  1. I just couldn't stand to see Canadian Geopub Quiz so far down the page. "Moon the Balloon" sounded awesome! Those wacky Sarnians. I see no evidence on the web that the balloon is still spying. I suppose the real answer was some sort of environmental protest, if it were to be somewhat Geocaching related. Since I seem to have stumped everyone, the answer is the Clayoquot Sound logging protests of 1993. TheWhiteUrkel was closest, so next question is yours!
  2. Can this onion ring get more fans then Stephen Harper? *chuckle* No, but I AM a member of that group. Nope, the act of civil disobedience consisted of 12,000 people and resulted in over 850 arrests.
  3. Okay...here might be a relatively easy one. What holds the record as the largest act of peaceful civil disobedience in Canadian History? Although on the surface it might not seem like a geo-related question, it is....at least I think so.
  4. 18km. I asked my (ex-military) husband.
  5. Hopefully Popoki Nui and I will hook up with you at an event! Until then, Happy Caching! I'd love to get to an event, so far the only ones have either been too late at night for the mini-cacher (only 4) or in the middle of a week day when I'm working! If you know of any that are on a weekend day, please shoot me an e-mail!
  6. Exactly what I was going to say. We cache with our 4 1/2 year old and he loves the first cache of the day, is super excited about the second one (after getting to trade swag in the first) but by the third he can get bored and the fourth is usually a write off. Stick to larger caches, let your little one trade, pack lots of snacks, do not go out near nap time and know when to give up and deal with a DNF if needed. We live on Vancouver Island so seeing families wandering in the woods is really common, I've never worried about people looking at us strangely.
  7. I live in Victoria, British Columbia...if I let a little rain stop me, I would never leave the house! We tested out the brand new GPS on New Year's Day in the rain and it was a fun, if unsuccessful trek.
  8. My 4 1/2 year old LOVE "treasure hunting", as he calls it. He also makes great cover when muggles are curious about why we are poking around in bushes and under rocks. "See kiddo, that's a bug down there! And look, some moss!"
  9. Victorian here! I'd love to get to an event or two this year, would be nice to meet more cachers!
  10. We went out for a walk and to test out the new GPS...found where a cache *should* have been but failed to actually find it. Had a few more locs loaded but then it started to rain and the kiddo got cranky. Note to self, next time don't go out just before lunch time, in the rain with a 4 1/2 year old who needs a nap. Oh well, two more days left of the weekend, plenty of time to cache!
  11. Another Islander here, from Victoria. I cache with my husband and 4 year old son, although we are very new to it with only a handful of finds under our belt. Can't wait for slightly nicer weather though, rain and a cranky preschooler do not make for a fun afternoon!
  12. Thanks for the replies! The radio show is a tech based call in show so I thought that he could incorporate the techie side of geocaching if anyone called in. I think we're going to leave a few cards and see what, if any, response he gets.
  13. Good morning everyone! My husband, son and I have recently taken up geocaching and we had an odd question about the protocol relating to personal swag items. My husband hosts a local talk radio show on the weekends and we were thinking of leaving a card in caches we find with the day, time and phone number for people to call in if they find it. He's not trying to sell anything, promote his viewpoint or talk politics or religion...we just thought it would be a fun thing to see who calls in! We haven't left any of the cards yet, we wanted to check here and ask first. Thanks in advance!
