  12. Last month I did a couple Power Point presentations on Geocaching at local Co. parks. As I was making some modifications to the Power Points I found, I got to playing wiht GC.com features. I remember coming across a feature which which brought up a Google Map showiing where all the TBs/coins were located in my area. Ok... I can't find that again. Is it real or am I dreaming??? I thought it was a section or choice that said "Find Trackables near you".
  13. Thanks bunches!!! Hmmmmm looks like a rainy day project, to go back and fix/add to what I have in there or at least copy and past into the coding. Darnit!! and I thought this would be easy!! LOL Thanks again!! Fu
  14. I utilized the info given here and I got the pic that I wanted, to show up on my cache page. the only problem is that by clicking the HTML box, all the text shifted and all the info bolded, italicized, etc went away and everything just squished together and looks terrible. When I unchecked the HTML box, the pic went away and everything else stayed all jumbled together. Is there anyway to add a pic and not have all my hard work fixing text types, going the heck????? Fu
  15. I am a person who loves to try new things and I think this is a great idea. I don't know if the "NUMBERS" people will feel the same, but since I participate in this sport only to compete against myself and what I can do... I am game for anything. I already love the idea of the "discovered' choice on the TB's. Have a bunch of other caching and site ideas, though some far fetched, but sometimes ya gotta think outside the box. I prefer NOT to post them as bunnies are already constantly dodging bullets.
  16. In that case, this already exists. I know several people that are travel bugs. They show up at events wearing dogtags. You write down the TB code and "discover" that person at the event. I went a little further that the Dog Tag around my neck. I have a replica tattood on my ankle with the tracking number. I had to.. I lose stuff to easily LOL I usually forget it's even there, til someone mentions it.
  17. I hear ya loud and clear. I would not have finished todays cave cache. I have a bad leg - no a wooden leg AAARRRRGGHHHH! (cough cough). This cache had me climbing up and over a rock ledge. But there's a $10 coin on the line. Oh yeah - not to menction my upcoming 374 mile round trip for an event to for my 16th piece. (well I hope to grab 30+ other caches over the two day trip). If I don't solve the puzzle - oh well - this has been a fun hunt. Call me Grog! I got ya beat... my round trip for an event will be 608 miles and I gotta do it THAT day, cause I gotta work the next. Who on earth puts an event on a Tuesday evening??!! LOL
  18. Boy.. this is getting too close. I still need an event, have everything else. Looks like a drive to East Central Iowa (5+ hrs) from North East Wisconsin is a must. This one will be tough. It's on a Tuesday evening from 7-8p and I gotta be back for work at 7am Wed. Am I NUTZ or what??!!! Otherwise.. got the 1st phrase and the sides figured out. Can I REALLY figure out the final??
  19. Here is a comparison chart to help decide what it is that you might want in a GPS. It'a kinda how I narrowed things down, but not where I ended up buying it from. I did a search from there to find the lowest prices. http://www.thegpsstore.net/compchart.htm
  20. My understanding is that in these civilian GPS units, the conversion using the satelite information can only be figured within feet/meters, with up to as much as a 100 meter varience. That is what you see displayed on the GPS in one form or another. My Magellan SporTrack Pro seems to get me within 8 ft of any cache and sometimes closer, with no interference of trees and clouds, etc. I have one screen that actually says how far away I am and another that is a compass with a distance reading, but man does that thing swing at times. The technology in these units is not as advanced and sophisticated as that of the armed forces, which my understanding, again, can darn near pin-point an object. Of course, the more satelite pickup the more accurate. I went out one cloudy/rainy day and could only get one or two to pick up. Still got to my cache, though I was a distance from what it was reading. Not sure if this was any help to you.. but a little at least.
  21. I use the Magellan SporTrack Pro. It's been a great tool for me. I opted not to get the map feature, since it was something I felt I wouldn't need, but to each his own on that one. Been very happy with this brand. The price you quoted sounds great too. I paid a bit more for mine, but I was an impulse buyer after finally deciding which one I wanted and pounced on it, though I did get a $30 rebate. Happy Caching!!
  22. What I have found, with my Magellan SporTrack Pro, is that I don't go by the # of feet away I am, but actually look at the coords. On numerous occasions, the distance is off by a fair amount but the actual coords are right on. Of course, that depends on the variables, like cloud cover, foliage cover, length of averaging of the signal at the time & point when the person placing the cache actually placed it as well as when I'm out there looking for the cache. Clear days seem to have better results than heavily clouded, but then again, I prefer to Cache in the rain I, too, will shut the GPS down when in range and just do some detective work. Good Luck & Happy Caching!!
