  1. Geochecker.com is working fine for me. ????
  2. If you dont want to play around with Registry uninstall mapsource. Copy the disks into a folder ( call it Topo or Mapsource or whatever ) with east and west disk in there own folder and install it from there, the exe file is in the West folder.
  3. You could download the PQ`s before you leave and load the caches as POI`s with Garmin free POI Loader and the help of GSAK (free with nag screen or $25) and this macro ( free). There is an 88 character limit on each page so if it goes over that it will create more POI pages. I load the caches as waypoint ( or as geocaches if you use this feature ) and POI with just the hints loaded with the POI. If I do need the hint I just do a find/POI option to look it up. Your almost unlimited to POI`s which load on the SD card. There is a way to turn POI`s into waypoints on the gps.
  4. You say its "recalibrating" when I think you mean recalculating the route. The maps from gpsfiledepot do not auto route. You would need City Select or City Navigator for this. The base maps that come on the unit are very very poor at auto routing and are pretty much useless for this. As far as the topo from there, are you sure they are on? It should say "Show/hide mti_MA" or "Show/hide mti_NH" in the map set up page, not "show/hide IbcyusUSA". If you also have IbcyusUSA install you will have to turn that off as it will show over either of those 2 map sets or any other one you have turned on. You can only view one map at a time.
  5. I believe Lees option will just give you the ability to bring with the gpx file. The HCx does not read gpx (cache) files off the card. You will still need a program to install the gpx files to the flash memory of the gps unit.
  6. You can load the caches as POI`s with Garmin free POI Loader and the help of GSAK (free with nag screen or $25) and this macro ( free). There is an 88 character limit on each page so if it goes over that it will create more POI pages. I load the caches as waypoint ( or as geocaches if you use this feature ) and POI with just the hints loaded with the POI. If I do need the hint I just do a find/POI option to look it up. There is also an option in GSAK to load the hints with the waypoint but you are limited to 30 characters total in the field note section. Another hint. for 4 or less character search on these boards go to google and do an advance search and just search Groundspeak.com in the domain part.
  7. A few options. 1)You could copy and paste the hints from the web page into the waypoint field note section in mapsource. Limited to 30 characters total in the field note section. Or if your a Premium Member download as .gpx files or run PQ`s and then use any of these options. 2) You can load the caches as POI`s with Garmin free POI Loader and the help of GSAK (free with nag screen or $25) and this macro ( free). There is an 88 character limit on each page so if it goes over that it will create more POI pages. I load the caches as waypoint ( or as geocaches if you use this feature ) and POI with just the hints loaded with the POI. If I do need the hint I just do a find/POI option to look it up. 3) There is also an option in GSAK to load the hints with the waypoint but you are still limited to 30 characters total in the field note section. 4) EasyGPS also has the option to send hints from .gpx files. 30 character limit again.
  8. When you say "dying" just what do you mean? Charging problem/battery? Lots of places selling batteries to put in it in the $16-25 range.
  9. If your not interested in routing there are the free maps available from GPSFileDepot Of course then you will want a bigger micro SD card to put in it.
  10. My PN-30 arrived today from REI. Bought Cache Register but cant install it. Have to update xp to service pack 3 first. I should have been updating all along so thats my own fault. Now into 2 1/2 hours of updates (103 of them total) with 18 more to go.
  11. You can load the caches as POI`s with Garmin free POI Loader and the help of GSAK (free with nag screen or $25) and this macro ( free). 12. advance search on Google.com and search Groundspeak.com only on the domain name.
  13. Were still trying to decide, not going to far cause I dont trust my truck enough for a big trip. Got it narrowed down though to the UP MI, Black Hills, Ely or Grand Marais MN (pretty much home but far enough to forget). Still trying to spot a live moose for Gonsolo so that has us leaning towards Ely. Everyone`s packages went out yesterday or today except from one who still hasnt sent me there address which might be good news for someone else. Giving them a few more days/week. And I goofed on someones and they get a free coin out of it. I even have mailers left over so might put up some more coins.
  14. Going on vacation sale. $2.00 shipping $.50 each additional coin for USA, Canada. E-mail for other countries. E-mail me with questions or if you want, no PM`s. Paypal. Unactivate or if I goof and find out I did activate them it will be yours free along with adoption. I have more coins to put up but dont have anymore mailers. 15. Just knowing that we might of helped a brother cacher is thanks enough for some.
  16. Yes you can. You can get around the 30 character limit by loading the caches as POI`s with Garmin free POI Loader and the help of GSAK (free with nag screen or $25) and this macro ( free). There is an 88 character limit on each page so if it goes over that it will create more POI pages. I load the caches as waypoint ( or as geocaches if you use this feature ) and POI with just the hints loaded with the POI. If I do need the hint I just do a find/POI option to look it up. You could also copy and paste the hints into the waypoint field note section in mapsource but run into the 30 character limit for waypoints. EasyGPS also has the option to load the hints but again the 30 limit.
  17. Do you have it set to "follow road" instead of "offroad"?
  18. You would need to use some other software. With EasyGPS (free) you could put the hints in the field section but are limited to 30 characters. You could use GSAK (free to use but nag screen or $25) and Special Tags. There are so many options on this one. You can put some info in the waypoint title (up to 14 characters), in the field note section. But you run into the limit again. Or you could use GSAK and Garmins POI Loader (free) and this Macro (free) and load that info as POI`s. I load them as POI with just the hints, you then have up to 88 characters available but might use multi POI`s doing it if the hint is over 88 characters. I also still load them as waypoints so you can use the geocaching feature of the 60CSX if you want and if you need the hint just do a find/POI. Using the POI macro you can get some of the cache info also, more likely across a number of POI`s so you have go to mulit POI pages. GSAK is a little daunting but you can do so many things with it its worth it to play around with it.
  19. If you have no interest in auto routing with the gps, take a look at gpsfiledepot maps.
  20. One way would be to open the waypoint file in mapsource and then copy and paste the hint into the field note section of the waypoint. You are limited to 30 characters though. All below need you to use a .gpx file. Another way would be to use EASYGPS (free). There is a setting in there to add the hints to the comment field. Again the 30 character limit. Another way would be to use GSAK (free to use but a nag screen or $25). There are Special Tags for adding the hints but again your limited to the 30 characters for waypoints. Another way would be to use GSAK but also Garmins POI loader (free) and GSAK macro (free). I load them as POI with just the hints, you then have up to 88 characters available but might use multi POI`s doing it if the hint is over 88 characters. I also still load them as waypoints so you can use the geocaching feature of the 60CSX if you want and if you need the hint just do a find/POI. But using the POI macro you can get some of the cache info also, possibly across a number of POI`s.
  21. If I remember right, GC and the forums are different. You have to register on the forums also. Its been a while so I could be wrong here.
  22. Take a look at this page and see if does what your looking for. I have mine set up so its just loading the hints.
