  1. You want to create multiple copies of a PQ that covers the entire island using a center point and a radius (I did that below for you). In your first PQ, select placed date from the earliest possible to whatever date gives you close to 1000 caches. In your second PQ, use that date + 1 to a new date that gives you close to 1000 caches Repeat until you have all the caches. In your last PQ, select a date in the future. See http://markwell.us/pq.htm#tips for an alternate explanation. OK you got me intrigued, so I experimented with http://www.freemaptools.com/radius-around-point.htm Edit : found a better tool : http://www.mapdevelopers.com/draw-circle-tool.php - and this circle seems to work : Position: (48.25947023513176, -54.15538164999998), Radius: 402335.00 Meters Center your PQ at N 48 15.568 W 54 09.323 and pick a radius of 250 miles. You can refine the coordinates if you wish. I created a PQ, see if you can access it : http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/gcquery.aspx?guid=9b15a8ea-b501-4d2b-ae10-a1c4a79cdb93 The date I selected is Jan 1, 1999 - Jan 9, 2009 for 999 caches. And this is what I get : I started to think along these lines after I posted, but you certainly put a fine point on the solution for which I thank you! In all, it took 6 queries to get me to the end of this 2014 so far. Good times!
  2. I live on the island of Newfoundland, in Canada - a bit South and West of Greenland. My issues are below: http://coord.info/map?ll=48.944494,-58.065933&z=7 -------> Added after posting for clarity. It seems odd that this view can 'show' all caches on the island, but I can't create a query that gets the same complete set of results. More than 1000 caches on the island which exceeds a PQ limit Creating multiple possibly overlapping, or gapped PQs results in cache duplicates, or missing caches There is no easy way to remove duplicates, and very cumbersome to confirm if I have gaps A solution workable on a Mac is preferred, if possible. I travel all over the island at any given time with 2 GPSr units, and would really like to simply have a single file to load to each unit periodically. The simple solution is to raise the results limit, or simply live with duplicates in my GPSr units, but that is lame. Any suggestions are appreciated, and I welcome the opportunity for this old dog to learn a new trick.

    Back roads maps

V4 looks great! I was really hoping that they would have Newfoundland (island) coverage. I sent an email asking that very question. Let's see what comes back.
  4. I have and Iphone that I no longer use and I purchased the GC app. I now have an Android and want the app - can I transfer my license or do I have to purchase the application again? Thanks, Tyson
  5. Alright! I SOOOOO did not quad post! UGH! Tra la la....
  6. 2 years too late! I lived in Windsor for 37 years but recently had to relocate to Newfoundland. Good luck finding a cache partner. There are lots of cachers in Windsor and certainly on the other side of the ditch in warzone D. We had a big CITO event a few years back and there must have been about 125 cachers that showed up. I am certain that you will find someone relatively soon. Tyson

  10. Great as an external GPS source for your phone, or laptop, or PDA. $30, or with my Colorado 300 in trade for an Oregon (I posted yesterday). Thanks, Tyson
  11. My unit is in great condition. I just want to give the Oregon a try with the touch screen. Unit comes with 1 GB SD card, Topo Canada V 4, and ibycus, if you want it. I am located in Central Newfoundland, Canada. Thanks, Tyson
  12. If you would like to start in the North (very) East, I can drop a bug into one of my caches in Central Newfoundland - just type Newfoundland into Google maps. Let me know, Tyson
  13. I have now placed the TB into my cache in Newfoundland. It took a bit longer than I had anticipated due to the holidays. I hope that the bugs get their jobs done. Tysonb
  14. For whale watching in St. John's, I have often spotted them from Signal Hill, but I suggest that you get a decent set of binoculars for that. The best place for whales and icebergs is in Twillingate, about 4.5 hours west of St. John's. I can't provide any guidance on puffins, however. Tysonb
  15. I am in Central Newfoundland (Bishop's Falls) and can put the TB into one of my area caches if you like, or if you are patient, I can bring it with me to St. John's when I go there in about 6 weeks. Either way, I am happy to help. You can check my caches or the caches near me and let me know into which one you would like your TB to be placed. Thanks, Tyson tyson.baldwin@gmail.com
  16. I have a Garmin Colorado 300 in excellent condition up for trade for an Oregon 300. I also have Topo Canada V2 and V4 as well as the ibycus topo maps. Get in touch with me if you would like to trade - trades only for an Oregon, please. Thanks, Tyson tysonDOTbaldwinATgmailDOTcom
  17. ".......and the performance hit to the site....." Seriously?! Sheesh, get another server already or upgrade the current one(s). Weak, very weak.
  18. Any surveyor would be using a type of GPS that is more accurate than what us civilians/consumers use. I don't have the time to turn this thread into a GPS lesson so just hit up the usual suspects like google and wikipedia with terms like surveyor GPS and GPS accuracy. Some of the info you will come up with is pretty heady, but simply know this: surveyors and the military have reason and need to be more accurate than civilians/consumers.
  19. Is there any interest in having a geocache get together in Central Newfoundland some time this month? I am thinking either Grand Falls-Windsor, or Gander. It could be anything from a meet and greet, swap meet, to a planning session for further activities. My thought for timing would is later this month (April, 2009). Post here to show your interest. Thanks, Tyson
  20. This is great work! I would love to be able to do this for Newfoundland for everyone that uses GPS including geocachers. On a side note, you may want to reach out to snowmobile associations, cross country groups and Mountain bike clubs to see if you can get any other tracks added to your collection. tBal
  21. Writer, Thanks for your reply - I will use this if no one else has a better idea to share here Tyson
  22. As stated above, when I download the .loc files into my gpsr (garmin 60c), all of the waypoints (listed as <type>Geocache</type> in the XML string) show ups as simple flags, instead of geocaches in my handheld. I would prefer that they automatically show up as geocaches. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tyson
  23. Um... that makes sense Thanks for the replies. Tyson
  24. no button there.... any suggestions? Tyson
  25. Hello, I am new to the activity, but fairly good online. I have been unable to see where to log finds on the GC.com site. I have registered, verified, and downloaded waypoints from the site and onto my GPSr. I have even cleared my cache to ensure that there wasn't some goofy error occurring. I am going crazy, and I am fairly certain that I am just overlooking something simple. I have waited for 5 days to even post this from embarassment, but I am at my wit's end. Please post the step by step to log a find here for my edification, and that of any other hapless soul searching for the same thing. Thanks, Tyson
