  1. I just got 3 email notifications from three of them 'finding' my cache...but they don't show up on the caches page.
  2. Looks like that guy had one of mine TOO. Been missing since '11. I let it go with ANOTHER at the same time, I wish at least he would have dipped it while he was caching to get some miles. The other one has 35,000+ miles on it. Looks since this one is back in circulation it has some 'cache-ing' up to do!
  3. Wheelin is what we do, luckily the Tillamook State Forest OHV area isnt going anywhere as of yet...has something to do with 'The Tillamook Burn' and land management. My wife is PR chairman of region 3 in the Pacific Four Wheel Drive Association and we are members of 'Tread Lightly!'. Her and I have been hosting The Oregon Trophy Challenge for the last few years. We have been doing poker runs out there for the last ten years or so and thought we would show our appeciation of all the hard work others have done over the years putting 'their' events together. Yes, we are getting older, it's starting to be more like work, but it's still our passion.
  4. My wifes YJ, our rubicon, and my Bronco (all pictures on trail in an OHV park).
  5. I have a Triton 400 GPSr so I need to use the Vantage Point program. I have loaded several maps into it without issue. It's version 1.52, it's an older version but it works great for me. I was active on the old Triton Forum site and would watch for bugs and such on the new releases. I use the AccuTerra map the most often...it was not free.
  6. Hi all. My wife got me a Treadlightly Geocoin and I am trying to activate it, but the website it says to go to seems to not be there? Any help appreciated, thanx. MOD, PLEASE DELETE...FOUND MY ANSWER
  7. Which map? The one on the website, or the one in the app? If you're talking about the one on the website, then the answer is no. If it's the app, then yes, your current location should be shown on the map (at least, it does in the app on my iPhone). And on my ANDROID phone. The bigger issue with using the app is the limited number of caches displayed in the initial search (20 I think). If you really want to see what is around you need to keep scrolling to the bottom of the list and choose 'More...'. On the upside, you can scroll/slide the map and select 'Search here' for caches around that area. I got a Casio commander c771, I think thats an Android?
  8. Which map? The one on the website, or the one in the app? If you're talking about the one on the website, then the answer is no. If it's the app, then yes, your current location should be shown on the map (at least, it does in the app on my iPhone). I guess I was asking about the one on the website. I do not yet have the app and was not sure what the GC app actually did different than using it on a PC. But since your reply, I think I will get the app- that feature alone would make it worth it, thanx.
  9. DOH! I needed to be logged in. Thank you for the reply. Next...Is there a way to have your location in that map? For instance, like when you are using a map for navigation could you have caches on that map?- without having to load all of them into your machine.
  10. Yep another smartphone thread. I too am new to the smartphone and app thing and am not sure how it works, my main question is; How can I view the gc.com map with all the caches in it like I do on my PC? EDIT**---sorry, I now realize this may be in the wrong area.
  11. I live fairly close to the area and am embarrassed to say I have only went after GC12. It's a mile from where the road is blocked to the cache, I hope this helps. I don't recall how long it took to walk to the cache and back, probly around an hour?
  12. I think it's asking a bit too much to ask a cache owner to go check on their cache simply because it hasn't been found in a while and you're coming to town. If there are a string of DNFs, I would say OK. But other than that, I think it's an inappropriate request. Cache owners are busy people. If you only want to search for caches that have been found recently, you can do that through GSAK or simply by reading the logs. Fair enough.
  13. What you are doing is asking a stranger to do something for you. How would you feel if I called you this afternoon and said "please go the the grocery store and buy a gallon of milk for me. My store is out and I'm going to be in your area this weekend. Leave the milk at XXXX and I will pick it up and drop off the money to reemburse you" Am I being reasonable? No. I have no right to ask you to do errands for me. If I post a NM or a note asking the CO to check their cache, IMHO I had better have good reason to believe there is a problem. A DNF means that I have already visited GZ, done a thorough search and failed to find the hide. If in addition I have reason to believe the cache is missing, its a NM with a detailed description of why I believe maintenance is necessary. NM usually means that I found the cache in some state of disrepair. Merely not finding the cache is *USUALLY* not sufficient reason to post a NM. The CO can look at a string of DNFs and determine for themselves whether a maintenance run is warranted. If you are running through an area that is geographically remote from your home coordinates, and you are unwilling or unable to do a thorough search, perhaps you should restrict your PQ to caches with the last 4 logs are finds. I'm not posting this to be mean or spliteful, you sound like you want to do the right thing. Just giving a different perspective on the impact of the tools that are available to you. If a cacher sent me an e-mail saying they were traveling from another state and was curious about one of my hides, I would have no problem checking on it- even if there hadn't been a DNF. Granted, neither are 200 miles away from me, and I drive by one of them every day...I don't see that as a terrible bother. Oh, if I was going to the store anyway- I probly would pick some milk up for you.
  14. Hypothetically speaking, what if...They where new and not sure how the system worked, were going to visit from afar and wanted to load some caches to find, saw this one that hadn't been found in awhile and just wanted the owner to check on it to make sure it was there?- maybe? could happen?
  15. Never stubled upon an active one unintentionally, but found this cache on purpose
  16. Did you label it "cash"? What a interesting story It was a nice gesture...not common these days +1 on getting a lottery ticket
  17. In a few of the bad areas that are off limits, the Forest Service has been putting cameras in the woods. They have also been posting pictures of said violators from the cameras in local movie theaters before the movie starts with "have you seen this vehicle/reward". This seems to be working pretty good.
  18. My wife and I are responsable avid 4 wheelers, put on a great event in the Tillamook State Forest with the help of the Oregon department of Forestry (that the procedes went to The CandleLighters for families children with cancer), and are members of TreadLightly!. I just had to help with the sidetrack of this thread , just because we are in a gas powered vehicle off the pavement, does not mean we are 'tearing up the landscape' . It's the stereotype thing, "You ATVers", "You 4Wheelers"...well, "Some Geocachers" do things that may give the 'other' cachers a bad name. We have designated OHV parks and trail systems that are legal to wheel, you can't just go anywhere. The state monitors them closely, if too much errosion is going to happen they will close a trail, for instance a trail may be closed in the winter months. If we see someone on the trail that is tearing up the woods, we try to inform them that we don't need more trails closed. It's not only the Forestry dept doing the policing, we police it ourselves to a point. Sorry, just venting a bit. It's just something we feel passionate about, we have been doing it together as a family for over ten years and our lives pretty much revolve around it.

    Forum Bug

Aw, you're no fun...who was it ? However I guess that may be against shop policy - nor would it help your bug to be fixed...Can you add as many as you would like now?
  20. It looks like the OP found the cache he was looking for
  21. Is there a way to find out what the trackables number is? I found a red jeep a long time ago...curious if it could be the same one.
  22. But hans415, the rules state you need to sign a log for it to count- right?
  23. Do some searching on SWAG. Dollar store stuff is popular. This hobbie wasn't meant to 'break the bank', so don't go crazy on putting expensive trade items in the cache. I most often have a sealed pocket first aid kit, some hotwheel/matchbox cars, and new AA batteries with me I can trade with.
  24. Really? I often have left NEW sealed 4 packs of AAs. I thought it was GOOD swag, I know I would grab 'em if I found them. Honestly, let me know- I will spend my money on other stuff if others feel this is a bad trade item.
