  1. Hi all, I know this probably comes up a lot, but on a personal level how long do you wait to chase a TB that hasn't left the hands of its "grabber"? The reason I ask, is this. I sent a Scout Necker on off on its travels, as a project/bit of fun for my Explorer Scout Unit. They are impatient lil peeps at times, and want to know all where it is. Some of them are tracking it on here, but I am frequently being asked about it. I am happy to let its run its course, but when do you think is a reasonable time frame to email grabbers if its prgress has not changed? On the plus side, as a little side note, my Explorer Scouts are really taken with geocaching now. It's great for me as a leader, as it gets them practicing navigation, without them really realising they are doing so. You can imagine the groans I get when I tell 14-18 y/o to get the maps out, we are off hiking and navigating. I tell them to get the maps we are going geocaching, and I get a cheer!! Thanks all, Rob
  2. On the non PM's logging a PMO cache, whats the deal with wives logging the cache, when the hubby for instance is a PM and they are not? I am a PM and my wife isn't but I am certain that as we cache together, we'll look at PMO caches as the come up in my PQ's. I see no reason to pay for two memberships, but does that mean it's unacceptable for my wife to log the PMO cache?
  3. It Happened one Night, One Flew over the cuckoo's nest, and silence of the lambs. DING, either you're as big a movie fan as me or you're googling. I'm no big movie buff, but I do a lot of Quiz nights for charities. I write them and also am the quizmaster. So that's my knowledge base grounding. Your last Q was a great one, a fav of mine for the movie round as it promotes a hell of a lot of discussion and debate! Ok, so, next Q. Lets keep to the oscars theme, How did Marlon Brando's oscar refusal backfire?
  4. It Happened one Night, One Flew over the cuckoo's nest, and silence of the lambs.
  5. You took the words right outta my mouth............I said virtually the same on FaceBook a couple of days back.......... We must be the lowest of the low having a dog and Disco Mandy Unless you have a horse box too, thus meaning you may ride, and that is a sin as well don't forget!
  6. Ok, What links East Grinstead, Boxing Day and the Duke of Bohemia (907–935) together?
  7. Ah movies, my favourite although I did have to paf (Smuggle Bug) to confirm. She is, afterall, my partner in all movie making mayhem. DrDick&Vick are correct about the St valentines Day massacre when Al capone and his men dispatched the lead. L'Amour Cache is a film by Italian director Al Capone. Oh, beaten by one minute. That'll teach me to be multi tasking (drinking tea and texting). First time I have played this, I assume I have to wait for the confirmation of my answer in the form of a ding? haha! I should admit that it was a lucky stumble that got me the answer :-s I have never seen the film!
  8. Alessandro Capone was director, so all I can come up with is the link between surnames Capone. Alphonse Capone being behind the ST Valentines Massacre
  9. Is there a way of breaking the map down into custom tiles within mapsource rather than the perset ones? I only have 8mb of memory and occasionally find that the areas i want span two tiles but the two tiles exceed my memory capacity on the gps. I have tried using gpsmapedit i think its called, but it runs really clunky on my machine and crashes when I try to export a custome area.
  10. I wasn't aware of it not automatically centering on home upon startup, so thanks for that info. That could well be the issue. I have to say, i only downloaded it last night, but what a cracking bit of kit. the ability to filter and print multiple cache info on a page is wonderful. I'm sure I have only touched the surface at the moment, but its great. it gets a 10/10 from me.
  11. I bet those with a disco and a dog must really get a lot of flack!! lol
  12. Yikes, some people can be picky on here. Sorry if people didn'y like the term work around. Aternative fix may appease those who have an issue with the term. Thanks again Redsox_mark for your help earlier, and also defending my terminology! Odd how people pick up on little things and get funny about them in this place!
  13. Thanks peeps, I'll check the format type, that may be the operator error thats causing it! Whats wrong with the term work around? The "work around" was to use the home waypoint I uploaded and set it as the center point. It was the work around not being able to get the home location to work!
  14. as mentioned, its set to wgs84. I also tried my home co-ords set on geocaching.com and got the same result. WOrked around with the center point now though.
  15. East & West were correct, and I copied and pasted the co-ords straight from the waypoint. I have now used redsox_mark's work around. Which has worked! Cheers!
  16. Help! I have just downloaded GSAK, but when I set my home location, the distances are all wrong. I even created a waypoint on my garmin (checked it was set to use wgs84) and uploaded it as a waypoint into GSAK. I then added the co-ords of that waypoint in GSAK as my home location, and that waypoint is coming up as 24.76 miles away! Caches I know are nearby are also showing incorrect distances away. Help!! Cheers peeps, Rob
  17. Just read this and done the re-calc miles. Thanks for the tip. Would it not make more sense for this to be done automatically when the bug gets logged as dropped off?
  18. I have just gone premium, and set up my first PQ. I have also - (even though I though FTF was not my thing when I started this game) set up notifications for local newly published caches. I feel, that although my finds are not high yet, I am now beginning to leave noob status behind! That and the fact that in the near future I intend to get me a 60csx! Its and addictive slippery slope this sport!
  19. I bought the official travel bug via UKgeocachers and got an instant reply. I assumed it was an automated system.
  20. Have you thought about the new forest? There are plenty of campsites there, and its a wonderful area. Plenty for kids too. The forestry commision campsites are gopod plus there are lots of private ones. Let me know if you need specific site suggestions.
  21. The Best micro I have found was in a Mill mircro series in my area by Flatcoat Walker. It was a 35mm film canister that was then inside a specimien pot that was only slightly larger than the cannister. The specimien pot was covered in black ducktape for camo. It worked a treat, still a micro, but well commoed and double skinned for protection.
  22. My thoughts on your response to the whole Geocaching/Opencaching/whoeverelsecaching, the way I see it is it's kinda like rugby. You have Rugby Leage & Rugby Union. Very different yet similar sports. I bet if you asked any player what sport they play, your answer would be Rugby and that they are rugby players. Geocaching draws similar parallels in that there are other set-ups playing the same sport with small differences/governing bodies.
  23. Do you have any info/links about this moote? Looks like could be interesting reading. EDIT: quoted wrong part! I meant info on OS realeasing data
