  1. Last time I saw a problem like this the author had 2 'default' files. one was default.htm and one was default.html One was being sent out as standard when you hit the site, while the other was being sent out when you used any link to go back to the homepage. I don't think that 's the problem here..... but you never know.
  2. Rough translation: A version of a product that's been through the very first trials in the privacy of your own back bedroom/friends and family 'here, what do you think, is this a runner?' (that's the Alpha version) and got to the stage where you think you have the makings of something that could be made to work. The underlying principle is documented well enough that no-one else could nick it and claim it's theirs. You know it has lots of faults, but you don't mind sharing them with others. In fact the more people that look at it, at their own risk, and suggest changes, thereby acting as free 'development and research department' the better. Sorry.... I've just described Windows XP. Seriously though. I think the maps are a real runner. First impression is the counter-intuitive opening of the listing when you draw a box around an area. I would expect it to zoom into that box. Also when the listing opens there is no obvious way to get back to the map. It is in fact still open in the original window but as I had about 8 windows open at the time I didn't spot that.
  3. As far as I can see cache waypoints are issued sequentially, using the 9 digits and then the letters of the alphabet e.g. they get up to 9 and then next comes A, B C, etc once they hit Z the place value kicks in and we go 10, 11 etc. I'm not sure if all letters are used e.g. O and 0 would be too easily confused That means that (ignoring the GC part at the start) there must be some caches that have acquired waypoint names 'of significance' rather like a personalised number plate on a car. e.g. I have found gcM0NK gcGCGC gc 1234 gcM1NK have you found any others? Note current latest most significant figure issued is M, so dont go looking for words that start N, O P etc. (I'm running out of work avoidance ideas - I guess I had better get back to the report - after I have cleaned the mouse, checked the height of my chair, tidied the hard disk....)
  4. It's the long dark nights up there. They are all hunkered down and can only go out for 2 hours a day. SO all they can do is send posts here.
  5. Well done... hear's to teh future BAFTA (or is it DAFTA?)
  6. I can pick it up if no-one else gets there this week. Which direction to get it to Inukshuk?
  7. OK men - good disguises, the muggles will never spot you - now this is what we are looking for. Get out there and leave no stone unturned. I want 3 finds before lunchtime.
  8. As I understand it, you should give all the co-ordinates for all the stages in the 'notes to reviewer' section of the form so that they can see where all the parts are meant to be when the approve/review or what ever they do these days. However, I'm talking from virtual ignorance as I have yet to place a cache. (5 Ammo boxes in shed, caches sheets laminated today, getting ready to rumble)
  9. In addition to the standard 'you have found this cache' leaflet which I have now got from the resource pager, I remember seeing somewhere that somone had developed a leaflet about geocaching that emphasised the good points e.g. CITO, and that we followed rules when placing caches. Guess what, I can't find the link now I want it. Can you help?
  10. Ok... I think it's time to put this thread to bed. I've got the info I need.
  11. Marnie (the other half of the team - that actually finds most of the caches) is claiming Sandra Bullock. She suggests Kevin Spacey for me... don't see that myself.. . I was hoping for a young Robert Lindsay myself... but no.
  12. I'd leave it. Otherwise all caches end up the same... 200 yds from car park.. under the fallen log. Nice to have a cache that appeals to the minority.
  13. Thanks for that. As the creator of the thread I now have the answers I wanted. As I said at the top, not over keen on them myself but I thought I had a really good idea. I'll just have to hang on and hope they come back to life in one form or another.
  14. Although not a great lover of anything other than 'real' and fairly large caches... after all that it what this sport is supposed to be about... I have an idea for a locationless cache. However, I have not idea how to create one. I looked at the form for registering a cache this did not have locationless as an option. Are these no longer possible to create? Or is there a different process?
  15. The British Library Cache seems to be able to take TBs, (not found it yet myself... working my way nearer now)
  16. It's not the heated screen, or for that matter the windscreen wiper sensors tha cause a problem, works fine in Toyota Avensis with wiper sensors. It is the heat reflective screen used in Renaults including the Laguna. Also a problem in a Citroen Xsara a few weeks ago. This is what persuaded me to get a bluetooth GPS reciever for my PDA sat nav. I can mount the receiver anywhere in the car. Heat reflective windows are usually only used for the front screen. However, If I mount it elsewhere I can't power it so I only have 30 hours on batteries.
  17. Distinctly possible, but then again I might still not have started Christmas shopping.
  18. If this story is to be believed there will be at least one cache in London that you can find and log straight away, provided you have the right eqpt. Might be useful for those on a day trip to be able to log the finds at the end of a day, or to get those clue photos you left behind.
  19. Pouring with rain in London. I hope the paths aren't flooded for Saturday. New cache in the area to be done.
  20. When I teach media classes the 2 key words are: PURPOSE and AUDIENCE i.e. what are you trying to achieve and who are you trying to tell. The audience part then expands into audience expectation. Once you have identified 'who' you then need to work out 'how'. i.e. what kind of presentation do they like/tolerate/get affected by. i.e. sub 25 yrs, banging house music, text scrolling by so fast you can't read it, camera held at any angle other than vertical, preferrably at least one other picture-in-picture to to be as distracting as possible. Voice over repeating the same info at least 3 times. (Have you watched the latest Horizon series lately... how little material can you spread into 50 mins) Any way, you get the picture. I think Purpose is the most difficult here.... back to the debate... do we want a lot of people knowing about us? Do we want a lot of cachers. Do we want landowners to be more forgiving? (yes to the last one for me, but the others are still in the balance)
  21. Just seen this story on the BBC Website Motorised vehicles to be banned (temporarily).
  22. Funny, Battersea park came up at the London Get Together as a surprisingly barren area. Perhaps you could combine your visit with a recce for good places to place?
