  1. Hello to everybody. To those that received coins and thanked me you are all quite welcome. It really has been a pleasure for me to be able to share a little with you fine folks! When I started my little mission I was planning on continuing it until about November of this year. However, like so many others on this forum life has thrown me some curve balls recently and I must at least for now stop sending coins. Due to some medical bills and more recently some flooding at my home (insurance never pays everything so we end up with bills out of disasters, although I am very thankful that they will pay most of the damages) I'll have to make the coin to Dark Elf my final one at this time. There is no need to worry about me I am surrounded by a great group of family and friends! I'm hoping that within a couple years I can be back to sending out coins to others. Thank you all for the kind words and well wishes! With the recent flooding at my home the internet service at my place is out and no expected repair date so I won't be on here much, but just wanted to say thanks and I'll be back after life settles down. Continue to be nice to each other (which I know you will!). Have a great summer and don't forget Y.A.S.S.! (You Are Somebody Special!).
  2. Hi. I just wanted to add one final thought and then I'm out of here to head to the P.O.. As far as the people who English is not their native language the diversity of the contributors here is a big part of what makes this such a fun place to hang out. I may not be able to travel to England, Germany, Greece, Japan or countless other wonderful places, but through the posts of others I get to make friends all over the world. It's really pretty neat! Sorry I got a bit off topic, but I just couldn't resist contributing one final thought to the thread.
  3. That's not a stupid question at all. I'd describe more outgoing as making yourself visible and accessible to others. Like participating in whatever is being discussed and like what luckycharmer was saying in her post on this subject. I would say you are an outgoing member of this geocoin forum by your participation in cointests, congratulating others on their good fortunes, and answering questions like you did for the OP of this forum thread. As far as your English goes I'd say it's very good and I wish I could speak another language as good as you do. My hat's off to you for your bilingual skills. I'm always amazed by people like you that can learn more than one language! Edit to fix some of my own bad spelling and grammar. You'd never know it by some of my silly mistakes that English is my native language!
  4. Hello Khal. As Dark Elf has pointed out the address book is one way of having your address available to the geocoiners community. Basically all you have to do is go to the thread that Dark Elf has provided the link for and post a request for an invitation to join it. Usually pretty quickly after doing that some kind soul will post asking you to send them your E-Mail address so they can send you an invitation (it is by invitation only). It's really a pretty simple process and who knows you may even find that it's fun to become a mystery sender and send out a coin or two anonymously (be forewarned like all things associated with geocoins it can become addictive). When you fill out your information in the address book I'd recommend filling it out as completely as possible which would include filling out your birthdate (some people include the year some don't, it's your call). Also, if you fill out the comments column it will help other geocoiners get to know you a bit more. Don't forget after you get in the address book to update your address information if you move since it would be shame if a mystery coin were sent to you and it couldn't find it's way to you. There are other ways to also catch gifters attention. I think probably the best way is to become involved in the geocoin community (I see luckycharmer beat me to this point, but I'll leave it since it's important and a little repetition of this point can't hurt). You'll find it has some of the nicest people around and they welcome newcomers very readily. Ways to get involved are through participating in the cointests (there always seems to be at least one running around here), introducing yourself via a post in the geocoin forum, if somebody asks a question and you happen to know the answer be helpful and provide the answer, etc.. Basically just become a contributing member to this special group of people. Of course none of the above will guarantee you receive a mystery coin, but if nothing else it will make your time here in the geocoin forum more enjoyable. Welcome to the geocoin forum!
  5. Wow! I'm not a collector, but that may just have to be one that I do keep a copy of for myself. That is really nice! Good job!
