  1. I have heard....that you need to get some sort of permit to do that series of caches. True?
  2. Have fun out there and be careful. We hope to get out there by February. December is too busy right now.
  3. I would try flat caches.... metal switchplates and magnetic labels work well. The safest method would be to get permission from the property owner before hiding the geocache. At least then, there's a good chance that the owner will tell everyone about it. Clear lock and locks are good. All my ammo cans are brightly labeled with GEOCACHE on them, and are hidden way up on the mountains.
  4. Don't be silly. Leave the log alone. ..... and don't ask those type of questions in this forum when the puritans are awake.
  5. Perhaps you mean How can you geocache with your Nuvi? Pure paperless caching is a bit more complicated.
  6. Many caches go missing. Sooner or later someone will post a "should be archived" log on them. That will get them archived unless the owner gets over there to fix them. However, I sometimes fix other owners caches if I know them, and they want me to. So the answer is No, and Yes.
  7. I use GSAK. When I download a new file, it deletes the old file.
  8. The reason why Garmin is #1 is because their products work better than the competition. Their products work - most of the time. Getting the last 5% perfect takes a lot more work, but that is what gets you customer loyalty. Oh sorry. I was pulling my batteries out of my Garmin gps because it keeps locking up.
  9. Interesting thread. How does Garmin get input for their units? Their techs don't want to forward any issues to Kentucky, for fear they will be looking for work.
  10. Now...back on subject.......... All the newest Garmin GPS units have incorporated a method to log your finds faster. Field notes. Now the cut and paste loggers can zoom thru a hundred finds in less than 30 minutes.
  11. I'm with you. I no longer hunt for easy "park & grabs" or other caches I deem lousy/lame. As a finder, the best thing you can do for hiders of great caches, is to reward them with nice logs, add their caches to your favorites bookmark list, and email them personally to tell them how much you appreciate their hides. Hey..... wait one minute. (Did you wait?) I hate the type of caches you love. Therefore, My "terrible cache" comments in my logs will be on the caches you love. This is exactly how it should be. If somehow you think Your "terrible cache" comment on my caches will Make me hide a different type of cache.....think again. I'm more likely to hide more of the same. (omit the I and change it to "a cacher who loves lame micros on lamposts") By the way....did you notice I don't hunt for your "great" hides? lol
  12. We need the MODEL number of your Garmin gps. Each one is a bit different.
  13. You need my help. Please hire me to fix all the Garmins. I helped Magellan and they didn't agree with me. Now look where they are... NO geocachers are using their product.
  14. .... and I find Also..... that geocaching is made up of two things - The hunt and the forums. While the forums are but a microcosm of the entire geo-society, it certainly messes up the majority when changes are made in a bubble. Now back to the subject. I cut and paste on regular micros. If a cache is outstanding in either the Positive way or the Negative way, they get a special one-of-a-kind log. I bet those negative ones were hoping for a cut and paste log.
  15. Usually.... it's the place the cache is hidden in. I hid a rusty Altoids mint tin with a soggy piece of paper for a logsheet in a park under a giant rock. It was stolen. I replaced it with another mint tin and piece of paper. It was stolen again. I replaced it with yet another mint tin and piece of paper. It was stolen again. I replaced it one more time with another mint tin and piece of paper. It was stolen again. I gave up. Sorry your cache got stolen. Try a more secluded spot. Try a members only hide.
  16. Ha! I agree with the OP. The site was created to keep your finds organized into 2 piles. Found and Not Found yet. Once you find the cache and want it off your searching queries..... you click on the smiley. The average cache hider does NOT feel a need for a group hug, nor a 3 paragraph story regarding how tough it was to find your 1/1 hide. A "found it" will suffice.
  17. Now you can write a bunch of mean stuff about a terribly lousy geocache you encounter..... and then edit it to say nice things. The owner will get a notification for the post.... and then will race over to delete your log... and find nice things posted. Ya might want to limit this silly practice to cachers that you know.
  18. I believe there is a "missing" bug place now. I remember moving a bunch of my missing travelbugs into it.
  19. I actually have DNF'd the same cache 5 times. I have 3 DNF's on several caches. It's more fun to find it myself. If I need a hint....it's usually just a question like "Is it really there?"
  20. 0-10,000 finds - Newbie Over 10,000 finds - Obsessed
  21. Two choices....both good. 1 - ignore the whole thing. 2 - Log it in to your hands. Log it into the cache. ( I would only bother doing this if you want to have the icon. Some of them are special) ..... and the best choice is............... 1 Sometimes I pick up a travel bug and drop it off in another cache on the same day. Many times someone grabs it out of that cache on the same day. I just move on. As a travel bug owner, I am much, much, much more worried about my travel bug vanishing.
  22. I don't know how to use a Mac. I use gsak and it has a macro button that does it all. However..... the 62 works just like the oregon and colorado. Perhaps the help screens for one of those older models will help you.
  23. not a he.....it's a she. She has over 100 lifelines that she can call for help. I think that here in the city, no one cares if you tell someone where the lampost hide is. I'll agree with the "ask the owner" comments....IF it is a famous or very clever hide. I always try to get at least one phone number to call in case we have car trouble. Normally we just call for dinner plans with the locals. It's pretty rare that we call for a hint. Sometimes we call ahead and check out locations of gas and food spots.... and it's important to know what city areas are dangerous to be in after dark. Normally we spend a minute or two searching, and then move along. If somone needs a hint on any of my hides........please help them. thanks.
  24. Change your updates from automatic to "ask me first before messing up my vacation". In this way, you can do updates AFTER you pass important dates.
