started with an etrex legend, and just got metro guide v4, i live in ontario as well and would say the mappin software is great. two minor probs with the legend, 8mb not a lot but it is good a decent size, deffinately wouldn't want anything smaller. and the compass not electronic, not a big deal i care that it doesn't have one because i carry a regular compass with me, some people say they are nice others say its a waste of batteries.
personal choice.
i like my etrex would have got a 60cs or merigold but budget was a factor and it is my starter unit. legend good. MGv4 good.
legend + mgv4= great combination

i have a etrex legend, i found it to be way off the first time i used it but then it settled down and was fine.
here are my suggestions:
1) make sure the unit is set to normal and not battery saver
2) try turning waas on and off like some one else mentioned.
3) hold the unit horizontal when in use
4) when marking a way point lay the gps down and walk away from it for a few min then walk back up and quickly mark the way point. your body can affect the view of the sky your gpsr gets.
5) listen to everyone elses idea's
6) they are not 100% accurate many things affect there use.
enjoy and i hope this helps

i'm sure this has been done before but its a first for me. I got my first cache approved on the weekend and wouldn't you know it some one found it the next day. to me its cool and a great feeling to hide your first cache. to when someone finds it it's even more exciting. the feeling is great to place your first cache and give back to all the great caches who have placed caches for you to find. i'm sure the feeling of getting your first cache stole isn't so great but thats a differnt story. i think people may start to for get about this feeling as their numbers of placements, FTF and find rise. we all need to think back to our first cache placed, it is a great feeling and one that should be forgotten.
a thought form RM and his first placement
cheers and happy hunting.

don't know if anyone has said it, but try http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/gpsant.htm this re-radiatind antenna with work with anything, i don't have it but have read a lot about it, i would like one but i just got a digital camera instead.
-
i would have to say lebaron is good as that is where i got mine but i have had good experience with gps central as well. on the note of canadian tire and there price match, i wouldn't waste your time i tried that with the lebaron price and the lady lied to me and said it was the same price there, and personaly i would rather give my money to place with knowledge (not CT) and somewhere that is going to give you a good price right away. so stay away from CT. and get it from gpscentral or lebaron, both good and knowledgeable places

a small note on the pics posted, PI grows in different ways. bushes small plants, and vines. it also changes colour and berries at different times of the year. somthing to keep in mind.
-
excellent thanks, got it to work now.
cheers

sounds like a good cache to me, as long as your prepaired for it. and hey look at that you warmed people about it. you've done your part with the warnings its up to them to people to fallow them. wish i could try your cache.

just got metro guidev4 and was messing around with it and gsak, but when i export from gsak to mg4 it seems that the waypoints names get changed from the usual GC code, to a sort form of the description that gask uses. like gc5c95 in gsak gets changed to batfed in mapsource, is there a way to get it just to send the the cg code as the waypoint instead of chaning it. this may sound confusing so i hope you understand what i mean, and yes i have read the manual.
cheers, thanks

great pics. to bad you didn't find it, but hey the hike looks like it was well worth it. and besides thats half the fun anyways.
-
as i am someone that can get PI just by touchin a little bit (i almost feel as if i get close to it i get it, even tho that cant happen) i would agree to make a note of it, the dificulty should not be increased, mabe the terrain, but at least post a note.