  6. Hi. I have a little secret to share. I actually did receive a surprise coin in the mail from one of you wonderful people. I haven't disclosed it before now because I wasn't sure if the sender would want it publicized or not. I think I probably should not go into specifics about what the coin was or who sent it, but I'll share a little bit of the story. The reason I won't share much detail on the coin itself is that I was honored to receive one that is a very limited edition coin and I don't know if the sender would want others to know that he/she passed one of the few of that particular edition on to me when maybe somebody else may not have been able to get one the hard to get editions. All I'll say about the coin is that is very beautiful and I'm honored to be so fortunate as to get one. So it's only to protect the sender that I won't elaborate on the coin itself otherwise I'd love to brag about it. I went to get the mail recently because I was expecting some more coins that I could send out to others, and I was completely speachless when I opened a bubble mailer and there was a coin that the sender specified was for me to keep. There was a really nice note that was with it. Now, I've pretty much decided I will not collect geocoins since I find it to be a blast to send them out to surprise people, but that coin that was specifically sent to me is undoubtedly a keeper and it and the note that came with it will stay me as a reminder that somebody I'd never met before wanted to let me know that they thought I was pretty special! Talk about a feeling that will put you on cloud 9 for the rest of the day! You see like everybody I've had people do some very nice things for me. However, I've never received an unexpected surprise in the mail so now I know how some of you folks feel and it makes me even more glad that I can do this little thing for a few of you fine folks. I wish I could send to everybody, but financially that would be a very big project so I just do the best I can. Thankfully at least for now I have a bit of disposable income that I can use for my little project. So to my secret sender again I thank you and that coin and note will always be cherished. Thank you for making me feel very special.
  7. Hi. I just wanted to say thank you for your well wishes, thoughts and prayers. Thankfully modern medicine is a wonderful thing. It turned out to be heart problems, but they unplugged two arteries (one was 95% blocked and the other was 99% blocked) inserted some stents to help keep things opened up and I was released 51 hours after I walked into the E.R.. So now I'll just have to shed a bunch of extra pounds, eat right and exercise (that translates into go geocaching more often! ) and then life will be grand! I'm home now and was greeted with some new coins in the mailbox so I can start having some more fun with some of you folks! First priority though will be making sure I get a couple of special coins sent out that people are expecting, but had to be delayed until my discharge from the hospital and I still owe Jackalgirl a bit more of a letter than what she got with her coin. Again, thank you everybody for your best wishes and concern. Have a nice day everybody and don't forget Y.A.S.S.! (You Are Somebody Special!).
  8. Hello Jackalgirl. I'm glad my little gift made it half way around the world to you. I owe you the 2nd part of the letter that would have been sent if my printer had not run out of ink. I'm currently in the hospital getting some tests run (nothing life threatening, just trying to find the cause of some pains, probably just old age, lol). Anyways I will forward the 2nd part of the letter as soon as I can (probably a day or two). I'm really glad you appreciate the underlying message of patriotism that old glory represents. Thank you for your service to our country. Don't forget there's an awful lot of us that really do appreciate you and everybody else serving in the military. Have a great day and don't forget Y.A.S.S.!.
  9. Hi Roddy. I'll be sending an E-Mail to you via the link on your profile page. If you could check for it that would be appreciated. Thanks and congratulations!
  10. Same here. I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to start the cointest or verify the winner. Sorry it was a pain for you. Good luck on getting one through a trade or sale!
  11. May 20 2009, 05:47 AM Congratulations! We have a winner. Rockin Roddy posted the correct answer which was May 20th, 2009. Please post on this forum thread if your address is correct in the geocoiners address book or if you’ll be sending it to me by clicking on my screen name and then clicking the link to send me a message. Do not post your mailing address here on this public forum. I’ll more than likely be mailing your geocoin on Monday. Again congratulations and good luck to everybody else on either getting a Neptunes Compass!
  12. Ok everybody. It’s show time! To win all you have to do is be the first person to post the correct answer to the following question here. Heres the question: On what day did DJ J Rock post here on the geocoin forum and his entire post read, “you ALL rock!!!!! ” IMPORTANT NOTE: I believe he’s said a similar phrase in at least one other post, but I’m looking for the post where the above is all the post said. Good Luck!
  13. Ok, in approximately 5 minutes the cointest will start. The only thing you need to include in your post is the date. You do not need the time or any other info. Good luck!
