looks like a pretty darn good unit to me. i have a legend and depending on the price difference i would have good that one. ah well.

try posting in the getting started forum you'll get more reponses there and also try doing a search for old threads there are tons of them on gps units.

no there are no waas stations up here, although is some places you can still get a signal, i'm from southern ontario and i can get a signal once in a while. although i just keep if off most of the time
-
not sure if this will help. but the legend does not have a electronic compass, you need to be moving for it to work as well as the pointer, so you need to be moving in order for it to tell you which was in north and which way to go. it takes a few seconds to re-adjust once you start moving too. the second problem it might be is that when you get real close to the cache, say about 5m, the needle might start to jump around because the gpsr keeps updating where it is and it has to calulated that position with where the cache is. if thats the case thats when you stop lookin at the gpsr and start seaching around.
hope this helps and happy hunting

what about non rechargeable, where can they be dropped off
-
if its a newly hidden cache the maps take either a few days or a few finds. you can use the links to mapquest and other maps to see where the cache is placed without the gc map on the page. hope that helps. cheers and happy hunting

try using easygps or gask for manageing waypoints both are free. easygps is really basic while gsak has many features that you may like. remember waypoints are either lox or gpx file formats.

i know this has been talked about but i would like to bring it up here.
would it be possible to bring canadian benchmarks to the gc website so we can search and log them like our friends south of the boarder.

I still have my Map Guide Pro that I logged 54 caches on and I still use it on caches with a lot of tree cover and or deep valleys. But I now use my 60c for alot of the caching that I do. But the wife thinks I bought the 60 for road navigation, so we could get rid of all the maps in the car. (Married, no kids, so we do ALOT of road trips.)
Collecting GPSr sort of became an obsession. You can never have to many. But now the wife says I have to give up some. Any one need a GPS?
1-Nav12 (available)
1-NAV200 (sold)
1-GM100 (sold)
1-Map Guide Pro (available)
1-eMap (available)
1-Legend (available)
1-GPSMAP76
2-60C (1 is available)(NEW)
4-Geko 201 (For the scouts to use)
Baston (I feel lost with out my toys.)
whats the prices for the units. never can have to many toys

ok first how this relates to geocaching. i want the scanner to recieve frs/gmr signals.
ok so my question is which radio scanner should i get.
1) must be a hand help, with the ability to attach an antenna i can use in the car (i have an old cb antenna i would use.)
2) i want it to get and my frequencies as possible.
3) must be able to recieve frs/gmr frequencies.
4)decent amout of channels
5) trunking is not that big of a deal
6) and under $350 cdn
any sugestions is a great help
thanks. happy hunting

There are even more who enjoy caching but forums in general are not their cup of tea
That's it I think. Forums aren't for everyone. One of the great things about this game is that everyone can pick the aspects of it that they enjoy - Micros, locationless, virtuals, benchmarks, long hikes vs. drive ups, forums, group events ....
I like to lurk in the forums and post occasionally. Others like to just lurk or to post frequently or to stay out of the forums completely. On the other hand I never participate in group events, which I know that many others enjoy.
i think that about covers it, different people have different tastes. bob likes micros bill doesn't, bill likes the forums and bob doesn't. i need not say more the quoted poster said it quit well.

there is a forum all about benchmarks here in ground speak open that forum which is about three forums below this one in the main page and at the top there is a FAQ link that explains benchmarks.
cheer and happy hunting

I agree with your wife. spring hides do make for hard finds later in the the year. if there is one thing that is good about early spring hides (winter and late fall) is there is no tree cover to hinder your gpsr. yes you get all the other factors but you get better reception in the spring. so harder find yes. better co-ords yes.

sounds cool i'll have to give it a try

here in ontario i have only got wass once so i keep it off
I have a different question about WAAS.I heard it drains your batteries quicker if enabled. My question is if I have WAAS enabled, but it isn't picking up any of the WAAS satellites will it's use still drain the batteries quicker?
and to answer the last qestion i believe it does. your unit is always trying to lock on to those extra sats so it has to use more power to do. i could be worng but i think thats the case.

for the street sign idea search for a forum about cool cache containers. there's a thread in there with a guy that put one on a sign, it was a bolt he drilled out and attached the nut to the end, pretty easy to make if have the tools or acces to them. chech out that thread there's some good stuff in there

it seems i have answered my own question by using this site http://www.geod.nrcan.gc.ca/index_e/produc...ine_data_e.html although it as well doesn't aways say what datrum to use.
-
It would certainly be easy enough to add canadian benchmarks to the geocaching site. The digital records are easily accessible and creating a database would be more time consuming than difficult unless you wrote a batch to download and convert the needed files. I've not noticed geobase mentioned here before, so for persons interested in downloading all Primary Vertical benchmarks by mapsheet they can be found in shapefile format (for Arcgis and arcview, also oziexplorer and others) or GML (Geography markup language) they can be found at http://www.geobase.ca/geobase/Geobase?&sit...d=1-002-007-001 on the the geobase data extraction site.
Hope this helps benchmark hunters,
peace,
sasquatchking
i used this link to find benchmarks and see that there is a ton in my area. the only problem is i don't know what datrum to use. It says vertical datrum but how does that convert into a format for the Gpsr to use. any help would be good.
and as you can see by my question i am interested in hunting Canadian benchmarks
