  1. I'd prefer to not be a participant in the cointest so if by some chance your random number selector were to fall on me please pass it on to somebody else. A few people on this forum know a bit about my Mother, but I think she was the worlds greatest and just want to kind of brag on her so everybody knows about her. She passed away almost 3 years ago and thankfully time does make it more bearable. Like mothers all over the world she made many sacrifices for her children. I come from a home where my parents were divorced (back then that was a very embarrassing thing, unlike today where it is common and accepted) and my Mom raised us four kids on what was literally a below poverty level existence. How she ever managed to do what she did with a little bit of child support from our Father and a little bit of welfare is probably one of the great mysteries of life. While other families were complaining they couldn't survive on $12,000 a year (it was back in the late 60's and early 70's when the dollar was worth a lot more than today) she was raising her 4 children on less than $4,000 a year and a few foodstamps. Anyways, I think of all the amazing things my mother did for us the best was helping us to understand that although we were from a divorced home and certainly not rich we could hold our heads high. At this point I think I'll just do a little cut and paste from a letter that some of you folks have received and that some more will receive from me in the future. Here goes: " My mother who is no longer living used to end letters to her children with Y.A.S.S.! which translates into You Are Somebody Special!. It was her way of letting her children know that "God don't make no junk!" as she used to like to remind us. The use of bad grammar in the "God don't make no junk!" saying was something she did on purpose. The reason she used the very bad grammar was she knew that it was so far out of her normal speech pattern that it would really be noticed by us kids and so we'd hear what she was saying and remember it. It was her way of letting us know that we were special not only in her eyes, but in God's eyes also." Yep, that's gotta be one of the greatest gifts a mother can give, a sense that although on the outside we were dirt poor we knew we were special in Mom's eyes and God's eyes. Ok, I've got my bragging done now so I'll stop and let somebody else brag on their Mom. Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms!
  2. E-Mail sent. Looking forward to attending my first mega event!
  3. Just a heads up for those that weren't able to get a Neptunes Compass at the big sale today. I've received my invoice from Tsun and based on the total I'm now sure I did get my full order approved. So in about 3 weeks I will give away one more of them. Of course that means that FScout will be receiving her Caribbean Neptunes Compass that she won earlier today. Hers will be mailed very shortly after I receive them. I am purposely going to hold off a fair amount of time to let people make their best trades and let the market kind of stabilize. I'm pretty new around here but from what I've read over the last couple months I get the impression that newer coin collectors may be at a bit of a disadvantage when it comes to trading since they may not have any coins yet that are in demand by other coiners. So my goal is to see if we can get a Neptunes Compass to one of those type of folks. Although my goal is to help a newer collector get one anybody who has not made arrangements to get a Neptunes Compass by that cointest date will be eligible and welcome to enter. There will only be 1 more coin I can give away so if you can make a trade I'd suggest you do so since if you hold out for this one coin you may not be able to get a trade later. I'm sure she won't mind, but since FScout won a Neptunes Compass today she will not be allowed to participate in the next cointest. Also, I will make sure and unlike today I will post a notice of the upcoming cointest at least 72 hours before it takes place so everybody will have advance notice next time. I'll also think of something different for the correct answer for the cointest. I'll provide details when I give the 72 hour notice of the cointest. Sorry I wish I could do more than just the one more coin, but that will be all I can part with in this manner. Good luck to everybody working on getting a trade together!
  4. I'm glad it made your day! It's made mine too to be able to play a small part in brightening your day. I'm assuming I "won" my full order and if so then what is your preference of color of your Neptunes Compass? If I only got a partial order accepted then I'm sorry but I'll reserve the right to decide which you recieve, but I will try my best to accomodate your wishes. Don't forget please make sure your address is correct in the address book. To everybody else good luck on finding folks who are willing to trade. If I got my full order there's a good chance we can do something like this again. Sorry I can't make everybody happy, but that's really impossible to do when coins are in that great of demand and the seller has to implement buying restrictions. Be nice to each other and trade fairly!
  5. WE HAVE A WINNER! You know I think you really were meant to get this coin. Originally I was planning on sending it anonymously and you were the person I'd selected to receive it. Then I decided to do a cointest to make sure a Tsun fan won it and here you are as the winner this way too! Congratulations and I know you're in the address book but please verify your address there is still correct so I'll know where to mail it to when I receive it.
