  1. Seeing how this thread has degraded to attacking the reviewer and making assumed statements I think this topic has run its course. If you go back and re-read the OP you will see where it stated the reviewer actually was in contact with SC DOT. Sadly it is what it is and ripping the reviewer in a state you do not live in is not going to solve anything, instead it just makes us a better cacher by having to find different more unique places to hide, nothing wrong with that.
  2. Then you found a coin that is not activated and if it is trackable then you can trace it back to what company produced it and get the code from them to either activate it or just keep it for a personal collection.
  3. Don't mind him, he gets a swelled blue box from time to time Did you check to make sure it was not listed somewhere else? I found a cache once that was assumed to have gone missing, I talked with the owner of the cache that was at the current location, turns out the old cache was also his and he was happy to see it was found and went out and retrieved it. Just to show how old the cache was, the container was the old AOL CD tins they use to sent out.
  4. Or Waffle House...Kroger...Food Lion...etc...etc..
  5. They got pretty upset with people messing up the old time pieces on the porches. Now I do not know the final outcome of the whole Cracker Barrel issue but at one time I heard it was going to be left up to the manager of each store and the placement had to be away from the porch.
  6. A good friend of mine (a geocacher ) once asked a guy in a park if he was looking for the same thing he was looking for....well my friend was looking for the cache, the other guy...well....you can figure it out...so it might NOT be best to just ask "Hey you looking for what I'm looking for..." More then likely a GPS in the hand is usually a pretty good clue...
  7. Someone has broken out the golden spoon I see.... First for the reviewer, the current reviewer for SC has done a wonderful job in research on this topic and has spent a lot of time in conversation with people from DOT and others who have talked to the DOT. The DOT it seems is not so much concerned for the placement issue as much as the safety issue that could arise from both the cacher and people driving by. I mean if you only have a few inches between you, a guardrail and the road I think safety would be a concern While we do take chances sometime in doing some caches that is our choice yes, but if we are put into a siutation where it might not be safe for stupid reasons why risk it? well unless you are a number junkie...but anyways you get the point.
  8. The "party line" is that it is not so much the placement of the cache but the dangers that could arise from the geocacher and the people driving by. This came from a cacher who called the DOT as a concerned citizen and was giving that answer.
  9. Dolly Express (GCV47N) Welcome To Bear County (GCMK7Y) Apple Valley Cache (GCQYGV) Jacque's Walkway (GCJMD6) White Oak Flats (GCMGDZ) Going To Gatlinburg (GCB42D) Ogle Cache (GCD97A) Elkmont Cabins (GCC2C2) and Elkmont Virtual Cache (GCG1FC) are both drive by virts but in a ghost town so very interesting
  10. If you post parking coords and the final cache is obtained from following a marked path then it would be listed as a puzzle
  11. All Wherigo caches should have a set difficulty of 5 since they require special equipment. Can you filter out caches based on D/T ratings?

  17. And I quote from the fellow geocacher I was with who said this
  18. All I will say is I have a friend and fellow geocacher who once asked another guy in the park who he thought was a geocacher "Are You Looking For What I am Looking For"...you can imagine the rest....
  19. I am pretty sure if you look hard enough you might find the answers you seek other places 3 years and counting for me and have fully enjoyed the guidelines and even have learned to become a better geocacher from them and the help of local reviewers
  20. Maps sometimes will not show the correct area, I once had a cache in a park and every map showed it off the park land. That being said... It is better to be caught by a cache cop then the real cops any day...not say cache cops are good or anything
