  1. Just wanted to let everyone know, though most of you probably do, that there is a new web browser that was just released called FireFox . It was brought about by thoundsands of independent programers and designers for the purpose of being a more secure alternative to MS Internet Explorer. Besides the fact that it is much more secure and has popup blocking software built in it has a lot of cool features like the ability to open up new browsing window "tabs" in the same window which helps prevent clutter on your task bar. And there are ton of add-ons and skins that make FireFox completely customizable! Anyway, like I said just wanted to share. Since most of us use the Internet quite a bit for our geocaching obsession I thought this might be useful.
  2. Mine is a nickname my friends gave me. My first name is Jason so obviously that is where the "J" comes in. My second name starts with the letter W so thanks to our current President they started calling me "J Dubya". Eventually it got shortened to what it is today. Nothing too exciting.
  3. I agree with jdoe. I think the geocaching community needs to rethink the placement of caches especially in hi traffic urban areas. I placed my first cache today in a wooded urban park. J Dub's Sweet Spot I had to park in a hospital parking lot and cross a fairly busy street to hide it. It was in an ammo box and as I got ready to cross the street I thought "hmm...somebody might see me take this into the woods and assume it's a drug stash or something." Fortunately, I had a backpack in my car so I used it to transport the cache into the park. It seemed like overkill at the time, but now I'm glad I did. It sucks that we have to think this way now, but people are a lot more paranoid than they used to be. It's a post 9/11 world for sure. I have found a couple caches in public areas. I got some funny looks from passersby as I dug around in bushes, but I never thought that someone might report me for "suspicious activity". I think from now on for the most part I will stick to caches off the beaten path. I don't want to be part of any police interogations.
  4. Congratulations on turning 26! It's not a bad age, although it means you are on the downward slope to 30.
  5. Thanks, Vree! I'm glad someone recognizes quality entertainment. And the Trogdor comes in the night!!!
  6. I'm 26 also, although, I am married. But no kids yet. I'm still too much of a kid myself. The wife says she doesn't need another kid right now. One is enough!
  7. GrizzlyJohn, are you from Maryland? I noticed your avatar looks like part of the Maryland state flag. I grew up in MD. Just curious.
  8. Cool! Thanks for the info. I've been looking for something like this for a while.
  9. I'm fairly new to geochaching, but I'm already hooked. I have read a lot of forum posts and other things on the GC.com site looking for info and tips for begginers. I noticed that it seems there are a lot of older cachers and families with kids, but I have seen very few cachers in the 20s age range. Being in this age group myself I was curious if there are many college age cachers. If I'm the only one it wouldn't bother me. I'm used to being an independant guy anyway.
  10. Yeah, Basel jumps quite a bit especially when I get home from work. He has TONS of energy. I try to wear him out at the park, but he usually wears me out first.
  11. Jeez, Dog, you sound quite mischevious. Hopefully I won't fall victim to one of your cemetary "squirrel" catches. I have a Jack Russel terrier named Basel. He hasn't found any caches with me yet, but he will have his chance soon enough. Maybe you two could be friends.
  12. Patrick, bring your cache-sniffing dog to Indy to find my cache. I'll hide it well to give you and your dog a real test.
  13. Thanks, Patrick, that brings up a good point. I haven't been using a gps for very long. Sometimes it's accurate to within 15 feet and sometimes it's only good to within 50'. What should I do if I hide my cache and it's not very accurate do to trees getting in the way or something? Any advice on how to get a better read? Thanks!
  14. LOL! Thanks for the advice, Dave. I'll keep it in mind.
  15. Yeah, I plan on finding some more before I hide one of my own. I found another cache today. Great hiding spot. It gave me some ideas.
  16. West Baden is awesome! I went there with my wife a couple years ago and we loved it. Felt like we had gone back in time. BTW, thanks, Team Tigger! I already found an awesome spot for a potential cache. Maybe I'll hide one there in the near future.
  17. I found my first cache today and I've got the fever! A very fun and rewarding hobby. I can't wait to find the next one. I might even try to hide one in the next few weeks after I've found a few more.
  18. I'm from Indianapolis. Brand new to the sport and lovin it!

Hi everyone! I'm brand spanking new to this sport. I just found out about it 2 days ago while surfing around the internet. It looks awesome and I can't wait to start. I live in Indianapolis, IN. I found a great little spot by my house that would be perfect for a cache. I'll probably hide one there in a couple days. Any tips for a beginner would be apreciated. Thanks! -J Dub