  6. Ok here are the simple rules and good luck! 1. Guess the number of coins I have anonymously sent out since I started my little Y.A.S.S.! mission. Note: It is higher than what you will see on this thread since not everybody who has gotten them has posted on the geocoin forum and I just sent a couple more the other day. 2. You can submit one guess every 3 minutes. I don't know anything about cointests so just figure the 3 minutes based on how you see most other cointests doing it. 3. The first person to get the correct answer wins one Neptunes Compass. The first correct answer will be determined by the first one that shows up first in this forum thread. Keep in mind I have to receive my coins first and then remail one to you so it will take some time to get to you. 4. The correct answer is to be determined by the number of coins I remember sending out. My memory is not that great so I may be off by a little bit, but the number I've already decided on is the correct answer and that number will be considered the only correct answer for this little contest. Good luck!!!
  7. I suspect I waited to long to post this little cointest but I didn't want to list it until I was 100% sure I'd won at least one coin. Oh well if there's anybody who sees this early enough you may stand a very good chance at winning this one without much competition. If you know of somebody who missed out on getting a Neptunes Compass coin feel free to send them an E-Mail. I'll be back in about 10 minutes to give the rules of the cointest (it's going to be real basic and should be over very quickly, unless nobody has noticed this then it could last a while). Good luck everybody! Edit to add the following: I also wanted to get this over as quickly as possible so as not to keep the stress going for those trying to get a coin. That is why I did not set the cointest to start several hours from now. People have had enough stress for a day.
  8. This is only for people who did not get a Neptunes Compass coin. There is a cointest for one Neptunes compass. You can find it in the forum thread titled "Y.A.S.S.!" here in the geocoins forum area. The cointest is only for one coin and it will start at approximately 12:30 p.m. EST today (approximately 40 minutes from now). Good luck!
  9. Well folks today was the day for the big sale of Neptunes Compass geocoins by Tsun. Hopefully everybody was able to get at least one. I have gotten lucky and I know I got at least one of them. I know there are a lot of disappointed people so I think it might be a good idea for me to share the wealth by giving away one of mine that I'm getting. Rather than send it to somebody anonymously and them possibly not being a huge fan of Tsuns work I'm thinking that maybe a bit of a cointest may be in order. The only catch is (and this will have to be on the honor system) the only people who will be eligible to enter this cointest will those who did not get any of the coins in the sale and also have not made arrangements to get one or more from another coiner. It's now 11:40 a.m. EST so I'll post the specifics of the cointest rules say at about 12:30 p.m. EST today. I think I know how I want to do it, but I want to give some people time to become aware of it before launching it. Good luck! (I'll try to be punctual about posting the rules for the cointest right at 12:30 p.m. EST, but if I'm a few minutes late please bear with me)
  10. Ok, I think this is going to sound pretty dumb, but before I start celebrating I just want some confirmation. On the turtle sale I got a nice couple paragraph E-Mail saying sorry but you didn't make it in in time. For todays sale I got a reply from Tsun that said, "got it". So my probably dumb question is (hey I'm new to this so I don't know anything) is it safe to start celebrating or am I maybe misinterpretting the "got it" message? So far I'm not allowing myself to really get too excited for fear I'd find out I didn't get any. In case anybody's wondering I did get that message from Tsun right after the sale started so it's not that it just now popped into my E-Mail box. I just don't want to maybe give others the wrong impression that it was just received. Thanks for taking the time to answer a new guys question. Edit to add: I did not want to write Tsun and ask her since I know she's a very busy person. I just figured I'd add that in case anybody's wondering why I didn't just go directly to the ultimate source of info on this sale.
  11. I'm glad that some coins are starting to make it to you fine folks. Your thanks is not necessary since it is I that get the biggest warm fuzzy feeling knowing that I get to brag about my mother in the note I include. You will know if you receive a coin from me because it will have a letter explaining what Y.A.S.S.! means. SgtMikal please make sure your address is correct in the address book that was formed from a thread on this forum. You never know you may be next. The same goes for anybody else interested in maybe receiving one of my small gifts since that address book is where I will radomly select names from. I'm not rich but I'm hoping to send out 4 or 5 a month to coiners I randomly select from the address book I mentioned earlier. Ok, time to go back into stealth mode. Happy caching and may you find something to brighten your day in your mailbox!!!
