  1. Not sure if this is correct site for this but, I am trying to locate caching groups in Ohio. I am working with the Fayette County Historical Society and their geocache history trail . (13 caches). We would like to get the word out to caching groups throughout Ohio. In checking these sites, I did notice that The Brigadier has visited at least one of our caches. I wasn’t able to locate any groups listed herein. Was wondering if you might have something available? Thanks in advance.
  2. We live in a rural area. For Father's Day my daughters went out and hid my presents around our farm and neighboring area. After a big lunch of smoked ribs I was given a Father's Day card. After reading the card I noticed that they had written down a series of grid coordinates, 9 sets actually. They said that if I wanted my Father's Day gifts, I'd have to find them. Long story short, we all piled into the Jeep and enjoyed a ride around the neighborhood and out across the farm. 1st time I had actually manually input coords. into the Garmin 60CSx. Was a great way to end up the week-end. Hiram392
  3. Same problem here. Geocoin moved from Ohio to Hawaii, still only show a trip of 61 miles not the 4,991 miles travelled.
  4. Thanks for advice, everyone. I have marked coin as missing, email a couple of folks that logged in after it was placed and hopefully it will show up! In all reality...it's most probably gone. dadgum muggles!
  5. Thanks for the input. I'll give it a try. I have requested that cache owner remove the item from the inventory. Hiram392
  6. Yep, I know it will be next to impossible...but I'm going to shout out any way. I am trying to locate a missing Masonic geocoin. Last logged on 7/21 at GC1NKQF - Trading Post "West Chester". Received a note on 9/4 that the coin was not at the site. Hopefully, someone will see this and remember that they have it. It only traveled about 100 miles from initial location. My gut feeling though, is that it was muggled! and I will never see or hear from it again. Thanks in advance, Hiram392
  7. It is only going to get worse. The Ohio Dept. of Nat. Resources has stopped trash pick up in up to 30 of their parks. This is a part of the cost cutting that has been imposed in the state. Here is a segment from a Dayton Daily News article, about this. As the state struggles with a multi-billion dollar budget crisis, there’s no money to spare these days in ODNR’s budget for trash pick-up or the convenience of waste cans — at least not in the areas of the parks designated “day-use.” That means just about anywhere outside the confines of paid campgrounds, where there is still trash pick-up. The thinking is that trash service should be included in the cost patrons shell out in campground rental fees. This haul-as-you-go policy went into effect Memorial Day at Caesar Creek and Cowan Lake. So the next time you’re at the parks and seek that familiar place to discard your abundant fast-food waste, you’ll find official signage explaining the new policy. What you won’t find is a garbage can.
  8. We here in the Washington Court House, Ohio area have a history teacher, Mr. Paul La Rue, and his students, that have received national attention for their history/cemetery project at the Washington Cemetery. Also, there is a cache located in this cemetery!
  9. I have no problem geocaching in a cemetery. Others have stated that it is a place of respect and a memorial to those that have gone before. Yes, that is true. However, cemeteries can also be places to learn of our past and meet those that have helped to shape our country. Geocachers, on the whole are respectful of the locations found in cemeteries. I am aware that there are several large, older cemeteries here in Ohio that stage events throughout the year. For example, Green Lawn Cemetery, in Columbus just held events honoring Civil War members, WWII members, and have a Birder's Breakfast scheduled for July. I know that other cemeteries that offer tours of famous local graves or flower and tree walks. it is, in the end, up to the individual cacher but, if the cache is placed in an out of the way location and the hunters are mindful of where they are, I have no problem with cemetery caches.

  11. Hiram392 - New Holland Lodge No. 392, New Holland, Ohio I am new to geocaching. Have only located 3 sites thus far. However, I was FTF on one of them. I saw blurb about the MGS meeting late last year. Do you know if they have any geocoins that might be purchased? How much? Who to contact, etc.? Also, I have charted all Masonic Lodges in Ohio.( www.poi-factory.com/node/13536) This was current as of early 2008. I have not gone back and updated with consolidations etc. since Grand Lodge last year. It is still pretty current. Hiram392 jgarringer3409@scpwildblue.com
