  1. My wife came home from a candle party and told me she knew what she wanted to get me for Fathers Day (which was still a month away). She wanted to tell me but I wouldn't let her. She finally talked me into it and she said she wanted to get me a GPS. I said, "Ok!" She hadn't told me why but I just thought it'd be cool. She kind of explained GeoCaching to me and I was intrigued. We decided that we'd go out and get a GPSr and then between then and Fathers Day we'd learn how to use it. We'd then go out on Fathers Day and do some caching. We went out a couple days later and bought a Etrex Legend. The following day she and I found our first 3 caches. We took the kids out a couple days later and found 5 with them! We've been hooked ever since.
  2. I finally am! Thanks Santa. I just never felt that I had the extra money. It always seemed like the money shoud be going somewhere else, you know, bills and such. I first joined GeoCaching.com in May of this year. I've had a blast and wanted to become a paying member just to support the site. Finally did.
  3. I got a window mount and power cord along with a Premium Membership. Now I feel like I'm really 'official'. Also, two more cachers added to the family. Both my brother and sister got GPSr's so I expect to see their families out soon.
  4. My wife came home from a party where she had run into the head of Schmidt-Family. He mentioned GeoCaching to her and she came home all excited about it. It was about a month before Father's Day and she told me she knew what she wanted to get me for Father's Day and wanted to tell me about it. She has always had a bad habit of this (not being able to wait for gifts). Well, she finally talked me into letting her tell me what it was and if I didn't like it, she'd do something else. She told me she wanted to get me a GPSr. I said, "Ok". You see, I'd always wanted one but never had a good enough reason to convince her that I needed it. But since she wanted me to have one, that was all the convincing that needed to be done. Anyway, she hadn't even told me about GeoCaching yet so she kept talking. As she told me about it, I thought it sounded like it'd be fun. So we decided that we'd shop around for a GPSr and during the next month we could 'learn how to use it' and then on Father's Day we would go and do some GeoCaching. Two days later we bought a Garmin Legend and the day after that the two of us went out and found our first three caches. Two days later we went out again, this time with our kids, and we snagged five more. We were hooked from the first day. Kind of had a little setback after an incident from a GeoCaching trek but I should be healed back up soon. (This light-duty stuff really sucks!)
  5. My wife came home from a party and told me about GeoCaching from someone there. It sounded interesting to me but I wasn't positive I was going to be head over heels about it. Therefore, I didn't want to spend alot of money on a GPSr if I wasn't going to be using it much. I bought a refurbished Garmin E-trex Legend. After a few months I started having a problem with the display. It just wasn't working right. I could tell the insides were still working but it was just too difficult to read. I called up Garmin and told them of my problem and the customer service agent talked me through a couple 'fixes' over the phone to see if I could fix it here. When that didn't work, he had me send it in. I packaged it up and sent it in the next day. It's replacement came back within a week and a half. At first I wasn't sure if there'd be a problem since it was a refurbished unit but there was never any problem. I was very impressed with the customer service from Garmin.
  6. I ran into a cache recently that is in dire need of repair. There have been several log entries stating that it needs attention but nothing's been done. I sent off an e-mail (about 5 mins ago) to the cache owner. I checked his profile and saw that he last signed on here almost two months ago. I'm really not expecting to get a reply from him. I've thought about replacing the container and log book and fixing it up a bit, but I don't want to do too much and overstep my boundaries. I've heard that others have 'adopted' a cache that wasn't being taken care of. My question is, at what point would you suggest this to the cache owner and how's the most tactful way of doing this? Any and all suggestions would be helpful.
  7. I'll take it!!!...if my name gets drawn, I reckon. I'm still new to this and finally found a post that I felt qualified to respond to. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Rhinofang