  14. Good morning! The wireless at my house died so I had to move to the bar for this little cointest. The sacrifices I make for all you fine people! Actually since I don't drink anymore bars are pretty boring but thats ok since it will help somebody smile a little more so its worth it. The cointest will be one question only so somebody can win pretty quickly (hopefully) and then people can get back to their normally scheduled activities. If you're not sure what type of question to expect see the 1st post on this thread for an example. By my watch I'm showing 33 minutes to official start time so I'll probably actually start it in about 36 minutes. Good luck people!
  15. Hi. I just need to clarify something since at least one person has misunderstood what I meant and luckily they mentioned it in a message to me. The cointest is scheduled for tomorrow Saturday the 30th of May at 1 minute before noon EST. It is NOT going to be at 1 minute before midnight EST. So this doesn't drag out into a long drawn out event it will just be a 1 question cointest. That way the person that wins will know quickly and the others will know too so they can get back to finding other avenues of trying to get one. To anybody that is going to participate good luck. I'll check back about an hour before the start time to see if there are any last minute things that I need to clarify.
  16. I can't wait for these beauties to go on sale. You did a very nice job!
  17. Please add me to you notification list. I'd love to get some of these. You did a great job!
  18. Hi. I just wanted to clarify something. If you've previously received another coin from me that was not a Neptunes Compass then you can still feel free to participate in this cointest. So basically the only person so far who's won a Neptunes Compass from me would be FScout so she couldn't participate in this cointest (sorry FScout, I hope you understand) but others who have previously received other coins from me can enter it. Normally I'd prefer to keep the distribution of coins from me kind of even but these Neptunes Compass coins are a unique circumstance. So if by the cointest start date you haven't either bought one or made some other type of arrangements to get one feel free to enter even if this would mean you'll get a 2nd coin from me. See the first post in this thread for more detailed information on the cointest. Don't forget folks Y.A.S.S.! (You Are Somebody Special!) Have a great day everybody!
  19. Hi. I was just browsing the geocoiner address book and saw this comment in it. "I wirewrap geocoins. Check 'em out at http://0r0b0rus.blogspot.com - I am more a geocoin collector though I love geocaching. My geocoin lists are at geocoincollection.com." The spelling is very similar to what Eartha mentions so I immediately thought of Eartha's response here on this thread. Hope this helps the op. Have a great day everybody! Edit to add: P.S. I think all the moderators do a great job but I just wanted to pass on a message to Eartha. That message is Y.A.S.S.! (You Are Somebody Special!). It's to bad you're not in the address book since I'd like to send a small gift your way. I understand from what I've read on the forum that you won't accept gifts. I understand that and respect it and so that's why I've gone off topic here to pass on my message to you. Have a great day!
  20. The words you say about me are very kind and flattering, but I'm not anymore special than the next person around here. There are generous givers all over this forum. Some give coins to others, some give encouragement to others, some give the gift of caring and friendship, some give in the form of moderating the forums, some answer questions that others post here, one gave the gift of music, some volunteer at geocaching events and the list could go on and on for a long time. I'm just glad you folks allow me to have a part in the fun around here. Have a great Memorial Day weekend everybody!
