  1. Guyahoga county - if I spelled that right..
  2. Awesome advice, I am always caching with everything in hand and often get thirsty or forget a pin or something else. On your post I purchased the sholder bag from e-bay.. It's smaller so not too big for my needs but perfect for my pens, gps, cell, paper water and a few other minor caching items.. Thanks for the info..
  3. How much you looking to spend? I prefer the Garmin 60Cx but I've heard you can get some Garmin Oregon 200 series about 265 but I cant seem to find them.. But all in all I think a Garmin 60Cx is quite good. Scroll down in this forum and there are several posts about which ones to buy with a lot of good info
  4. Heck yea Free is Free But you will for sure have issues when you start getting into covered area, the antenas on the auto ones won't keep satelite locks as well under thick cover.. But if it's working for now then you can't beat not spending money
  5. Oregon 200 is good.. But I thought it was more expensive - I looked into it but couldn''t find anything not refurbished under 300, Where did you find that price because I still have to get a GPS for my wife too and the touch screen was attractive..
  6. Although you could hardly call the 60CSx a truely "paperless" Geocaching unit....... The workaround works but has some limitations and is clumsy (to put it mildly) with large listing pages. It totally paperless for me.. I haven't used any work arounds. Well it depends on what you mean. If you want to read the logs and the hints yea you would have to either look it up on your cell if it has internet or print out a page - I haven't had a need for this. - The 60Cx is 100% efficient for me. It loads 1000's of Geocache's on the map so if you are in an area you just click on the geocache waypoint, it pops up and shows you the Geocache ID and in the description it gives you a portion of the title of the cache. So, 100% paperless for me but to get everything under the sun you have to shell out a lot of dough. My main thing on this unit is it is very accurate, works awesome under cover and you don't have to enter the coords in manually every time you want to go geocaching, plus it has expandable SD card memory for maps and other stuff.
  7. A good one you won't have to upgrade later is the Garmin 60Cx - has an expandable memory card where you can download free topo maps and you can download 1000's of cahces from your pc to the GPS so you don't have to destroy the rainforest when caching printing out all those pages lol

    WAAS?

Most important thing to remember is although it does increase accuracy, if the person who hid the cache did not have such an accurate GPS it won't matter too much.
  9. This is true, an expandable SD card slot to me is a MUST have!
  10. Is that normally a car GPS? I used My garmin Nuve 360 or whatever.. I tried using that for caching before I got my Garmin 60Cx and I was always like 40 feet away. I tried my wifes garmin 250.. Even worse was always a range from like 30 to 60 feet off it was so frustrating I gave up. I considered those two types useless.
  11. Hi. I started GeoCaching this month. I wanted to suggest a different garmin than you had listed. I did a lot of searching on which would be the best GPS for my needs and wanted one that I wouldn't say in 6 month or a year that maybe I should upgrade - So I spent a little more than I first thought I would and bought a Garmin 60Cx. On this Garmin it comes with it's own geocaching software and you can load thousands of Caches onto the garmin so that while you're out you don't have to have all the papers and you just look at the screen and see which ones are close by. Then you can choose one find it click found then go to the next nearest one. It's such a cool GPS and gets me so close to the cache. Accuracy is key.. I highly recomend it! *** also you can load free topo maps to it as well.. I did they dont have to be made by garmin on this one and thats really good because that saves you lots of money.. I don't know if you can on the others you have listed or not. so I can give you a site to go to where you can get the free maps.. I'll have to find it again.. ** Also read through this getting started forum. Lot of info on GPS's. Happy caching!!
  12. Thank you for the info.. I did get the prem membersip Couldn't live without pocket queries lol. And Gsak is such an awesome tool. I'm a quick learner thankfully as I can see a lot of people getting frustrated with some things BUT it just takes patience. Found 5 yesterday - It's raining today but I'm going out anyway
  13. You know I thought haha 'whatever' when i read your post but sure enough I walked out of the store and forgot the batteries lol
  14. Unless you really need an electronic compass and the fancy altimeter, I'd stick with the Cx...it's what I use. I figure if I need a compass, I'll have a real one with me and since I don't climb mountains, so the barometric altimeter is useless to me. Cool.. So software wise no difference? just those couple things.. If thats the case I will stick to the cx
  15. ** Problem.. I mistakenly ordered the 60Cx not the 60CSx - --- I used it today and found caches fairly easy. Is it worth the trouble and the extra money to return it for the CSx? I easily loaded all my caches into it already and it came with pre-installed cache software.. Basically just concerned about the mistake - I read the reviews and am understanding the basic difference is the compase and altimeter?
  16. Wow this is great information. I'll worry about the hints on the GPS later.. I'll just keep a small notebook if I need the hints. I get my GPS tomorrow and am totally excited! I've been playing my PS3 on the weekends for the past year and now to have something to get me and my wife outside is awesome! Thank you to everyone who has replied. GSAK is a cool app.. I have been toying around with it a bit and finally have figured some of it out. It's a little overwhelming at first but if you hit the help feature it really walks you step by step through it. It's just a lot to do and you have to be patient to do it all.
  17. Wow thank you for all the information! I think this will be awesome. And i love to be outside so i'll probably look into a whole range of activities. Aso on the 60csx by linking the unit to my PC via a USB I would be able to download the waypoints on my GPS for a given area right?
  18. I just started and bought the Garmin 60csx - Is there anything I need to do with it before I get started?
