  1. Jeremy, long time geocacher, first time wherigoer. Will it be possible to build and host Wherigo cartridges on my own site or would I be required to post to Wherigo? Could I charge for the files on my own site? Thanks.
  2. I am doing this for my kids this year. Sometime after Christmas they will receive a card from Santa explaining that he had a few gifts he forgot to leave and had to drop them from his sleigh on the way to the next town. Santa of course will provide the coordinates and we will go out to find a box with some item for each of the kids.
  3. Thanks for the replies. CoachSteve is from the area and can attest that this cache was placed in an area that likely had not seen water in decades. In fact, another foot or two in the uphill direction would have saved it. The force of this flood took out several homes and permanently changed the course of the river. Given that every tree within a five foot radius of the cache was ripped out by the flood, I don't think a tether would have done much.
  4. I finally got out to check on my cache that was placed along a Riverbed. St. George Utah was recently ravaged by flood waters. 20 or so homes were lost. My cache was a small ammo can along the river. I checked today and it is gone. Does anyone have any experience on how far an ammo can might float? I looked around the immediate area and did not see it. If it didn't float away, it is certainly under a lot of mud. I doubt it is of any use to go out with a metal detector. It is probably half way to Lake Mead by now. It would be fun to have it turn up. Hopefully I will have a confused anthropologist some 300 years down the road.
  5. Great! So can I now start allowing gay porn caches? No, that would be against the law. That's CLEARLY against the decency standards of this nation. Since when is gay porn against the law? There is no real definition of obsenity other than "I know it when I see it." The point of the thread is that different people are offended by different things. I would agree that porn of any kind shouldn't be in a cache regardless of legality.
  6. You can say that again! Now the topic is just getting repetitious
  7. Holy Cow! I just took a moment to peruse the logs of Oregone. There are some serious gems there. With almost 100 finds there is plenty of quality reading. A book should be published.
  8. I am thinking about an ique. Has anyone else put it to the test. I have heard some negative comments regarding reception and the unit crashing regularly. Let me know what you think.
  9. I just bought a Magellan Blazer 12 GPS off of ebay for my father as a cheap beginner GPS. I noticed tha the seconds only go out two digits. Is this a very big deal? Is it still accurate enough? I have not tried it on a cache yet.
  10. What are you talking about? This is exactly what this thread is about.
  11. I have to go with Rusty on this one. We live in a free market society. If someone can provide the service better or cheaper let them do it. I am having a hard time understanding why Jeremy has some obligation to provide hours and hours of time, equipment, bandwidth, etc. and not be compensated. Do the rest of us work for free? An example: I am an attorney and I do estate planning services. I have spent years creating forms for wills, trusts, etc. If a new guy just out of law school comes into town and sets out his shingle am I obligated to give him a set of forms for the greater good? Is it wrong for me to profit because I am better equipped to provide the service? Another example: In the world of litigation lawyers often like to refer to reports of jury verdicts and settlements to evaluate a case. This information is not kept in any readily accessable form like statutes and appellate decisions. The leading publisher of such information is www.JVR.com who has gathered the data for years. The data is gathered mainly by lawyers submitting it to them. JVR turns around and charges significant fees of access to their information. What is to stop a competitor from entering the field? Nothing, except for sufficient resources or data. I have set up a site in an effort to combat the high price of JVR at www.verdictexchange.com. Will JVR hand over their data they have gathered for 100 years? Probably not, nor should they. So I will have to gather data the same way they did, by offering incentives to list with my site. If I can make it viable, do I intend to profit? Darn straight. The moral is, I wish Jeremy every success in this venture. If the market will bear it, I have no problem with him becoming stinking, filthy, rich. If someone else wants to spend the same amount of money and time that Jeremy has, and offer it for free for the greater good, let them. It would be a noble gesture. I just hope they are able to make their living elsewhere. OUT.
  12. I haven't tried this one yet, but I hope to soon. Apparently you have to float the cache up.
  13. I have to go with flask on this one. I hate the term and refuse to use it. Are we going to start carrying wands with our GPSr? There was a similar thread a while back when I first started caching. Another cacher suggested the term "igby" for ignorant bystanders. I like it. Keep on ranting Flask, I got your back.
  14. I don't mean to put a cacher down, but, is it merely coincidence that the dude that found the body goes by Crazy Crazy? That should help Metro narrow down the suspects. Just kidding.
  15. I would like to start a Geo Poker game of some sort in my area. Please post any ideas or variations you have tried that work well. I have considered a Multi-Cache with each step being part of the Texas Hold 'em flop or having the flop at my own personal site and leave two card hands in caches throughout the area. Please let me know what you think.
  16. This is an offer I just cannot refuse. Some pretty cool avitars going on in here. I have an idea, but not very proficient with photoshop yet. My screen name is pretty worthless. I am a graduate of the University of Montana School of Law, 1997. Real creative. But I want to go a different direction with my avitar, and may change my name (to protect the innocent). My other hobby is air cooled volkswagens. I would like a vw westfalia (pop top camper) bus that is painted dark green to look like an ammo box. Add a handle on top and a Geocaching Sticker and I've got the worlds largest moving cache! Here is a picture of a suitable bus for use. BUS or BUS 2 Thanks for any suggestions.
  17. I was thinking about making custom pinback badges as sig items. Has anyone else done this? How expensive is a press? Are they hard to make?
  18. I have thought about the custom poker chip idea as well. One source that I am aware of is the Gamblers General Store in Vegas. Click here.
  19. I just placed my first cache and had it approved today. I submitted it to GC on the eve of 7-7-04 and it was approved a couple hours ago. It was however a pretty simple straightforward hide. Good Work Co Admin. Take a look at the cache here.
  20. As an attorney I am very saddened by stories like this and can only state "here is my card." Just kidding. I am glad to hear that you are ok. Quit screwing around on GC and get some rest. Hope to see you back caching soon. Get well.
  21. If you think an MRE doesn't sound tasty, take a look at this cache. The little action on this cache could probably be explained by it's original contents and the item left in the one log. Bon Appetite.
  22. I see where you are going. I would be cool if you could economically use a tracking device to find a stolen cache. Here is a link to something I saw on ebay, but I don't think it quite fits the bill. This device hooks to your car and allows you to later download where it has been. Probably good for spying on the wife but no real geocaching application.
