i had spoken to LWM a few weeks ago when i recieved 3 coins to distribute as part of the using the world release register.

I like his coin and asked how i could get one for my collection and he told me the only way was to trade,

To my suprise today in the post as a Cristmas/Thankyou i got one, it will take pride of place in my collection

    Thankyou LWM

  2. i whould love to join however i ownly own 1 Unactivated coin and this was a early Crismas present that i was really shocked to recieve.

the person i asked 3 weeks ago said that he only trades for them and today one in the post with a crimbo card!!

good luck to everyone and happy christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa what ever you celebrate!!

    :)

  3. here is my favourite geocacher!!

    5f6b9190-4fbe-4458-b872-02c16f6136e2.jpg

it Mini dave-in-deal (3 1/2 yrs) he comes "treasure hunting" with me on the odd occasion, i normally go when his at nursery as its easier on my back as he cant walk for too long due to a problem in his legs muscles (he normally ends up on my shoulders)

a little while ago i done Maddy's woodland walkit took about 1 1/2 hours and is aproximatly 2 miles walk over hilly woodland terrane and i had him on my sholders 90% of the time.

  4. logo.jpg

lesson one turn black star on (ok maybe you know this but if we cover all there can be no immediate mistakes)

To start it you MUST have a clear view of the sky to find 3 Satellites, but once locked it will track under trees and inside a car and also if the walls are not to thick inside a building.

when you turn it on it will have a counter, this is not how many Satellites its found but how long its taking to look.

once it has found three it will triangulate your position and show a plain compass grid and above it saying your current lat and long position.

    MainScreen.jpg

ok now you have it working!!

    lesson two - what next

    1) input the co-ordinates of the cache your after

2)search for closes cache on Geocaching website (this will show the closes from your currant lat long position)

#1 menu button (7 squares) - new waypoint

    Waypoint.png

    I. add the name of the waypoint

II. type the co-ordinates in (your keypad is lock automatically to numbers) don’t forget to change the Northings - Easting or you could be 1000miles out

III. save waypoint this will take you back to the compass.

IV. menu button (7 squares) - list waypoint, this will show all waypoints that are saved onto the phone.

    V. select the one you want (middle ball) and then click set as destination.

you will get a red arrow that points directly at the cache (ignore the N/S/E/W marks it always points to the cache)

#2 is a little easier as it names and show the waypoint and extra detail's: (there are a lot of steps but it only a takes 1 min to do all and have the cache in your phone)

    I. Click your blackberry menu button ( 7 squares one) scroll to "geocaching.com closest caches"

II. Select the cache your after, and read it.

III. there is a tab a little way down that says "LOC Waypoint File", click it and it will give you a message saying "item cannot be displayed. Do you wish to save the item?"

    a3f92d6a-f2c3-4e6a-bbad-e60a69ab5831.jpg

click on yes. and find somewhere you will be able to find it and rename it to anything as long as you know what it is i normally do a few letters like for Dover town multi I would put DTM (you need a memory card for this to work)

IV. it will bring up a download page - with the LOC file name with a blue bar that extends over it, wait until the blue bar cover the whole thing and reads completed underneath (it will also have (2.0B/s or something like that - this is how quick it downloaded it at not how much is left , if it says completed its done)

    V. click the back button (curved arrow) to take you back to the cache page and leave it there for logging your find.

VI. menu button and find switch application - find black star in the list.

VII. menu button - new waypoint

VII. this will show you a waypoint page like WPT-1 at the top and auto inputs your current lat long. click your menu button and click "import GPX/LOC file" and find the file you saved (remember where you put it and what you called it (it will show with .aspx on the end)

VIII. it will then load it and on screen show import completed and "please use the close menu" - menu button and click close

IX. press the back arrow to take you back to the compass - menu button - list waypoints

it will now show a full list including the one you have just imported from the Geocaching website (which will as show the full name and Cache number)

