ThomasFamily: I got mine as a starter unit... and I've been very impressed with it! Add me in for the comments on the sat locks. Believe me, I don't have $70 to just throw around, but, to put it into a different perspective, I've also bought shoes at prices more than that, only to have them hurt my feet & stay in the closet never to be worn again! My little junior has turned from an expense to an investment in no time! btw- since ya'll know how team-geomate-junior I am.... I've gotta admit: I finally ordered a grown-up gps! Im hoping my pn-30 will be arriving today! but, i promise my junior will still be in the forefront!

I just ordered a pn-30 (not so patiently waiting for its arrival!!), so I'd like to thank you for these trials!! I'm very hands-on, so reading reviews doesn't compare with actual usage for me.... This exactly the kind of stuff I wish every review could offer! We took my friend's oregon out with my geomate jr... and i've gotta say, junior held its own against the big-gun! I'd love to hear about battery length!

we've tried doing that way... much easier to just use the feet & the arrow! We knew the general vicinity of the cache & such. But, we ended up switching back to the main screen.

Hrm... I've got the update kit & I ran it about 10 days ago... I guess I'll try it again?

Try doing an update. One option is for 4/4 cache ratings and below. All traditional caches that are not restricted to premium members only should show up. If not, let Warren know (use your pom-poms) and he will look into it for you. He has already done some simular fixes. i want 4's!!! that would be awesome if i could do that!! i'll have to mess around with it tomorrow!

I had a friend visit with his 'grown up' garmin & me with my little ol' geomate. We were working on series called 'snow white & the 7 dwarves' (you found each dwarf cache & it had parts of the coords to find the snow white cache.) I had a few of the caches show up in my geomate, but, it was completely random as to which did & didn't. None of them had a hard terrain or rating (& its 3/3, not 2/2!) but, the first one we worked on wasn't on there... the 2nd was. Who knows why!!

No premium caches with the junior. There's a 4* cache like 200 feet from my house & its not in there either... I was really hoping the update kit would allow harder caches too.

i had drama on my desktop... used the laptop & had LOTS of drama (vista) but, husband did some 'fixing' & all is good now. Wish I could tell ya what he did, but I have no clue! But, vista is what we used.

Got mine! There were a few glitches on the road to set up... but, yay for the husband knowing how to make everything computer-related actually work! (me? not so much!) Don't forget to mail out those rebates, kids! I found mine, which was a miracle on its own!

my husband & I just had this exact same conversation last night! Too little, too late on the part of the execs, I guess! As for the avoid highways, or whatever it was... maybe it does do that! I've never played around with it enough to find out!

I do! I bought it for my husband last year for his birthday! (He's obsessed with all things Knight Rider! We watch it every night on the RTN!) You can put your own name in there, so, it says things like "Jason, where would you like to go today?" & "I'm really looking forward to this" when you turn it on. The red light stripes flash & make the noise that KITT does too! (& my husband does silly things like say "thanks buddy" when KITT tells him what to do!). And i've found that even i refer to the thing as "KITT" rather than "the gps"! Since everything was pre-recorded in William Daniels voice, sometimes the directions are a bit more vague, like, no street names in town. There's also an option to switch to about 3 different voices, which are not as vague. Then it sounds like just the plain ol' gps. The other thing that can drive me nuts about it... KITT's VERY persistant. To get to our hometown, we can take interstate, or highways. We opt for highways, since its actually faster. Well, KITT wanted us on that stinkin' interstate!! For over half the drive, he kept telling us to u-turn! Finally, when we were about 30 miles out, he gave up & changed his route. Yes, it was expensive. We didn't have a GPS before this (we'd borrow my mom's for long trips & she lives an hour & a half away!) so, it wasn't like we had another option before hand except google maps & such. Its a fun alternative, & it works well, so no complaints here! I'd mentioned getting a GPS many times before they actually released KITT & he'd say "if we get one, it has to be this one!" So, it was my only chance... I took it!

I have had my Geomate Jr. since June and have never had that problem, however since I started using the Update kit, almost everytime I hook it up it dies and the only way I can get it to power back up is by taking out the batteries and putting them back in. yup! that's what mine's doing, but i haven't gotten the update kit yet (ordered today!!)

Does the geomate jr prefer non-rechargeable batteries? I've been having issues with it randomly just powering off lately, & then I have to mess with the batteries, then it comes back on. I didn't have these issues til I switched to the rechargeables. Anyone else having this issue??

i feel so left out! stopped at REI yesterday, but didn't get to make a purchase.... So now, I'll be ordering & waiting at my mailbox!

We live in Shakopee Minnesota, and I called the Bloomington store to see if they have it in stock and do not and the two other stores did not either.He also checked the next truck and its not on that.He said to order on line on line,so I did and it will be in Thursday. That's the store we're going to! I wonder if I should just give up & order it online?

Im going to REI on thursday! (its 3+ hours away!).... I hope its available in the store!

haha! thanks for the shoutout! I'm sure that if I had a garmin or a delorme, I'd be just as excited/passionate about my toy... but, this is all I've got, so I'll embrace it as long as it works for me!
