  1. I'm with the Moose. I'm also a lurking newbie who thouroughly (sp?) enjoys the forums. It's my prime form of entertainment when I'm at home. But for now I will slink off into the shadows...
  2. We just placed our first cache recently and put in a T-shirt from the park where the cache is placed. Along with the T-shirt, I made up a cheapy FTF certificate. I didn't advertise it was in there but the first finder seemed to appreciate it. Which brings me to, are you guys advertising your FTF prize?
  3. I guess I'm a lurker now too. I have posted a few times, but it seems people are usually asking questions that other (more experienced posters) could answer. I know the answer most times. I should, I mean I've been lurking for weeks!

  6. We live in a State with a similar fee system: day pass or annual pass per vehicle and trail pass per bike rider (only on the trails). You can walk or bike the roads for free. Now, even though the fees are set up and justified by saying they go towards the upkeep of the facilities, the actuality is the fees get dispersed throughout the entire park and park system. It is certainly your right to avoid these fees by not bringing your vehicle into a park, but you are using it to some degree. If you pay/avoid paying that's your choice, but I would encourage all who use the parks to give a little back. If you do avoid paying, consider giving to the park Friends group or voluteering your time. This way you ensure your money or efforts go directly to the park.
  7. Ohh, so that's how it goes... But I still don't know how you did that!
  8. Another newbie question... Maybe one of you old pros could start a thread or something helping all of us out on trying to configure an avatar? Like how do you do that?? I was able to find a pic on the web, but I don't know how to manipulate it.
  9. I know you said money isn't a major concern, but all those lurkers that may be considering... We have an eTrex venture. It is a little more accurate than the yellow eTrex (although some of the yellow users will say they can find the cache fine), it doesn't have the fancy maps or the fancy compass, but it does have a basic version of each. (I tend to like to have a really big paper map staring me in the face anyway) I can still download plenty of waypoints and find all the caches I want. One other point, much cheaper than the "fancies"
  10. I wish I could find a ftf prize like that. I wish I could find a ftf prize period!!
  11. Trying to get it to change color
  12. I'm so proud. (tears coming to eyes) My first thread and so many encouraging replies! I was getting a little scared when I first posted that the puppymonster was going to come and get me But anyhow, thanks for all the great comments and some ideas. Now all I have to do is get some time away from work in order to get out caching! Stooper.
  13. Then look out world, here come some more dollar coins! Stooper
  14. What is everyone's opinion on trading with the "gold" dollar coins? I have often traded with them and thought I was making a good trade. Usually I have traded up for little army guys, bouncy ball or other foriegn coins. The caches I seem to find always have those types of trinkets in there. In my mind a gold coin is of much greater value then what I took, but I have read in other threads that spare change can sometimes be thought of as "un-imaginative" or some such thing... But if you think of it, the gold dollar coin is fast becoming a thing of the past and could be worth something someday (many many many many years from now) as opposed to a couple of 10 cent plastic army men. I don't mind too much if people want to trade with army men, could be worth something to the trader. My question: are gold dollar coins something you would find "un-interesting" and "thoughtless"?
  15. Hi Dee Ho! Stooper and B. here. As you can see here, we're new. We have been caching since way back when in Tewnty "ot" Four when we heard about this here new fangled type 'o hunting fer goods ye see. Well, we just had to give it a whirl. Now yous people went an' got us hooked. I like it, I like it a lot. I ain't got much more to say, so I ain't gonna say it. See you when I see you.
  16. I also just got an Etrex Venture and downloaded EasyGPS. It took me most of a night of yelling at my computer before it finally downloaded. I went through the Garmin manual, Garmin website, Easy GPS help, and EasyGps website. A few things to double check: -make sure the units are the same for both GPS and EasyGPS (distance, lat/lon...) -make sure you have selected Garmin eTrex Venture in the preferences section (file-preferences-my gps reciever) on EasyGPS Other than that just make sure all connections are good Hope that helps Stooper
