  1. I noticed when using the android phone with the geocaching app...or the cgeo app... pictures automatically pop up on the screen as we approach the coordinates. I wouldn't want a spoiler pic to pop up. I think it's just a pic that is placed in the cache page description...and not the logs. anyways.... I'm trying to guess why a newbie would refuse to delete his picture. So...putting myself in their shoes.... ...they went thru a lot of effort to take the picture, and then figure out how to actually upload said picture onto the website...only to have some grumpy cacher tell them to remove it. Wasted time, wasted pic... I would probably just let it go...but if it was one of my very clever hides.... I'd delete the entire log if they refused to blur it out. I suggest you try another tact. Thank them for finding your geocache, and once again explain that it ruins the fun for other finders. Ask them to blur it out....as that would make it more fun for others.
  2. Ya know, in a weird kinda way, that actually makes sense! Exactly correct. Normal behavior on power trails...is to post your story and pictures on #1. The entire rest of the trail can be cut and pasted "TNLNSL", because the entire trail is usually non-descript copies of #1. If there is a cute one in the middle of the trail...perhaps it would get a unique log...Otherwise cut and paste...but that's another thread.
  3. Nope. You favorited a wonderful turtle pond cache, and a clever fake lizard cache. I would favorite those also. A bush cache is just a bush with a micro in it....nothing more.
  4. Uh oh... remember that comment you made about Jeremy.... I think I know why you are the only one who can't create a new topic....
  5. You may want to follow your track backwards to get home.
  6. There are some power trails that are all on one side of a rarely used road....route 66.... tow series...alien hwy. There are some that are on both sides of the road, and are crazy dangerous to try and run across the traffic. We call those 'frogger' power trails (do ya remember that video game? The frog tries to dodge traffic and crosses a busy highway. He usually gets squished by a vehicle.). There are some that are not really powertrails at all. They were created over years, and have many different hide styles, hidden by all sorts of geocachers. There are also the purist version of a power trail...these are Hiking trails, with a geocache every tenth of a mile. My favorite type is desert power trails. We head out into the desert, and zoom up deep sand wash trails in our 4x4's. The number series near Landers is one.
  7. There are tons of styles of caching out there currently. Puzzles, multi's, events, group caching, hiking, speed caching, city caching, extreme caching, virtual caching, benchmarking, delorme caching, personal challenge caching, map grid caching, off road cacheX4ing, or just hide some geocaches, and even my favorite ones....lamposts! Geocaching is great because everyone can play it their own way. If you prefer a certain type of geocaching, then do that. Just remember to have fun out there. (if you are not having fun....come visit our town, and we will take you out and show you how to do it!)
  8. Information overload is right! There are so many good GPSR units out there now. I remember when there were only a few that would even work for geocaching..... way back when. You are heading in the right direction. Since you are just starting out, you don't need to spend $500+ on a Garmin 62 (top of the line). There are many good lower end units that work just fine for finding geocaches. If later on, you decide to continue in this crazy hobby/sport, you can upgrade to something more expensive...or not. The higher end units can be loaded with additional maps, and can handle more geocaches (2000 of them). But that is certainly not required to start out. Make sure you attend some local events too. There are lots of friendly cachers out there that would love to help answer your questions.
  9. In the interest of science....I designed an experiment. I hid a crappy bush hide and a super clever awesome cache right next to it (yes, it was point one mile away). After a dozen cachers found them both, I checked the favorites votes. The lousy bush hide had ZERO FAVORITE votes, and the awesome cache had 11 votes. I can only guess that the one cacher who didn't vote for the awesome cache must have been out of votes! So in conclusion.... I love the new FAVORITES voting system.
  10. Well...one of the reasons we only have 28000 finds, is because whenever someone wants to go geocaching in our neighborhood, we go with them. We already found most of the caches around here...but we have fun spending the day with friends...and watching them have enjoyment finding all the cool caches nearby.
  11. Exactly.... thanks for making my point quite clear. Those are GOOD FAVORITES. I keep finding lousy caches instead....with one Favorite point. note: Yes...I just find them all anyways....and no, I don't really care. I just went caching with a friend who was trying to only find favorite voted caches. It was fun, yet confusing..... because I know we drove right past some really awesome caches that had zero votes.
  12. Perhaps if you took a different girl along.......
  13. Thank You. (it's Ooper's not Opper's though). lol...I haven't Favorite'd that one either.
  14. Oh...allright. Perhaps I'm pickier than most. That would explain why I still have over 2750 Favorite votes left to place. I can't find a FAVORITE cache yet.
  15. I guess a GOOD bush hide would be ok. However, I just hate digging thru a very dirty, buggy, fast growing bush pile, with stickers, and poison oak, just to find a camo taped pill bottle hanging there. Bushes grow! I had hoped FAVORITE voting would eliminate all those crappy, dirty hides. The drama icon just meant that I was quite certain there were opposing opinions in the forums.
  16. I'm trying to use FAVORITE votes to determine GOOD caches to find. It seems that some cachers are just placing their FAVORITE votes on crappy bush hides from their caching friends. Please put your friendships aside, and vote for GOOD caches. I have figured out that any cache that has a hundred finds, and only ONE FAVORITE VOTE fits in this category. So now I am eliminating those caches with ONE FAVORITE VOTE from my list of caches to find.
  17. note: a newly created querie should complete running in just a few minutes.
  18. If you never received an email.... then you need some additional advice. Be sure to click on one day of the week. Be sure to NOT select too many restrictions... (example: have found, AND have not found...will get you zero caches in your querie)
  19. step one - Create your own geocoin. Step two - manufacture a couple hundred or more. Step three - start trading.
  20. sorta.... press the mark button. Then finish making the waypoint where you are. Then go back to the main menu. select waypoint manager select your waypoint you made. the numbers just keep going up...waypoint 1, then 2, then 3....for every one you made. Once you select it, then you can go to the coordinate window and edit it.
  21. Good question! There are a couple of android apps you can use. Search for geocaching in the marketplace. Download the app. Use the app to insert your coords. We use geocaching.com app and c:geo
  22. Hmmm.... You can create a pocket querie if you are a premium member. Save the querie (gpx compressed file is fine) to your computer. Go into gsak and load the file. Be sure to click OFF the erase all previous loaded data box. I've never use a page at a time.
