  1. I don't think people will feel 'over -criticised' by your comments. It's a fairly regular theme here, particularly about the rapid decline of a well stocked cache. We got so used to not finding anything in a cache worth swapping that we didn't carry much with us. On the one occassion we found a decent cache we didn't have enough on us to make an honest swap. What would interest us? As you say, something unusual that we would not spot in a shop or even be able to buy. So your ideas are quite interesting. I'm still trying to come up with ideas for signature swaps. I thought about the different size caches that we found, and the different age groups that cache. I know that my kids like pens, staplers (don't ask me why) magnifying glasses. So we end up carrying small/medium and sometimes large, little child/teenager/adult items. We quite like finding books (but these are prone to getting damp and smelly) and have recently found DVDs which end up like TBs, watched once and then passed on to the next cache.
  2. But you must also put the call rates (correct at time of printing the leaflet) so that people know how much they are to be charged.
  3. Someone at work was making signs to stick on the filing cabinets using magnetic paper. She was also making some using magnetic strips that were self adhesive. She got these from rapid electronics. Look here and here and err here and finally here and here for miniture magnets. I but with a bit of epoxy I could make something of a minature cache.
  4. I assume from Pharisee's posting that images that are within the html part are hosted on a remote server to which the cache placer has uploaded their picture. i.e. that is not the geocaching.com server. Therefore the autocompression for images over 125k does not come into play. (Not yet set a cache but come close twice)
  5. Quite a few of the London Micros are Listerine breath freshener strip boxes spray painted to match their surroundings, with a magnet epoxied to it. Not 100% waterproof but not too bad.
  6. I thought someone (lordelph?) was going to book out the upstairs room, so he must know the name. As for putting the name in a clue.... I agree it would be a shame for someone to travel, get really close, but miss out at the last hurdle. The cache description does make it look tricky.
  7. I have had similar fun with Viking, and a few other companies. Their database is clearly keyed on Postcode. The first person to order from that postcode gets the account. Anybody else orders from the same postcode, invoice goes to account holder. Nice to see what other people are ordering. But I'm fed up being a free postman.
  8. Half - millennium? Congrats. The more I do myself the more impressed I am by the people that reach these heights.
  9. Thursdays not great for me. Supposed to be our rehearsal night, even though it hasn't happened for 3 months, sod's law would be that the rehearsal would happen on the week you chose and I would be the guilty party. I suppose it depends on whether it's just a meet, or some form of bash, which would point to a Sunday.
  10. I have just attempted the ST James and Green Park set. Only 2 finds out of 8. Mostly thwarted by the attention of the Police and security there. What happened to you then? I'm fairly sure they know where the caches are as they seem to spend more time keeping a watch on them than the palace.
  11. I'd be up for a 'meet' if there was one going.
  12. Turns out it was handed to a forest warden with contents intact, who then passed it to the police. The official look of the cache with the sticker on it made it impossible for the police to resist tracking down the owner.
  13. I was quite sad to see that a local cache had gone missing and been archived. However, today I noticed that it had come back to life. Read the description to see that the cache had been handed in to the local police as lost property. The police contacted the owners via the website. I don't know any more details. Have a look at big view I just wondered if this was a first?
  14. I think we need to know more about your digital camera needs. Budget? any background in photography? Do you want something along the lines of an SLR that can do all the fancy tricks with manual overrides or a fairly automatic point and shoot. Personally I have gone for a Fujifilm A203, which is probably discontinued now, but the reasons might help. 1, Fits in pocket 2, Has optical zoom but when switched off lens completely retracts and gets covered. 3. Optical zoom x3. Can I emphasise that enough. Optical zoom is much more important than digital zoom. If on a restricted budget try and get into the lower end of the optical zoom range if possible. You can use the computer software to crop and zoom, so long as you have good optics and enough pixels. 4. The megapixel problem. If you have a huge resolution, file size will be huge, take ages to download, take up disk space get less on the memory card. I'm really happy with 2 Megapixels. More is better if you are going to crop and zoom. 5. Battery type. Mine takes AA. If I'm out and can't get to a recharger, I can buy non rechargers anywhere. Same size as GPS so I can take a handful of recharged ones and they go in either. Previous camera had a built in rechargable and once the battery was dead that was it. 6. How to transfer pics to computer. I've gone for USB and that works for me. Previously I had a card reader but this was a pain. I used a company called internetcamerasdirect and they were very helpful.
  15. I can confirm that this is the correct address. Visited their profile and e-mailed from there. While there, visit their website to reveal the 'unusual' nature of their e-mail address. Or am I the only person ignorant on this subject
  16. Hmm - that's an interesting one. I don't see too much wrong with this. I don't make a habit of clearing the local area of TBs - but if there is a particular TB that I'm after; say an Interception bug or similar "clue bug", or even just one that I can help on it's way; then I have no qualms about making a return visit to retrieve it. Nor me. A yellow Jeep TB turned up in the first ever cache I did, the one closest to home, so I just couldn't resist. Particulalrly as I was the only visitor to the cache in about 8 months apart from the TB drop off, which was also a re-visit. So I went, grabbed the TB and moved it to a more active cache (which was also a re-visit)
  17. How much does a TB tag cost? (I know the answer BTW just adding perspective) Also, not meaning to diminish the crime, just pointing out that TB tags are quite high price items as well and quite a loss when they go AWOL.
  18. OK I've put my bid/contribution offer to cave troll & Joan (hoping that they will hold the kitty)
  19. How about a whip round, couple of quid each to contribute to a replacement GPS? A little news article with UK geocachers mentioned might look nice.
  20. Excellent news. Added to the definitive list I hope? Still preparing to tackle my local council. But it's a bit of a dilemma as I know there are already caches on their land and if I draw attention to geocaching it mught be counterproductive.
