  4. I would like to get the PQ results in GPX format instead ot a ZiP file. Earlier, i could select in the PQ "creating" process, to get the PQ results in an email with the GPX file. That seems not possible anymore. Is the a way around this? With the GPX file in the mail, I can directly doubleclick the linkn right in the mail in order to load it in GSAK. Now, I have first to unzip the file, and in a second step load it in GSAK. Anyone, any advice? Thanks Tom
  5. It's also the same problem for me in Switzerland, the change of the language in the preferences doesn't persist. Please fix this bug, thanks! Tom

  7. Who can help me! When I enter the address of my homepage in my profile, it automatically creates the link http://www.geocaching.com/controls/www.cachingtom.ch'>http://www.geocaching.com/controls/www.cachingtom.ch instead of only www.cachingtom.ch The http://www.geocaching.com/controls/ part of the automated address entry returns an error message. How can I avoid that this wrong addition to my homepage address is inserted? It is rather annoying that it is impossible to access my homepage via my profile

  9. I was the first FSNI (Foreign Service National Investigator) at the American Embassy in Switzerland. After I quit after almost 20 years in the security business, I have now a much less spectacular job. I am now a call agent for the Swiss TCS, the equivalent of the American AAA, a nationwide road side assistance organisation. It might be less spectacular, but it is definitely cheaper for the American tax payer, as I was on the payroll of the Departement of State. So, be happy that I quit!
  10. I have a step-by-step tutorial with screenshots on my website geocaching tutorials Good luck! Tom

    Tutorials

I set up some pages on my personal website about geocaching. Among others, there is a page with tutorials, illustrated with screenshots, on handlig different programs and websites. All texts, explanations or comments are written in Englih, German and French (throughout my whole website). If you look for how-to's, have a look at geocaching tutorials. If you wish some more tutorials or other help. let me know, I will gladly imply them asap. Now good luck with your new or newly discovered hobby! Happy caching Tom
  12. I definitely think, you will find some GPS for less or around $100, but including the maps, it might be much more difficult. What I would suggest is that you put posts in forums, check garage sales or other places, Sometimes people give up geocaching or buy newer maps, so it's possible that you find the maps either quite cheap or possibly even for free. Good luck in finding, what you're looking for! I know very well myself, what it means, not to have too much money to spend. Tom
  13. HotSync the pdb file to the Palm itself instead of the SD card and try again. If this helps, fine and good luck, if not let me know Regards Tom
  14. Hi there I would strongly recommend to check GSAK Forum?. I'm pretty sure, you will find all the needed answers. People there are also very helpful Regards Tom
  15. Welcome to you all to the game and in the caching community! Enjoy your new hobby as we all do. Happy caching!! Tom
  16. For the last 3 years, I only used the Meridian Platinum and was very happy with it. The customer care problems, you are talking about, must hae occured in the US or other countries, as here in Switzerland, Magellan and its resellers did a great job! Therefore, I also used it as avatar The only two reasons, I switched to the 60CSX unit were that it has a newer, more accurate chipset and that I've got a little heritage, so I could afford it. I still use the MeriPlat as backup unit, to lend it out to newbies at geocaching, or if muggle buddies are intereseted in coming along on a caching tour, and have themselves have the WOW experience, when they find the cache. Even with the older chipset, I had readings of 1 meter or less to the cache with the Magellan unit. So to me, the MeriPlat is still a viable and very good solution, especially for beginners, and I will not sell it, as it is a reliable backup. BTW, I don't have the topo maps or city navigator, as I am doing all my caching by public transportation (in Switzerland mostly trains and busses), except when a fellow cacher or buddy gives me a ride to a location. The 60CSx works just fine with the basic maps. For the MeriPlat, I do have maps, but I almost never upload the map to the GPS
  17. Yes, the password is ok, all other changes are updated correctly Are you wrapping the info your trying to add in some HTML? This site uses HTML tidy and it tries to correct some HTML code and will even eliminate some. Try again but without any HTML. No. I am not wrapping it in HTML, I enter it in the appropriate box in the profile
  18. Yes, the password is ok, all other changes are updated correctly
  19. I tried several times to enter the address of my personal homepage into my profile, but everytime, I hit the "Update account" button, the address is deleted and not displayed in my profile! Why is that? Is this a bug, or did I something wrong, or has this feature been disabled? Please advise Thanks tastom
  20. First of all, welcome to the game! As for the PDA, I don't know too much about yours, I am using the Palm LifeDirve with 4G storage. For the software, I recommend to use GSAK for your desktop/laptop, this is a most useful geocaching database, into which you can download the .loc or .gpx files from GC.som. There are tremendous possbilities to filter and manage your caches. For the PDA, I recommend, as already suggested previously, CacheMate. You can download your cache files directily from GC.com, or, as I do it, hotsync the selected files from GSAK to the Palm. If you download .gpx files (a premium member feature), you get on your PDA the cache description, overview, previous logs and of course, also the hints. I hope, this helps Good luck, and happy caching! Thomas
  21. Thank you all for your answers, but my problem is still not solved. I don't get the uploaded Caches (from GSAK or Swisstopo, which is a Swiss mapping software) into the Geocache folder of the the unit. Where can I adjust the settings for this to happen? In my GPSr or in GSAK?
  22. I messed up with costum icons on my GPSr. I tried to restore the factory settings, but it seems not to work properly. So, now I am wondering, how I can get the cache uploads again to be displayed in the Geocache folder, along with the possibility to register the find in the calender and to have the next nearest cache proposed for the hunt. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks tastom
  23. Actually, in most cases it's both. All the events I have been to had caches in the vicinity, and either you go on your own to find them, or some cachers team up for the hunt.

    Profile

The OTHER changes I made were updated, so there is no password problem, I could do that. It's only the two fields "Personal Homepage" and "ADDRESS LINE 2" which do not seem to work

    Profile

Hi Andrew Nope, didn't help. As for item 2, this is not a problem, I have the remember-me cookie installed, and the profile is updated correctly, except for the URL and the second address line Thomas
