This "crappy firefox" has been my trusted browser for 25 years now (First as Netscape then Mozilla and now Firefox) so they must be doing something right.

If nothing happens when downloading you probably haven't told Firefox what to do with the file extension.

BTW, IE is out of date for a long time, you should have gotten rid of it long time ago ;)

Your wrong.  If I had gotten rid of it, I couldn't have download PQs for today. Thanks to IE I have my pq.

I just submitted a query using firefox and it arrived and I downloaded the file as per usual.

What do you mean per usual ? I continue to get a blank white screen when clicking the download option .

  3. I was told in these forums and GC that INTERNET EXPLORER is out of date. I'm told to replace with Firefox or others. So I choose Firefox and finally get it setup. Bad choice as it's not possible to download PQs. When clicking on GCs PQ email I get the usual view results and download now options. When clicking download now,  only get a WHITE BLANK screen and nothing else. The only way to get PQs is to use the trusty INTERNET EXPLORER. Good thing I saved it.

Is there anyway to fix crappy firefox so downloads are possible ?

  4. The trusty handheld GPS is the way to go. Phones are unreliable with limited battery power. To many times we see newbie hides that are 100s of feet off. I only use my phone for lab caches and talking to people. Yes, you can actually speak to another person with no needing to type many letters.

Install most any browser such as Firefox or Chrome and it will ask if you want to import Favorites.  Edge can do that, too.

I tried installing firefox and selected import favorites but that didn't happen.  To much BS and trying to get me phone apps not user friendly. Just wanted the browser and favorites/bookmarks. Ended up having to use their help page to import favorites. I knew it wouldn't be easy.

I'm not here to tell you how to live your life, but as of 2016, IE11 is a dead platform.  It is so dead that the Microsoft  FAQ announcing it is a dead platform is only available via web.archive.org:

You might consider switching to something that programmers here and on other websites will continue to support.

The site may not perform at 100% on Netscape Navigator, either, but that doesn't mean that maintaining backwards compatibility with either that or IE11 is a priority.

I'm not a computer expert. Is there an easy conversion including saving existing favorite links?

Wow, that's some great detective work right there! :D  So it is "the old browser" after all.  Kinda.

But why did this issue happen now?  I guess, someone in IT converted a bunch of icons in the past couple of days?

Could they upconvert it? Why convert in the first place? If it was working why mess with it?

I'm getting it on IE11 in Windows 10.  Various little icons are not loading throughout the site.  I tried logging out/in, I tried clearing browser cache and history.  No effect.

This started recently, maybe in the past couple of days.  I wonder what happened.  I'm not immediately seeing a way to fix the stars.  But at some point, we gotta switch to a modern browser anyway.  IE11 is very old, not updated, major web services are warning us that they will stop supporting it, and functions are deprecating.

Thank You, This is also what I see. All the sudden stars go missing ? Something recent caused them to vanish and if MS doesn't update anymore Groundspeak must have done something. I did restart but it didn't help.

Agreed. Two months seems far too soon to be sending out a CHS warning, especially given the D/T.

We've been under the impression that the CHS is some kind of complicated algorithm, but more and more I'm starting to suspect that it's a fairly simple and unsophisticated query which isn't adequately accounting for variables in the way it should be.

Actually it has been active only 1 month and a few days. Published 10-10-19 and GC auto email received  11-2-19. The hide was active less than a month before they hit me with the email.

And, especially in the case of it not being that much of an effort to check on, why not pay it a visit once every couple of months? As mentioned, an OM log on a 2 month old 5/5 with lots of DNFs would absolutely be an assurance that the cache is indeed still findable and likely keep interest and excitement up.

If you read my logs, I would have checked if I felt there was a problem . The hide is 99.9% muggle proof. There's other reasons I will not get into. When I did check it yesterday it was in fine shape and exactly how I originally placed it.

It doesn't look like a bug to me. I don't like it, but the official dogma is that lots of DNFs equal "it's missing", and while D/T might be considered a factor, the cache I think you're talking about has never been found despite many attempts, so it's exactly the kind of cache that GS thinks shouldn't be tolerate. In other words, it's not a bug, it's a feature, just a dumb feature.

GS should understand not everyone likes P&Gs. Many enjoy the challenge of a tough hide like this one. Variety is the spice of life.

  12. A couple weeks ago I received groudspeak's HQ automated computer generated email on my 5-5 hide. The one that states your cache may need help. Apparently there's a flaw in the programming that it does not consider D.T. and experience of the hider. Never ever trust a computer.

Groundspeak please fix so the unneeded emails stop.
