I'm new too and this was a good thread and might keep me from making some mistakes. Zen them are some good hints which I think I will try on my compass.

I have an etrex and want a pc interface cable. garmin's cables are expencive and I have found some cheaper on Ebay. Good ratings for the seller but can I rely on them? I'm guessing I need software to run them also? All are the 9 pin serial ports. Are there any for usb2 without having to get an adapter from the serial port to usb2? Is this the way I should go?
