  1. Why not? I have seen many times where new caches have trackables or coins for the FTF. If the trackable is activated, how could it go missing? Nobody should find the cache until the new cache gets published... right?
  2. So I just submitted my first cache to own. I put two trackable in it and I am curious on how to add the two trackables to the inventory. Can someone let me what the procedure of this is? Do I need to wait until it gets published?
  3. I'm curious about the best practices for averaging a waypoint in poor conditions such as heavy tree cover. I was considering using the average waypoint function and walking back and forth on the trail ±10 feet at a consistent rate during the averaging. I was hoping this would give me better satellite coverage through the trees. I still will do the test like everyone has described. What does everyone think about this idea?
  4. I think I like that stat the best too. You better watch out... I'm catching up to you. I think I'll crack 700 miles this weekend for sure I also like the goal of the one cache per day for a year. I think I'll start with one cache per day for a month in November. It's not as hard up here in Oregon. I'll just do some urban ones during the rainy days.
  5. Just saw that my geocaching.com profile was set to Greenwich Time ... Changed it to PST and we'll see if it makes the correction... Thanks for helping me find out the obvious
  6. So, I might play around with geocaching.com with this then.
  7. I guessed that was the default, but it screws things up when I upload my log sheet and the day is different. It's not a big deal, but I wanted to change it if possible. If it's not possible, then I guess I'll just deal with it.
  8. So my Garmin Oregon is not logging the correct time for my finds. My time shows the correct time on my but does not record the finds on the log the same. For instance, I just logged a DNF at 7:22 PM Pacific Standard Time on Oct 21, 2010 and this is the line in the "geocache_visits.txt": GC233XV,2010-10-22T02:22Z,Didn't find it,"TEST" Can someone help me out?
  9. I vote it was perfect. I would not have taken offense to it if it would have came to me - just a little upset with myself that I dropped the ball enough for someone to call me out.
  10. Nude Cacher ruined it for us all. I think he would want to live somewhere warmer than Washington... shrinkage....
  11. After reading these stories, I know I really should have waited to make my 100 more memorable... maybe I'll just have to do that for 250 or something.
  12. I hit my #100 today - it was probably one of the easiest of the 100. I wish my 99th would have been my 100. It was much more memorable. Pretty proud that it took me only 59 days...
  13. On our way back down to Portland we extended our drive by finding some geocaches every 20-30 minutes along or drive down I-5. It was an excellent way to break up the trip when you have some extra time. It is very nice to be able to the pocket query along route option because we stopped at a lot more spots than we had anticipated. Here are some of our favorite spots along the way: The 509 bridge in Tacoma: FULL SIZED LINK A park looking over Olympia: FULL SIZED LINK An awesome TB Hotel: We had a great Sunday traveling home and geocaching along the way. I just wanted to share my experience.
  14. 1 Long deep meaningful log is worth more than 200 TFTC's to me. Great point too. I also will now be more considerate on my logs for good caches.
  15. Great point. Thanks everyone for the responses... except SwineFlew I like two types of caches so far. Memorable ones have been in Portland's Forest Park because it requires a hike to get to find them and then also clever natural camo ones in the city. The park ones are good because it makes it easy to hid medium sized caches which will be fun to see what all people trade - although maintaining it will be harder because I can't just stop by every so often on my way home from work.
  16. Given that I am about to hide my first cache, I wanted to know what everyone thought was the best type of cache to be the CO of. Is it more fun to hide a hard micro cache in a custom container to hear people's comments on, or it better to have one that people can leave trackables in?
  17. I just found the GSAK 101 documents on their website... so I'm reading up.
  18. THANKS! Good to know your opinion about Mapsource. This sounds exactly like something I would like to know how to do. If you can explain it, I could put together a "How-To" with screenshot and what not for others in the future.
  19. That's so true. I just stare at my GPS like I'm surfing the web or something. But when I'm off looking in a bush it's kinda hard. Maybe I should get a fake city worker outfit or something like Chris Brown doing community service...
  20. So far I have been opening my pocket query GPX files in Mapsource and then sending them to my GPS from Mapsource. Because I have a Garmin 450, I have not run into any problems with space on my GPS yet. I am worried though however, when the time comes it is going to be hard to determine which ones to delete manually since the file structure of the uploads just stay "Imported [Date]" or something like that. If I drag and drop the GPS files manually I can name them accordingly so when I delete them I know what pocket query area I am deleting. Let's say for instance I load up 500 for a weekend at the beach, it would be nice to identify these when it comes time to do some house cleaning. I am not familiar with other software such as EasyGPS, so I guess I am looking for some guidance. Will figuring out another piece of software (and buying) really help me out? Or should I just fight that battle when the time comes? Thanks for the advice.
  21. I jumped head first into geocaching with the Oregon 450 when REI had it on sale. It was over my budget, but I LOVE the paperless geocaching and the touch screen. It is so nice to be able to load it up with 1000's of caches and not have to manage which ones you have loaded. The digital compass is really nice too when you get close and are not moving much (doesn't rely on movement to determine direction of cache). I have relied on free maps and am doing fine. I'm glad I didn't spend the extra $100 to buy the T-version with maps preloaded. I did have to research a bit to find good maps, but it is all working well now.
  22. Another satisfied customer! Donated, small, but still a donation.
  23. I got Garmin Topo 24K and NWTrails loaded on my microSD card on my Oregon 450 last night and will be testing the trails tomorrow.
  24. I got my refund too. I was in and out in 5 minutes.