    X. middle ball - set as destination you are now on the compass with a red arrow pointing at the cache (ignore the N/S/E/W marks it always points to the cache)

The arrow will jump around to start as your position is being triangulated, if you start to move at 1mph it will be fixed onto the cache.

above the arrow it will display you distance to the cache (example 15.3mi then as you get closer goes to 0.2, 0.1 then goes to yards) it also has an average speed (tops out at 70mph) , i have 50 finds using black star and don’t see the need for another GPS.

i have found it to be accurate down to 1 or 2 feet but all depands on tree coverage, tall buildings, etc

** remember you left the website on the cache your after once you have the log filled in exit black star and click on your web browser, it will still be on the cache page, all you have to do is scroll to log find and fill it in there and then, i normally do it sat by the cache and on some occasions while the cache is still open i front of me.

  5. Does anyone know someone in the UK with Prader-Willi Syndrome?

I've just had some PWSA (UK) Geocoins minted and started distributing around the UK and happy to let some go for adoption by people with PWS.

Please spread the word quickly as limited stock

For more information on PWSA go to

never heared of it, but my mum is an active part of the william syndrome organisation, she has been all over to track and record children with the syndrome and helped to produce a specific child growth chart as they grow at different rates and are generally smaller then the children without the syndrome.

  6. some cahcers leave there personal calling card for the CO to have< if the cache is overflowing with them then maybe the CO need to do a maintenace visit.

if its that full they ovioulsly havent checked it in a while.

they can then either keep/ dispoce of the unwanted sig cards.

    file a needs maintenance!!

    EDIT to add:

as for the religious items - i belive they are inapropriate and should be removed, geocaching is aimed at all so this reliougs items form a minority group or could be precieved as forcing on someone

  7. when i first started i was using a Tim Tim but it said i had arrived when i was withing 10 meters or so of the cache.

i then got my blackberry adn have been running black star ever since i have found 50 with my blackstar all with no problems and its free!!

  8. I thought of doin gthis but then thought its not personal:

so after a little thought i come up with this -

    c1da9f41-dd14-4b8b-a2ed-f468631e0ce7.jpg

On the side photoed you can see my Avatar used on the forum and the geocaching website, on the other it says:

    Dave_in_Deal

    TFTC

    #XX

the XX - is numbered to corispond with my cache find number - today i placed #52

i bought the chips of a ?-Bay place 100 (including P&P) was £5 the stickers were £2 for 700 and then printed them on my home PC.

If the chips are to big to fit (like the micro shown above) i just take a photo and add it to the log, i also have them in my earth cache finds to prove its me taking the photo (see below).

  9. Not sure if you will consider me or not becacue i have a few more than 5 post's on the forum but have only 5 tracker that are in circulation (it shows 7 on my profile but 2 of them are my personal collection that will not travel< when i first started collecting i thought you had to activate them> i didnt realise you could have them as long as you wanted without activation.

if a newer person comes along let them have it!!

  10. i have been looking in to producing a personal homemade tracker to trade and use as FTF and cointest's

    the currant policy states:

As of today, some new changes have been made to the Groundspeak Geocoin Policy stated above.

The Specific changes (including section headers) are detailed below:

    Order Details:

    2. If 50 codes or more are ordered, a custom name may be requested.

    (Formerly 100 codes)

    3. If 50 codes or more are ordered, a custom icon may be ordered (details below).

    (Formerly 250 codes)

    3. If 50 codes or more are ordered for a geocaching event, a custom name may be requested, a custom icon may be ordered and the “EV” prefix may be requested.

    (Formerly 250 codes)

    Custom Coin Icons:

    4. 50 code minimum order.

    (Formerly 250 codes)

    Custom Code Series:

    1. Following the first order of 1,000 codes for a custom prefix series, future orders for the same custom prefix with a new icon only require a 100 code minimum.