  21. Hi everybody. I've got one final Neptunes Compass that I need to give away. So the easiest way to ensure it gets into the hands of somebody who really wants it and will treasure it is to have a cointest for it. The winner will win one Neptunes Compass (Artic Ocean Edition). For any very new geocoin collectors who missed out on the original sale these are some extremely popular coins that were designed and distributed by Tsunrisebey. The entire lot of them sold out in literally seconds when the sale started on the internet a couple weeks ago. Ok, like all cointests there needs to be some rules. Sorry, but the rules will be pretty restrictive since I want the recipient to be somebody who would not otherwise be able to get one. Anyways here are the rules: 1. Sorry FScout, but I'm sure you'll understand. Since you've already won 1 Neptunes Compass from me you will not be eligible to participate in this cointest. 2. This cointest will only be open to people who have not been able to make arrangements via a sale, trade or any other method to get a Neptunes Compass geocoin. This will be on the honor system so please play nicely. 3. Each person participating in the cointest may only submit one guess every 5 minutes. 4. In the unlikely event that there is more than 1 answer that is correct then the answer that I was thinking will the correct one that will be used for determining the winner. Nobody has to worry since I'm very new to geocaching and I do not know anybody personally yet so there will be no chance of favoritism being involved in determining a winner. 5. If there are more than one person with the correct answer the one that is listed first on this forum thread will be the winner. 6. The cointest is set to start on Saturday May 30th, 2009 at 11:59 a.m. (1 minute before noon) EST. I'm sure this date and time will not be convenient for everybody and I'll apologize right up front for that. Unfortunately, there's no way I know of to be able to be make it convenient for everybody. Although I list the start time as 11:59 a.m. I will probably start it about 5 minutes later than that time just to give anybody who may be running a couple minutes late a chance to still participate. I just don’t want people to worry if it doesn’t start at exactly the appointed time. I’ll try and be pretty punctual though. Ok, I think that pretty much spells out the rules. I really want everybody whether new or old to have a fair chance at this so I'll give you an idea of what type of "skill" you'll need to make sure know how to use to win this cointest. To get the correct answer you will need to be able to look back in a geocoiners forum posts to find the correct answer. I'll give an example below (the example is just that, it will not be the question used in the cointest): Example question for the cointest: On what date did M&M Hunter end a forum post with the following sentence. "I wish coins were the only thing the mailman brought " The correct answer to that question would be: Oct 17 2005, which was the date that line was used in the “What’s in your mailbox today" thread. So make sure you know how to look up when somebody said a specific statement here on the geocoin forum. If you’re not sure how to access that information I’m sure you can request help here on the geocoin forum and a friendly person will help you learn. If you know of somebody who would like the coin offered in this cointest and if they fit the eligibility requirements listed above feel free to let them know about this cointest. Good luck everybody! Sorry for the cointest being restrictive in who can participate and for any inconvenience the date and time may cause. Have a great Memorial Day weekend and happy caching!
  22. It was such a nice gesture this morning that I really did not know what to say or how to say my thanks. Isn't just great that we have such great people. I think the Y.A.A.S is very clever and the letter will remain with the coin. I am so blessed to have met such nice people! For somebody who's pretty new to this you've figured out something pretty quickly. You are 100% correct that there are a LOT of really great people here on the geocoin forum! When you look around it's amazing how many people here are giving away coins to people they will probably never meet. I think it would probably be hard to find another on-line forum with such a big group of not only giving people, but people who are there to try and lift each other up emotionally. So yeah, I agree with you geocoiners are the cream of the crop!
  23. Hi Geocharmer81 (Kelly). I tried to use a free on-line translator to translate the German on your sun catcher geocoin and it totally flopped. Basically from what I can gather from looking at the designers description it's dedicated to one of the beautiful states in Germany. If you want to see if you can pick up any more details about the coin let me give you a warning first. Be advised the designer that made your coin that I thought was beautiful also made some other coins you'll see that personally I don't like at all so if you go to that page you may see some objectionable coins (or maybe you may think they're humorous depending you on what type of sense of humor you have, go there at your own risk). If you want to go there to see if you can get anymore info on your coin then you may CLICK HERE . I just bought it because I thought it was beautiful and if I was a geocoin collector it would be one I'd like so I was hoping you would like it too. To everybody else you are quite welcome and I'm glad to see the coins have made it to all you fine folks! It's nice to know that I was able to play a small part in making people smile. Have a wonderful week!
  24. Just wanted to add my thanks for the mighty fast shipping! I wasn't even planning on seeing them for about another week or so. I've mailed out the first of them today and I'm sure FScout will love hers when she sees it in a few days. A talented artist and great service I can see why you have such a loyal following. Thank you and don't forget Y.A.S.S.! (You Are Somebody Special!)
