  1. I'm at about 22 FTF's but only have found one FTF prize. That was for a 10 cache series. And a title related prize of a DVD. I loved it. But I would never expect a FTF prize. In my dreams I get an un-activated coin!!! I'm working on my first placements...and definitely thinking a lot about what FTF prize to leave. I am leaving something but it won't be a GPS!! lol
  2. I am looking for other geocachers around the world who may be planning on travelling to Britain. I would love to travel more but find myself restricted by the cost of hiring cars and staying in hotels. So I was thinking wouldn't it be great if I could find like-minded people who wanted to swap cars...and camping equipment. You would travel around England/Scotland and Wales in my car. I could travel around Spain/Germany/Scandinavia or elsewhere in your car. You would use my tent/cooking equipment and I would use yours. Of course I could get a ferry and drive my car around Europe but I have always found driving in a right-hand drive car on the continent a bit hazardous. And I'm sure it's the same vice versa. I have a Honda Civic. Small but spacious car. A few years old but low mileage. Great driver, and pretty good MPG. There are logistics to consider but is anyone interested in the idea??
  3. hi...Just got a new Oregon and tried out the included tutorial...at the end it said to go online and enter the password to complete the cartridge. How do I do that? I don't see anywhere that asks for a code.
  4. So I am a UK newbie geocacher (170 finds) currently staying in Los Angeles for a few weeks (till the end of September) and was hoping to get some good old geocaching days in. I am looking for local cachers/teams that I could tag along with, and grab some caches. I like doing all kinds of caches, short to medium hikes. (Or earlier longer hikes- whew it's hot!!). Also looking for a crew for the 'Murder amongst the Mateys event' in September. Thanks GamesRmeLife
  5. Me and friends, are coming to the Northwest for a camping road trip. Can anyone give me advice at the best places to Camp that are close to fantastic caches!!! Will be visiting near Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, BC. Any links to campsites and to the best caches would be greatly appreciated, ! Thanks GamesRmeLife
  6. I'm going to be out there for month...with the road trip up north. Arriving July 13th.
  7. Thanks guys...I will check out the bookmarks
  8. Hi thanks for the advice...I am in LA visiting friends...and unfortunately will be travfelling north rather than south to San Diego. As to what type of caches I like...first priority would be the ones that lead to the best views. Secondly the wild and wacky!! I can't hit hundreds so if you had to pick a handful on the way up the coast which would they be. (And still trying to find a site that rates caches...any links???) Thanks you so very much for any replies Games x
  9. So I am coming to the states on a elongated trip. A few weeks in Los Angeles county followed by a trip up the coast through Oregon, Washington and Vancouver. SO which caches can I absolutely not miss? I already have noted the APE cache..but I would appreciate any more recommendations. And also any links to West Coast cache ratings could be well used! Thanks for your help... GamesRmeLife

  11. thanks for the relpies....I have a tomtom 720T. i have inputed the co-ordinates as pois, and hopefully when i get there i can figure it out with a combination of road map and tomtom co-ords...hopefully it'll work...if not I guess I will be out of luck!! Thanks anyway!!
  12. So I am going to Turkey and was hoping to do a little geocaching while out there. I do not have the map of turkey on my tomtom, but when i inputed the co-ordinates for a cache close to my hotel the tomtom did take me to an outline of turkey. without any roads or details. So I am wondering is it possible to use a tomtom without actually having the appropriate map. Can i just follow the arrow on a blank screen to get to the cache co-ordinates? Has anyone done this? Basically I am asking if the 'Help Where Am I' / co-ordinates will work without an actually map on there. thanks for any assistance! x
  13. I am looking at the 'browse map' screen. With co=ordinates shown at the bottom. Firstly even if i am holding them right next to each other the displayed co-ordiantes are different. And when i start walking hers updates the co-ordinates almost constantly. While mine only updates every few minutes or so, if i continue moving. And I will try changing the settings to 'walking-route' see if that helps. I'll let you know.
  14. I have recently discovered this great hobby of geocaching! I have been using my tomtom720 to some degree of success. However it's very hit and miss. Once walking outside the car the co-ordinates are very slow to update, and jump around quite considerably. Making it very hard to zero in on the correct coordinates. I figured this was a problem with all Tomtom's, however, I told another friend about geocaching, and she has been doing it using her TomTom One (3rd Edition) and the co-ordinates are spot on. Get her to the spot instantly. I went over to compare the two tomtoms and even standing side by side, mine (the 720) has different co-ordinates. And when walking her's (the 1) constantly changes the co-ordinates, while mine doesn't change, except for every few minutes (and then very irrationally). What is going on? Does anyone know why these two Tomtom's are acting so differently? And is there anything I can do to make mine a bit more reliable. If you have technical advice please spell it out step by step, or it will fly right over my head!!! Thank you for any and all responses. I am loving geocaching, but cannot afford to buy a new GPS. Please help as I would love to keep my hair, which I am pulling out in bunches!!! THANKS
  15. Hi, Still trying to get the hang of the site. I notice on some cache listings there are bookmarks lists...but how do I search all the bookmark lists without having to first find a cache that is associated with that list. Does that make sense!!! Is there somewhere I can search/browse through other peoples lists? Thanks for any responses!
  16. Hi...Newbie here. My first week of geocaching and I am hooked. SO my question...if I come across a travel bug or geocoin, and I plan to help it on it's mission do I have to leave something of equal value in the cache. I plan to try and find a local cache with a coin in it. It wants to travel West...which is where I am heading. So I was wondering in order to take that coin do I have to replace it with another coin? Or are travel bugs etc exempt from the usual rule of 'leaving something of equal or more value'. Thanks for the response. Gamesx
