  1. google is a wonderful tool for some of these caches. it has helped me before.
  2. You might want to try this, it was put together by some cachers. (sorry i forget who did it) fill it out, generate and copy and paste it to your new cache page the selector
  3. petzl zoom, its an older model but it works great. I have the regular buld and a halogen one for times when i really need to light things up. it funs on a single 4.5v battery which can get costly, $5 cnd. although the batteries last a rather long time, also have an adapter for it that will take three regular AA batteries. the thing is great, petzl makes some really good units.
  4. here is a cache that was done about urban legends. urban legend cache
  5. welcome to the sport and hobby, before long you'll have many finds and hides. good luck with your first find and welcome
  6. not that i've doent this but why does it bother people. do other peoples numbers mean that much that you don't want them to have a found it on their own cache. I mean technically they did find it even it they did place it. just a thought and another point to be argued. its fun gettin people going.
  7. no - he wants to know when he gets his red + not when the tadpole changes - this is the wrong forum for that - you should ask that on the gc.com forum for better responses. I wouldn't worry about the plus sign - go to your home page and put what you want for your signature. yes- I know what he wants I was just merly letting him/ her know that just in case they didn't know.
  8. don't let the patch antenna fool you, i get great reception with my Legend in heavy tree cover and it has a patch antenna. patch and quad is almost like ford and chevy.
  9. PI just sucks, I have had it once before and i have it now. i've been on two differnt meds for it and the one i'm on now seems to be working, its a cream. the oils get on everything from clothes. to shoes to your bed sheets as well as pets. you have to wash everything constently. PO on the other hand didn't seem as bad as i've had it too. both nasty stuff. but hey a little plant isn't gunna stop me.
  10. you'd be surprised what a raccon can eat through
  11. it will say on the cache page if its not approved. 6 days is a while but who knows the approver maybe on holidays. remember they are volunteers.
  12. if your a premium member you can change that tadpole to be what ever you want it to say. one of the perks
  13. Sounds reasonable and fair to me. I agree, I think its a good step and it doesn't really seem to bother many of the cachers in my area. the conservation areas do a good job of maintaining parks so i don't mind this at all. ther is no fee for the permits in our area. its just a control method
  14. Yes the local conservation area in my area are also making placement only possible by permit. once a month maintence checks and anual renewal. they want to keep the number of caches limited in each area
  15. just to get a little off topic here. when carrying nalgens in the winter. carry them upside down. the top will freeze but when you turn it over to drink. you get water no need to chip the top layer of ice. Just my two cents. back on topic. thats a good idea about the insulated hose. i don't have one and at times whish i did. its hard to keep them from freezing
  16. yes average the same as you would anything. let the gpsr settle down for about 5 min and then come back and mark a waypoint. at this walk way from the cache put the Gpsr back down on the spot, let it settle and then mark a way point. do this a number of times. it is better to try and do it on different days at different times like you said you would do. take as many readings as you think you should. I'm a rookie at hides to and this is what i've done. hope it helps.
  17. there are two water caches I know of one in kingston ON where you have to drive to and one in St. Catherines ON its called Canada island and you need a boat for that one.
  18. I'm a fan of the platy. I have used both the hydration pack and the resivoir just in a back pack. if the back pack has a spot for i like it. if it doesn't i find it falls all over the place and sucks. my hydration pack is a 2L resivoir and a 10L bag. its great for a long hike or ride. fits some gear like a very light jacket. some food. and other small gear and tools. any out door store will sell them and you will find that camelback are really pricey. try cosco (sp?) as well. don't know the quality but i hear the price is good. as for other brands I can't help as the bag i got is from a local company only in canada. Although they do mail orders. check out www.mec.ca hope that helps
  19. i was told to try contacting their government as topo maps are done by the government. just a thought
  20. there is a cache up here in southern ontario that is a recipe trading cache, no idea if its going to end up in a book, but its a cool idea
  21. make it an event cache and have a poker run like they do with skidoos in the winter. or your multi would work, you could make the flop the final cache so people don't know what it is till the end and then they could post their own hand,
  22. this is not an attack on any one but people may complain and post thread after thread on this and its not going to do anything. it gets down when the volunteers have time. 1 hour to 1 week who cares, its gunna get down and then people well go out and find it. no one complains about their cache not being found in the first hours its been posted on GC.com so don't complain about how long it takes to get approved. happy hunting and hiding
  23. well by the sounds of it you want it for navigation. The legend has 8mb of memory which isn't a lot but it does the trick. your not gunna get a unit with great detail on their base maps your gunna have to buy software for that. As for signal your gunna have to leave it on the dash to get as good as your gunna get. the lengend can be hard to read in the car at times because of the small screen. it can be done tho. Also you can get a re-radiating antenna for it for use in the car. i don't have one but i've read in here that people seem to like the one from PC-mobile. try it a few more times tho, i didn't like reception the first few times i used mine but its great. hope this helps and happy hunting
