  1. I do think if you find the thread, it might be sensible to read previous posts in the thread to see if your problem has already been solved.
  2. I have no particular need for them.
  3. How long had the caches you archived been there? The 60 to 90 days is the expected minimum life of a cache. There may be a waiting time for the owner to replace a cache in the same place where he archived a very recently placed cache to prevent what are essentially a series of temporary caches. I expect someone else could place one there immediately.
  4. The way I do it, is to create a query centered around where I am staying. I play with the criteria so it returns less than a thousand caches. I search the result by favorite points. You can also use caches along the route in a similar way or use the new search to set a minimum number of favorite points.
  5. On your profile page use the link on the right side of your profile to search for the nearest caches you haven't found. Click on the last found date. This will show most recently found first. Click on the header again to reverse the order.
  6. The advantage of having the map locked to the results of the search is that you can explore your search results without accidentally including caches that don't meet your criteria. To get an unrestricted map just open a cache and scan the map you open from there.
  7. You can do it from the link on the right side of your profile to search for caches closest to home or from the search for nearby caches on any cache page.
  8. The directions on how to find events by state using the new search are posted in multiple threads including one posted by a lackey. I also think it is in the FAQs linked in the release notes. To find upcoming events in a state leave the search box on the first page blank. That page resolves whatever you enter into a set of coordinates and centers a search there. On the second page clear all cache types, except for events. Then start to type your state into the box and select United States Connecticut. Depending on where you live though you may find it more satisfactory to use a saved pq that you preview since you might also be interested in events in RI. MA, or NY.
  9. I have no idea what could be causing this. I tried multiple cache pages and logging in as a basic member and it was always there. Have you looked at other cache pages? Maybe there is something weird about that one.
  10. What gpx file are you trying to load it into? More information would help people figure out what is going on.
  11. It appears to be working for me. What is happening when you try?
  12. If you are a gsak user I would check and see if there is a way to populate your database directly from the api. I would check their forum.
  13. A couple of more suggestions- be sure and update your database close to when you leave to get recent information on archived and disabled caches. If you use gsak, this can be done by refreshing geocaches using the api I believe. Also if you haven't thought of it you might want to contact some local cachers. The Canada section of this forum seems pretty dead but there is a Facebook page if you do that https://www.facebook.com/pages/British-Columbia-Geocaching-Association/91747292945
  14. What page are you accessing on geocaching.com? It works as it always has for me on my iPad with safari and on my windows 7computer running Firefox
  15. May I offer advice on how I would prepare for a caching trip If I was visiting a new area. First I would make a list of the kinds of caches I like to find most. These include virtual caches, oldest caches, geo trails. I would bookmark these. Then I would figure out where I was going to be. Would I be mostly in one place. Would I be traveling to specific places? Then I would run pocket queries for a reasonable distance around those points. Also I would limit these queries to the kinds of caches I like to find most. I would spend time choosing the caches that appealed to me and add them to my bookmark. I would use caches along the routes I expected to travel. I would also plan to access free wifi to check for new caches or to account for a change of plans. I know everyone doesn't like to plan but I think planning is part of the fun and more productive than downloading every cache in a providence.
  16. I'm sorry but the new search system actually provided some new functions I find helpful and didn't remove any functions I used. I know that is not true of everyone since I realize that everyone approaches things differently but . I think it's important to remember that far fewer people bother to compliment than to complain. I would also suggest that it would be more productive to try to learn how to use the new features or alternate ways to use the site asking specific questions or providing constructive criticism is more productive than to say you hate it. That really doesn't provide much useful information to the developers.
  17. If she is using a device that allows field notes she could upload field notes and not actually log the caches until things have settled down.
  18. What the search is doing I believe is searching all the caches in the region. When you change the criteria, you are shown the caches that fit the new criteria. That is why when I create a pq around the motel and I want to choose the ones with the most favorite points I limit the area to one that includes less tha than 1000 caches.
  19. The way I have always done it is to go to their public profile. There is a find a user link on the right side of your profile page.
  20. If you need to search the United States and Germany as a whole, you can do it using pocket queries. It takes a bit to set it up but it only needs to be done once. I'm hoping they will add the new search options to the pocket query choices soon.
  21. Almost no one bothers to visit a web site and say I love the changes you made. I like the new advanced search. It has placed no limitations on the way I searched in the past and allowed me to search in new ways. I also like the new layout.
  22. I would suggest that it might be easier to search your found caches on your profile page or if you use gsak or some other data bas program download your "my finds" pocket query. That includes your logs.
  23. Finding archived geocachers has always been discouraged. They haven't been shown on the map for years. The primary purpose of the advanced search is to find details of caches you can go and hunt. Archived caches are not in play. They were archived for a reason. You can find them if you know the hider or the gc number but the general attitude of Ground speak is that it shouldn't be easy.
  24. You can request a my finds query from the pocket query page once every three days. This can be sliced and diced in gsak or another data base program. They are also searchable via projectgc or you can access all your finds from your profile page as mentioned above.
  25. +me and countless others !!! +me too!!! Seriously, does Groundspeak (or whoever the shadowy characters are behind the scenes) even acknowledge that this is a problem? Have they responded at all to the complaints? I haven't seen anything but stone cold silence....no change to make the search results more readable, no change to the ridiculous 30 mile limit, not even a link on the search page to a list of instructions on how to use the darn thing, nothing! At the very least, they could simply leave a link up to the old search. Have you read actually read the release notes? Included in them is a link to the FAQ on the new advanced search? They answer most of your questions and provide a link to the old search. In addition there are many ways to search the site. I rarely used the old advanced search for anything because I found other options easier to use. My home page for the site is my profile page. This provides a link to my nearest unfound caches and my saved pocket queries that show me the 1000 oldest caches, all virtual caches in the United States, etc. It also allows me to search for other cachers. The new search page allows me new functionality which I appreciate.
