  1. Do you follow your own advice and check on YOUR caches that don't get visited very often? Oh. never mind.
  2. I love Oyster Dressing, and make it every year in November. I also like to crunch down raw Appalatchicola Bay oysters on the half shell with just a tiny dab of hot sauce while consuming vast quantities of beer. But did you ever wonder about the first cave man who wandered down to the shore and was so hungry he scraped an oyster off a rock and ate it? How hungry do you have to be to do that? What made him think that was even a good idea? Did he know whether the month had an "R" in it? Cavemen were the first Geocachers, but they didn't use little yellow etrexes...They left little bags of smoked oysters in caches.
  3. That is the worst idea I've heard on these forums.
  4. tHAT'S ANOTHER GOOD THING ABOUT CACHING IN THE COLD fLORIDA WINTERS--YOU WEAR LONG PANTS AND THAT HELPS PROTECT YOU AGAINST BUGS, SCRAPES AND THORNS
  5. HAPPY GEOCACHER VETERANS DAY! GOD BLESS OUR GEOCACHINGTROOPS!
  6. Sounds like fun! Is it a contest for the best Chili too? Earthdog, I get the feeling you are one of "many" personalities! BTW, I'm looking for a geocaching buddy. The Pinellas Geocachers tend to go a bit too far south for my liking. Anyone? i GUESS WE COULD HAVE A CONTEST, IF THERE WAS ANUFF interest. We are available for caching adventure trips, 24-7, 7 days a week ....
  7. This is the time of year to do those types of caches: Not so hot, less mosquitoes, bigfoots in hibernation...
  8. There is some controversy on this subject, with even experienced cachers and reviewers getting it wrong, totally wrong, wrong, wrong. "Florida Style" does NOT mean on the ground under dead fronds, or any other type of forest stickoflage... FLORIDA STYLE = IN THE BOOTJACK OF A PALM TREE
  9. Time to hide your first geocache. May I suggest a film can six feet up in a Palm tree and call it a typical Florida Style Hide?
  10. GEOCACHERS SONG It's been a long road, getting from there to here. It's been a long time, but my time is finally near. And I will see my dream come alive at last. I will touch the sky. And they're not gonna hold me down no more, no they're not gonna change my mind. Cause I've got faith of the heart. I'm going where my heart will take me. I've got faith to believe. I can do anything. I've got strength of the soul. And no one's gonna bend or break me. I can reach any star. I've got faith. I've got faith, faith of the heart.
  11. QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "Never mess with a geocacher--they know all the best places to hide a body." ph34r.gif
  12. Maybe Best Buy or one of them will have bargains on hand-helds for Xmas!!! That's what you need!
  13. What the heck type of GPS are you using????????????? You can get a little yellow Etrex for under a hundred bucks...
  14. Not really. A Jury decides the FACTS in a case. The Judge instructs the jury on the LAW in effect in the jurisdiction. For Example, the instructions to the jury might go along these lines: "If you find that the defendant did in fact remove 15 bricks from the wall, and did so with malicious intent, you must return a verdict of guilty." Sorry I see now this was covered already. Edit button not working for me.

  16. Yes, you're right--we may be alike in that way. I tend to over-react and come out slashing with sarcasm and or insulting language when I perceive a post is way off mark and/or mean spirited. Cordiality it is then!!
  17. I didn't mean to imply your GPS was innacurate, in my previous post. By practicing with it and navigating to a known coordinate a number of times, you will get used to the interaction between yourself and the unit, and by noticing how it zeros in, be able to refine your search techniques. Do this at an open field on a cloudless day. We have found that one way to zero out at ground zero, for example, if your unit is bouncing around due to tree cover, etc. is to: Move back away about 60 feet or so and then follow your GPS RAPIDLY until you hit zero. This may take several attempts, from different directions, but has been a useful technique for us. We have found that 90% or more of caches are to be found within 10-15 feet or better... remember, if the hiders unit is at 10' accuracy (which is very good) and yours is too, that's a 20' radius of where you're at and that's a pretty good search area. The best advise is: "When searching, Think like a hider." (Where would YOU hide it?). Course that works best if you ARE a hider. Just as with all things you get better with experience!