    (Formerly 250 code minimum)

    Cost and Details:

    2. There is a 50 code minimum purchase required (although custom prefixes require a 1,000 code minimum order).

    (Formerly 100 codes)

Where can i buy the 50 codes and get the unique icon?? i have looked on the Groundspeak shop but cant find anywhere to buy only the codes

  11. a picture of the strangest location you would least expect a photo to be taken!!

included in the photo must be your username on a piece of paper (so we know it has been taken for the cointest not some old one you dragged up from some dodgy photo album under your bed)

they can be as imaginative or as plain as you like but not the normal setting< if this is picked i got a great one or two already thought of!!

  12. im always happy to adopt a coin

but please give them to owners who have not adopted yet or have less travellers than me - currantly 7 (only 3 of them are travelers and 1 of them my personal tracker)

i love to track there movements and read the cache description every every stop they make i even try to solve any puzzles, even though i will never visit the cache.

  13. Ok here is my initial idea for a new coin collection.

This is my first draft of the coins so please be nice!! :)

Please give me any feedback good :santa: or bad :)

Due to the recent problems in my personal coin and not much interest (due to copyright problems)

I thought rather then continuing down that line, I whould plug it into a possable winning collection, that i know collector's may be more interested in

    So here we go>>>>>>>>>>>

i am open to sugestions about what to do behing the animals??

i also have at least 6 more animals i already play to give a grin too - but again open for sugestions.

**I was planning on doing the monkey ones as NOT for sale and for trade, cointest and maybe a few FTF prizes.

i havent thought of metal but they will be enamle coloured with poxy tops.

    all input apreciated

  14. i have been caching for about a year now and have only got 1 FTF, this was becacuse i found it just as i was leaving for work (i was searching from my work co-ords to grap a close one on the way home)

The many people that get the FTF are Premium members - you get a notification message every time a new cache is published in there notification area.

I started around the same time as another member on here and they immidiatly become a PM they are up to FTF # 21

i not to bothered about the FTF's i dont get the chance that often to go out as soon as one is published due to work or family but am happy when i get there,

i have had the Co-ords for about 6 caches in my area - either bonus or puzzles or locatonless that i have solved but just haven had the time to get out and find them.

dont worry if your 6th 8th or even 1000th just enjoy the day and excitment of eventualy finding it and putting your name in the log.

  15. My updated list:

    1. Tennessee Jed

    2. FScout

    3. daveindeal

    7. KD8ATF

    8. murphyrulez

    9. emtfire10

All cachers above have been sent adoption requests.

My apologies for any delays. These coins will be place in a TB Hotel tomorrow.

Thankyou 2Golfers, The adoption was a complete success and my new bundle of joy is winging its way to me via Royal, Air, Snail Cache mail.

its got a 4000 mile journey to reach me over thebig pond, and it will be worth the wait to hold it!!

  16. As some of you may be aware (or not) i started to produce a signature coin and was in the final stages with the proof, then it come to light that the picture that i use as my avatar (the main image on the coin) is a registered tradmark for a company.

i have got permission from them now to use the image (as long as it has there web link) but i have had people that was interested say that they arnt now as this is now a promotional item rather then a signature item.

i have had a new avatar created thausing a free clipart image that has been customised by myself.

shall i change my Signature coins, Avatar and Signature item that i leave in the caches.

  17. if all else fails PM me and ill give you my address to mail it to.

i live in Dover UK, with a Hotel just up the road<between the tunnel and the ferries, this opens up France to any geocacher coming or going thru dover, the hotel is visited at least once every two weeks.

  18. yes< you can dip them.....

this is exactly what you do with a personal tracker, you dip it in as you dont leave it there.

i also have a signature chip, that i leave in every cache, they are numericaly numbers to corrispond with the cache find im on if they dont fit in the cache due to any reason, ie a micro, nano, virtual i take a photo, i also have my signature chip in any photo's i submit for earth caches.
