  1. Got the Garmin 76s yesterday afternoon. It's looks new as you stated and works great. Within 5 hours I had done the unit set-up, downloaded cache waypoints in my area to Gsak and then to the gpsr and went out and found my first 2 caches before dark. On the second cache the unit lead me to within 4 ft. of the cache. Thanks for the deal Rodney and for talking with me on the phone to answer questions before the buy. It was a smooth, honest and fast transation.
  2. I thought that with the 60cs all you had to do is attach a long leash and the unit will lead you to the cache
  3. Here is a good link for comparing unit features/specs. at Offroute.com, they also sell GPS. After much research and debate I bought mine (Garmin Map76s) from another Groundspeak club member right here,,see the Garage Sale posts here at Groundspeak. Local sporting goods stores/department stores sell gps, and garmin is giving a $30 rebate on some models. It seem that more geocachers like Garmin and have raved about the Garmin support, they seem to fix or replace units to keep the customer happy, at least that is what I have read. http://www.offroute.com/gps-compare.html It's such a brain traumatizing experience trying to decide
  4. Thanks for the input. I was almost ready to go with the Meri Gold but after much research and debate (with my own brain) I came to the tortured decision to buy a used Garmin Map76s from a fellow club member. Hope to get it this Friday and get to work:)
  5. Consider it sold. As I mentioned in my email, I will do paypal and am ready to make the payment now. I won't be back on the computer until late afternoon now but will check my email when I get home. Also sent you an email about shipping/delivery-address options. It might be easier to talk on the phone to finalize the shipping options. I can give you my phone# in a separate email or if you prefer, I can call you. Thanks, Tom
  6. I'm new to geocaching and want to get a GPSr that will last me awhile. I'm looking at the Garmin Legend or Magellan Gold with memory card. Most people geocaching seem to recommend Garmin but, does the Legend have enough memory to download plenty of maps, both topo and city? I think the Legend give you 8MB of free-space for download. What are the MB requirements for Mapsource topo---and cityguide? I may be in the trees alot since i live in a forest. Is the Magellan Gold better in areas with heavy tree cover due to different antenna type. Help from anyone with experience with these particular units would be appreciated. Planning to make by decision real soon and want to be happy with the gps i buy for my needs. Use in trees/forest. Adequate memory space for plenty o' maps. Ease of use, nice display, etc... Thanks, Tom Any other recommendations?? while keeping the price within reason.
