  2. I hope to be setting out 2 caches this weekend. One them is already on the ground but will not be posted until Sunday because of a 10k race on the trail Saturday. I originally set it up as a micro (logging only) but I am having second thoughts. My question is once you set up a cache and the descriptions are posted in the database can you at a later date upgrade/edit the original or do you have to remove it and start over? Thanks, Jim massillon ohio stark county skywarn packet radio, aprs long haul 802.11b, warchalking linux, os x geocaching geodashing gps art recumbent bikes extreme kites
  3. What would be some features of your dream GPS? I for one would like to see the serial interface go away. I suggest "bluetooth" instead or some other wireless interface. If your like me you are constantly swaping cables on the back of your PC. How about some kind of a color "heads up display" you wear like glasses? I Guess I want to much? j. massillon ohio stark county skywarn packet radio, aprs long haul 802.11b, warchalking linux, os x geocaching geodashing gps art recumbent bikes extreme kites

  5. I was out yesturday benchmarking and I am pretty sure I was standing right on top of a survey disk. What would make a good stand up probing tool? I want to return to this site again but I want to be subtle as I can. It's close to a busy road and it's between a residence and a bussiness. Also what do you usually tell someone if you ask for permission to remove some of the grass or covering? I would think if they knew you were just playing a sport most people would just tell you to get lost. j. massillon ohio stark county skywarn packet radio, aprs long haul 802.11b, warchalking linux, os x geocaching geodashing gps art recumbent bikes extreme kites
  6. I know this has nothing to do with geocaching but I thought this could become another gps game/sport if it ever comes to this country. GPS is not specifically mentioned, "location based" game with gsm phones in real time. I am only assuming gps might be used..... 7. I found these this morning, could this be the same or similar to what the white plusses are for? 8. Is there a technical name for this type of mark so I can search around on the web to find more information? Jim massillon ohio stark county skywarn packet radio, aprs long haul 802.11b, warchalking linux, os x geocaching geodashing gps art recumbent bikes extreme kites
  9. Any other sources of information on benchmarking? I followed the link from the main benchmark page and some of the reading is hard to follow because of some of the terms used. (surveyor speak?) 10. I use the moving map display and keep zooming in so I can "see" the cache. This works for me as long as I am getting good signals from the sats. In heavy cover where the signal is degraded I agree with the last post you might have to go to a compass bearing. 13. Laura, I cannot answer some of your first questions but I have found that some caches have more than one "approach" make sure you read all of the clues in the details, example one time my gps indicated I had past the cache and it looked like I was going to have to go through some pretty nasty brush, I re-read the hints and it said to continue down the path which I did and circled the cache for a bit and ran into another path that took me right to the cache without getting too close to nature. ) Keep at it and hope you have good luck on your next try! 17. Does anyone use an frs radio while geocaching? Is there an official geocaching channel? j.
  18. I went on my first "geo" outing today, and I was out under some pretty dense foilage. My Garmin III went kind of wacko.... Is this a trait of all GPSs or are some of the newer models "hotter" under the trees? Jim
