules of "burying a cache", but I did enjoy it as a find. Made it rather difficult with the snow/brush covering it up. Heard the hollowness when I stepped on it. Neat one to say the least though. Image 1 / Image 2
  10. Back to your original question, Get them into circulation!. That sounds like a super cool trade item that would be much appreciated as swag by most people, kids and adults included. To offend someone?, sure.. someone may take offense, but that isnt a concern at all in my opinion. If you make it up into western SD, I would be honored to have a few dropped in any of my caches. On that same note, I planted "The Answer Is - GC23X9Z" , and I may catch some flack about it because of being at the entrance to a Bible Ranch, but that is OK. Happy Caching!!.
  11. I should be available on the 25th to serve as "tour guide", that just sounds funny, anyways-- will PM you contact information and we can work out a plan for doing some caching.
  12. I believe this makes me have a few extra questions to try and steer you with some direction... 1- How much walking/hiking do you want to do? 2- Do you have transportation or will you need a chaffeur/guide? 3- How much time do you have available to get out and do some caching? 4- Are you just interested in numbers, or do want the scenic views of the Rapid area?
  13. The one from my vehicles; Current GOAL: To explore and cache the United States. If you see me driving around, feel free to log me and let me know where you saw me. About this item: This will be on my vehicle and will be along for all caching that Docster68 and family venture out on.
  14. Ive made a decent list of different containers/places over the last few months. Hope these help generate some ideas. Sprinkler Heads; Lowes/Menards/HomeDepot, etc. Place bison in the bottom. Reflector Magnets; Lowes/Menards/HomeDepot, etc. Lock n Locks; JCpenney, Target, Walmart, Military BX/PX Peanut Butter Containers; As you use them (one of my absolute Favs to use). Soak in water to breakdown PB. Double wash before placing. Matchstick Holder (Walmart- Sporting goods, $1 ea) Nano's; Ebay Birdhouse; Make them, or even have neighborhood kids make them. Seal seams with weatherproof sealer. Place PB container or similar inside if desired. Pill Containers; Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, etc.. Or find someone that takes alot if meds. Fence Post Cap; Lowes/Menards/HomeDepot, etc. Ammo Can; Currently in high demand and hard to locate, but Army/Navy Surplus or Ebay. (dont pay more than $7-8 each). Water Bottle; Clearance rows at the big box stores. Soup Carriers; Clearance rows at the big box stores. Film Containers; Walgreens, Walmart, CVS. Flaw is not usually watertight, and cant rely on a ziploc. I try to use only black ones because spray paint will wear off. Secure with a rock/along fence post, etc. Mint Tins; As you or others use them. Key Holders; Any big box stores. Another favorite use. Protein (Workout Supplements) Plastic; Have people that workout save their containers. Double wash before use. Powder milk mix containers (for choco/strawberry milk) For any of those that would require a ziploc, make it into a skirt lifter (I know, I know.. some people hate skirt lifters, sorry). There is also tons of websites that sell different types/sizes of containers. Hope this helps.
  15. If you plan on hitting M-Hill, I would recommend to do all of those in the Cowboy Hill area on the same day. Start with Furball #6, Founders Rock, Cowboys Table, Cowboy Hill NW, Finding Nemo, M-Hill and an Afternoon Stroll (in that order). Then go across street and do RC Roswell #2 and Kick and Sticks. I would probably wait for the true hiker ones of those to have the snow subside a bit, will help with following the paths that are already made for you. Make sure to take a camera for up there, awesome views!!.
  16. I personally see no problem in logging it as a find at all. My theory is simple, if you were willing to put the work into hiding, setting it up, writing it up, maintaining it, the list goes on. Therefore, I see no problem in logging it. I do personally wait until at least 10 or so people have found the cache, that way the people that are in dire love/need of having a FTF, STF, etc.. all have a chance to log the cache.
