  1. Wow, that is some out of the box thinking. I wasn't so worried about overlapping areas since GSAK would take care of that for me. I did have a concern about missing some since radius's are round and won't overlap everywhere. Miragee, the way you do it will keep my PQ's to a minimum. Date place PQ's sound much easier then experimenting with zips codes. Thanks so much for explaining it to me. I think I will try it. I'm sure as tme goes on you need to adjust the dates but that sound easier then shifing around zips. Thnaks again.
  2. Miragee,Could you explain what you mean by "Date Placed" PQ's. I have an idea but this looks like a chance for me to learn something. I am in the process of setting up a bunch of PQ's for my GSAK database to cover most of the area I might normally cache in. A link to a discussion on this would be fine since I see you probably know this forum well.
  3. Did you edit and resubmit the same pocket query? If so it won't run till next week (or tomorrow, if you checked that day as well) since it already ran on Saturday this week. You need to make a copy of your pocket query and submit that. The system will see this as a new pocket query and it should run in just a few minutes. I edited the name and location thinking it would be a new query.
  4. THey never did show up in my Gmail so I just downloaded 5 pages of loc files off the search pages they generated. I did generate a PQ and it came in the mail. On the next zip code I wanted to look up I didn't navigate back to the main PQ page because I thought as long as I changed the name of the PQ and some of the settings it would be a new PQ that would be sent to my mailbox. Both the ones that never made it to my mailbox still generated the search pages so I had the settings right. I guess my question is... After generating a PQ do I have to navigate back to the main PQ page and hit the "Create a new query" in order to get it to my mailbox?
  5. I was trying to do a cache along a route. I submitted a PQ over an hour ago but am still waiting so I thought I'd post it on the forum even tough I know it's been brought up many time before. I wanted it for tomorow but it looks like I won't be getting it done since I have plans tonight. I make mistakes so I resubmit but I guess the servers are to busy with "Where I go" and "Waymarking." I sure hope all the people that haven't supported GC.com by becoming a premiium member appreciate my money going to fund these projects instead of it going to fixing the problem with what is important to me.
  6. My last 3 caches I made MEMBERS ONLY just for the heck of it for a couple of months. I always wondered if there were any perks. I might just change one of the caches back. Just for the heck of it. THanks everyone for the clarification.
  7. My cache page had a link that let me see who veiwed it, when and how many times but the link is gone now. It was a "Members only Cache." I found out I couldn't change it to public cache since my Groundspeak subscription had expired last week so I renewed my membership. I went to look for the link again and it's nowhere to be found. Is this "who visited" link on a members only caches?

    Glbt?

HA HA HA I've never seen him move so fast.
  9. Needed to do some maintenance today and found a few in the snow
  10. That is the important thing. Some people seem to care more about the numbers of their hides rather than the quality. There's nothing better than to have a person with high numbers write a 2 paragragh log on how good or different your cache is. That happened to me last week and although not many paople have found the cache it made it worth the time setting it up.
  11. I'd log it if you think you deserve it. We all have to live with our own numbers.
  12. OK, Mopar got me thinking and I went and did a little checking on one person with an alias. This person puts out caches under 2 different names which have the same profile. That's why I thought you could have 2 names. I've come to the conclusion, when submitting a cache you can fill in the "placed by" box with whatever name you want. THis person sets caches using his AKA name every so often and that's what lead me to believe you could have 2 names to one account. I'll just draw my little fish picture or use as many letters of my name that will fit on the cache log. Thanks everyone for your input. What I thought was strange was, when I did a "Look up another player" on his AKA name I got this The user selected has invalidated his or her account. You cannot send email to this user. When I typed jiberish in, nothing came up.
  13. That's a good idea. Maybe I should just change this topic to; How do you sign your 20 character name in a nano log
  14. Thank you for finding that for me. But.......... I don't want to change my name, I want to have a new name linked to my current account. That page looked like it was for changing your name and not for creating a new name link to your current name and account. I know many people have more than one name linked to their account but I never saw the need to do it until recently. If I read that link page wrong please correct me. This really isn't that important but if I use initials, and the owner does go through the cache log with a fine tooth comb, the shorter name linked to my account might avoid some confusion and a possible deletion of a find.
  15. That's kind of what I do now. I really don't think many cross check the logs anyway. I've even drew a little fish on some of the logs.
  16. Groundspeak doesn't seem to let someone create a new name linked to their account anymore which I understand. Is there anyway I can create a new name linked to my account. I'd like to have a shorter name so it would be easier to log all these new micros and nanos coming out. Some of the logs in them are pretty small. Can I request it from Groundspeak or something?
  17. I wanted to say thanks for that info. It will come in handy soon. The paper here has contacted us (Gem CIty Geocacher) and wants to do a story just about geocaching and wants to interview a "family" that geocaches. THanks again Kenny
  18. Our club did a Geo101 presentation at a park event and the local paper interviewed some of our members. they ran an article about it but I don't know who to contact to get it onto the weekly bot mailer? It's mainly about the "GearFest" but starts with geocaching and refers to it and us a few times. It's always good to get a plug in for your club. Here is the article if someone in the know wants to add it to the mailer if it's geocache worthy.
  19. Congrats Katie. Now can you help me get there?
  20. If you geocache up this way come and get them earings and I just might go caching with ya.
  21. OK I figured it out. Evidently you have to do some kind of edit on the bug page in order for it to show up to drop. I didn't think one had to do anything to a bug to set it on it's way. Well you live and learn I guess
  22. when I go to drop off a TB I just activated (TB#tbgpek) it not in the inventory when I go to log on that cache. The other bugs I have show up. The TB I activated shows in my inventory when I look at "My account". It even shows up when I search the tracking number or the reference number. On the TB's page it shows me as the owner. What can I do?
  23. I went to the Mapsource page and looked at some. they looked pretty good but some got pretty expencive. I'm guessing that they will tell you when to turn if going by road.I had already gone to look at some and I did find "National Geographic's Backroads Explorer" that I think will do fine for me (for now). Not sure how comptable it will be with my new eTrex legend but it seems to do everything I want it to and I got it on sale for $40. I haven't tried to upload a map to my Garmin or not sure if it will but it seems great for downloading waypoints and tracks. It's even a topo map which is really cool to this newby. Still got alot of playing to do with it though. Thanks for the input
  24. Ok I went ahead and ordered the cable and looked at and downloaded some of the free software. I do plan on useing my laptop although it's been fine just useing a printout. Sonn I think I might upgrade to a better GPS after I see whet they can do and if I need better features. Although I can't see spending $400 on one. I hear good things about the legend but I'll need to look at some screen shots to see if it's uploaded maps will be good enough for me. Thanks again for all the great input.
